This game SHALL NOT start by a random vote! Instead of that, I propose that we do... a mass claim. As last game scum, I was very scared of such a strategy because the simple fact of having a sheriff or two masons makes a town block that can overwhelm the Mafia very easily. This has been done in the last hours of the previous game, and "it has been a real mindfuck", as said ilovepickles.

Before starting claiming roles, I'd like to know your position about this strategy. I have to go now, and I expect something when I'll get back ;)

I’m against it at this point. I’ve never played a set up like this, but an early mass claim would allow scum to blend in from the beginning of the game. Whereas at the end of the game you can make a better assessment based on their behavior throughout the game. Also in a one lynch game you have to get it 100% right in a Cc.

The more info you give scum early in the game the more of a disadvantage you put us in. Scum already knows that we’re town, giving them our roles this early would make us more easily manipulated.

Only people who should claim are host confirmable roles like mayor (if there is one) or potentially masons if there are masons (if they’re allowed) so they can use their chat to confirm.. but again scum could fake claim masons too.

Basically the whole point of this game is to hone traditional scum hunting tactics. So you’re going to have to look at every post everyone makes and ask your self the sole important question.

“If this person is scum, what would be their motivation to say what they’re saying?”

Then apply the same thing to town “what would be town motivated reasons for saying what they’re saying.

Hi my name is PTB.

I started playing Mafia on the SC2 mod when it first came out or shortly after. I belonged to another community called Island Defense. Eventually I made my way back to the mod. Then, i was obsessed with keeping the game clean and fun. Because of my rigorous reports, and SC2Mafia staff member offered me the chance to apply for Keeper, I did, and was instantly hired in April 2016. I worked until the end of June essentially processing hundreds (close to a thousand?) of reports. I had some disagreements on what policy enforcement was, so I quit staff, was lured back, and quit a few weeks later due to other situations that don't matter here.

However, during this time SJ (Superjack) hosted a 6 person S-FM called Beginners. This was my and Mesk's first game. During my first game I wanted to impress everyone, and I thought because I was really good in the mod, that I had the game on lock. Ultimately some of my feelings and instincts were correct, but I did everything in my power to screw any of that up. I led to mislynches before correctly pointing out that another player was whiteknighting or buddying me in my LW, which led to his correct lynch. Unfortunately in that same LW, I told people to trust his scum partner who I trusted for some reason, which led to mesk lynching an AFK who should have been replaced from the gate (RIP PANDA whereever you be).

Town lost that game, and Mesk told me i should wear a helmet because I was so retarded. I hunkered down, and "trusted my gut" more and played more FM's (not as much as I could or should) and really learned how to read people and make sense of alignments. etc.. I take some time off between games that I play because I invest all of myself into every game I play. This can be taxing and thus i need extending breaks at times.

I also got into PARASITE on SC2 Mod and don't really play that anymore. FM Mafia is where it's at for me for now.

As it s stands rn I have an 85% win-rate overrall, a 100% win-rate as scum (2 games LUL) and an 81% win-rate as Town. A 33.3% win-rate as TPR.

I am an open book, would you like to know more?

If he's town, he was speaking generally, if he is scum, and you piece together OTHER information that is scummy, it helps you to see it as a slip, and it helps confirm other pieces of information. It is not to say THIS MEANS HE'S 100% SCUM!! I am saying, if he is scum,
this is an example of him slipping because he's referring to his team losing and NOT the town. It's vague information. These are things you have to consider with putting everything together. Also, since I like teaching opportunities. Stating something that could be a slip, and pointing that out,
is a great way to reaction test the person you're claiming may have slipped. You then examine how they reacted and see if it hits any of the scum markers,
or if it hits any of the key town markers, and then you make a determination. What hurts that process is when you have a keenly 3rd party entity trying to muck up all investigations by constantly making me explain everything. Just like in the last game, you make these investigative tools useless in a sense. But like I said,
it's my goal to teach people this game. So here I am teaching. MM sometimes it's better to sit back and see where the questions other people pose, or assessments other people make, and make determinations later. All I've seen so far is you become overly defensive of blink. This is giving me pause about you.

How have you created successful Day 1's in the past?

I assume this is directed at me.

Typically for me. What I like to utilize is different types of reaction testing.

For example. You know SCVmuderer? Well, I got in a very vicious round of back and forth with him, as a means to put his back up against a wall and put myself in the dominant position. I did this in two fold reasons. 1. I wanted to see where he would buckle and where he would fight back. 2. I wanted him to become a viable easy lynch target to the rest of the town to see who would jump on his train asap. I.e. Low hanging fruit. (scum will utilize low hanging fruit to get easy ML's). This was successful a tiny bit because it got him to shut down, (he was scum). And it allowed me to focus on a second thing I utilize from time to time.

It's a list of 6ish questions. It's called an RQS or RQP (Random Question Survey, or Random Question Phase) in which I ask certain things to gauge different things. Scv actually used it in the last instant mafia game. A couple of the questions are designed to create a psychological break within you. For example the question: "What role/faction do you like to play in mafia?" Some people will answer in a way that attempts to get the reader to see them as town. For example, Nawa that game answered something like "town ofc" which really piqued my interest. He said "ofc" meaning OF COURSE I love being town, because I am town, and you should only read me as town. This little tidbit allowed me to hone in on him, and compare that whole "towny" thing to other aspects of his day one play, which allowed me to successfully lead a lynch on him, and he was SK.

Also, might I add, we had two trains that day, 1 on sk and 1 on a mafia scum member.

For me and really for everyone, day 1 is really a good day to see people's personalities. I typically find those who push a lot on day 1 and are super active in asking questions, leading discussion, and pointing out things, typically are town. Those who try to lurk, or only be active for short periods of time, often times turn out to be scum. Now, unfortunately this site has a lurker problem with a lot of the players, and that alignment split with lurkers tends to be off as of late because we have people who join games and are town and just never participate.
