View Full Version : Scum tips to avoid getting fried

1. As soon as day breaks start pretending you're a townie. Pretend so hard that you fool yourself. Be mindful of the role you're trying to portray, and then think about how you would act were you that role. Eg. If you were an Investigator how would you act so that people would never suspect you were an investigator and attempt to kill you. That is how you should act. Don't over-play it though. You don't need to convince anybody you're a townie, you just are one, right?
2. In mafia chat we are a team. In day chat we are just other members of the town, we are not a team. Don't think of us as a team. Don't play like we're a team. If you feel there's evidence on the board or scum tells lying around then point them out EVEN IF THEY ACCUSE YOUR TEAM-MATES. If you can see a scum tell, chances are somebody else can too. If you can see blatant holes in any of our reasoning then point them out too. The town doesn't expect one mafia team to be arguing amongst itself in day chat.
3. If you find yourself in a sticky situation and you don't know how to reply, ask for help in the dedicated mafia chat and we can work together to indemnify you.

"Pretend so hard that you fool yourself." :)
I'm not sure how well I'll do at this. I'm used to playing town, but get seen as scummy trying to play town lol...

Don't pretend to be town during the day - just forget that you are mafia. That's how I play it in SC2 maf - I just forget my role and pick a new town one, and then play normally. Self-deception is surprisingly important in this game.

Claiming my town inves pairing is pretty hard (enchantress).
Should I claim it anyway or just convince the inves theres no need to inves me...
Ofc I'll only claim if I'm in a situation, but...

I would probably just claim citizen until confronted. As long as you're not aggressive in the day chat the investigators will probably waste their time on other people that are more suspicious.

The thing is, people think I lurk 24/7.
It's not that I don't say anything. I just can't react as fast as some people and what I want to say gets said before I get a chance. And then I don't want to be redundant.
Waaagh, you've played 3 games with me already.
Do you think I should kick it up a notch and talk more or stay where I am?

This is not sc2 mafia. This is forum mafia and it is a whole different ball game.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. The whole purpose behind this is just to be prepared for the situation where you're jailed or on the receiving end of a public demand for a role claim. If you've played with the role you're going to claim in mind until that point, then you'll find it easier to persuade the forum. There is no need to claim prematurely though.

Well, it's hard to say since the other games weren't anonymous, so people I think we're more naturally inclined to trust you. I was actually thinking that perhaps one way to overcome the stigma of your name is to talk how you normally do so people can go "Oh, that's Sumi, let's not kill her night one". I'm not saying day one go "I AM SUMI PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE", but I don't know, maybe throw in some "^^" here and there.
In terms of your activity I think your generally active enough, but if you see some one say something you want to say, you can always quote it and then kind of add a "I totally agree with this person, for the following reasons:" that way you make your opinion on a given person or strategy known to everyone instead of just silently going "I totally agree with that guy".

Lol I didn't know I had a distinct way of talking, other than threatening people with chainsaws.
Should I say something along the lines of "If you target me just so you can say "Oh my God! They killed Kenny!" I swear I will chunk a chainsaw at you."? :D It might give the impression that I'm not a smart player to make my identity so painfully obvious and thus make them think I'm not capable of staying under the radar as scum. Which, might garner some sympathy from them and not let them target a newb player night 2? And they might not read me as carefully if they think I'm not capable of much. It just might work. Better they know I'm Sumi than mistake me for someone who has enemies, like Auckmid or Dimwit or someone like that. But then again, maybe they'll think I'm someone else impersonating as me... -caught in self WIFOM- HRMMMM.
Anyway, thanks for the advice. :)

Lol, yeah, I was actually just thinking about that. If they think you're impersonating yourself in order to stay under the radar that might have the exact opposite effect. Argh!
Maybe you should just say something in the day chat like "Alright everyone, get any "Oh my god, they killed Kenny!" jokes out of the way now so people won't feel the need to kill me tonight".

Alright. I'll say something along those lines then.
I'll still talk the way I usually do though, without anything too obvious. So they'll eventually figure out I'm Sumi because it truly is hard to act like a certain person consistently and subtly. And if someone can do that, well, kudos to them lol.

You're right, Ike. I'm wrong about everything, totally inexperienced with everything (even though you don't know who I am), and deserve to have everything I say disagreed with.
My bad.

I simply want you to realise that what works in SC2 mafia will likely not hold true for forum mafia. As you keep mentioning Sc2 in every second post I am not sure you realise this.
The only reason I don't know who you are is because you refuse to tell us. As such I have no idea how great or little experience you have and am going to assume you're new, as many of the players in the list are.
Try not to take things personally. We're a team and I want us to play like one. But this is not pre-school where everybody gets told they did awesome. We're going to debate and discuss strategy and the best one (whoever suggests it) is what we're going to put into practice.

And apparently, your definition of "teamwork" is calling your subordinates preschoolers. Thanks for that.

Not what I said.
I only said it because I've seen mafia teams fall apart before because there was a lack of leadership and everybody was free to do their own non-coordinated thing. In retrospect that was probably still better than a mafia civil war.
I do not think you are a preschooler. Your spelling and grammar is excellent.

Are excellent. Using "spelling and grammar" means that the object of that sentence should be treated as plural.
