The Shinra Corporation is draining the planet of it's life-force. Cloud Strife, a cold-hearted mercenary with a history connected to the Shinra Corporation's elite army, SOLDIER, finds himself working for a rebel band of eco-warriors who are set on bringing the Corporation down. His immediate past unknown to him, Cloud accepts a mission from the group, AVALANCHE, unaware that it will begin him on a journey of self-discovery which will change not only his life, but the lives of every soul on the planet.

It is pretty late for me and I am preoccupied, so I will just say that I skimmed the setup and noted that we have 2 KPN, a Mayor and scum roles that can fuck with Investigations/ flips. With that in mind, I think we should consider the D1 lynch more carefully than we often do in most games. No CFDing, is what I'm getting at.

I think Final Fantasy VII Is one of the better Final Fantasies... I can't wait for the remake!

But Final Fantasy IX Is by far the superior Title though.

Zidane > Cloud Strife. Cloud Strife is too much of an emo for my tastes.

But I will actually comment on the game's setup spec for reals though, I just had to get that out of the way.

The fact Reno can roleblock is sorta funny... I just have to add that. Rude is the master lookout. Reno/Rude for lyfe, really the only Shinra Employee's I actually liked, and Elena too I guess?
So we have 3 possible town power roles, and the rest of us Employee's of Shinra. Eww. Sephiroth is as badass as ever, and the fact he can assassinate means Rufus should be weary about his reveal. I think we should treat Sephiroth as a judge for now, until he uses his assassination on someone else. Rufus should only reveal if he's being pushed too hard.

Cloud Strife is a Amnesiac godfather thing... Sounds sorta weird? Cloud Strife can steal a role... Hmm. I don't see how that makes sense via the game. Tifa's role mechanics sort of fit Tifa's personality I guess? Barret as a consigliere, haha. Vincent as an Agent, So hawt! Yuffie's ability feels ninja'ish... so I like that.

Overall it looks like Cloud Strife's party has some powerful role mechanics... We should be wary about TPR reveals, of course.

If anyone wants an example of why we can't afford to mess around, just look at how quickly town lost majority in Flashpoint Revisited. And that setup had 5 TPRs, 3 of which were confirmed.

Sephiroth is a very buffed Serial Killer (immune to RB, detection, and night kill) with a one time daykill. Not sure why you characterized him as a Judge? His assassination is an instant kill, not a vote.

I'm allowing myself one off-topic post here to get this question out of the way -- Final Fantasy VI and it's not close. Capstone of the 16 bit era and far more about plot and character development than fancy 3D graphics / CGI.

Readlists are gross

To me, it's the lack of any explanation behind the read list which is more troubling. I've seen players put them together as "reaction tests" (Stealth in Cold/Colder War) to get discussion moving. Without the why, can't really do that much with it and especially this early in the game, there's not really much to glean about anyone. A cynical part of me thinks Grylander did this to get some early towncred vs. providing good insights.

To me, it's the lack of any explanation behind the read list which is more troubling. I've seen players put them together as "reaction tests" (Stealth in Cold/Colder War) to get discussion moving. Without the why, can't really do that much with it and especially this early in the game, there's not really much to glean about anyone. A cynical part of me thinks Grylander did this to get some early towncred vs. providing good insights.

Thanks for your thoughts -- I tend to be in agreement, especially this early and with respect to your bit about "lure someone to side with you because their list just happens to be similar to yours". In many recent games, that's been referred to as "pocketing" someone while you're scum and is an easy way to get a majority more quickly.

As for setup spec,

we have 4 TPR, but i think its safe to say 2 of them will be SPTR e.g. Rufus and Heidegger/Scarlet.
I don't think the host would give us both Jailor and blacksmith. So if somebody notices their actions the other can be eliminated.

The other thing i noticed is the amount of different roles. It will be almost impossible to map out night actions.
Also means the normal TPR should be wary of what they do since it can be confused with scum.
First priority should be to find out what the scum roles are asap.

And yeah if Rufus reveals he will be shot thats a given.

Honestly, this isn't a spirit contest for the Corporation, it's about finding the scum. I get that you enjoy the RP for this game which is great, but can you please try to approach posts in a more productive way? If anything, blatant fluff like this makes me think you are less likely to be Town.

GameFreak just posted a bunch of reads -- do you have any thoughts on them? Or, how about POD's strong push on HeadShrinker last night? There was a lot of strong interaction there worth discussing. Town doesn't feel the need to say they are town, its simply a given. Shown through effort in the game.
The only attitude you should adopt is transparancy in your thoughts.

Personally, I read POD's vote as a bit of a reaction test against HeadShrinker. We're not anywhere close to hammer and he's an experienced enough player to provide a more fleshed out explanation if needed. I can't say that the response from HeadShrinker was great (general defensiveness without much change in his approach to the game). Interestingly, neither HeadShrinker nor Saik really addressed POD's allegation of Mafia or Mafia buddy head on -- mostly short denials, which isn't necessarily typical of someone feeling they are being voted up erroneously.

I'm afraid this is the last post i'll be putting out until 7 hours from now. My thoughts about Mattzed so far is null to town leaning.

Every post he makes i'm basically thinking the exact same thing. Problem is i'm wondering if the new guys aren't just low hanging fruit.
And as you said, its easy to focus them. Because they make alot of mistakes that we have internalised as noobscum, overly reactive/defensive.
Posting lots of content over info etc. I would trust him going into D2 though.

It feels like PoD is playing equally aggresive but PoD i cannot follow in his reasoning. So although the same style of constant questions, MattZed is giving us good stuff to work with while PoD is not.

I never have had a game where D1 we lynched a scum. Because veterans know to just hang low and they won't be lynched,
so i'm wondering if instead we shouldn't be looking at Toad/Calix/SJ for a lynch and definitely more pressure.

On day one there's no data to call to in order to make a case for innocence. If you're casing me, there's literally nothing I've done except for vote the person who voted me since that's literally the safest move a new player to a community can do take that however you will. The only unsavory things I've seen so far is 3 people trying to railroad Headshrinker because they don't know how to read. How does one defend a hunch? Hunches tend to be a feeling or instinct not a well thought hypothesis with scientific backing, yet when he offers his say which he clearly marked as his feeling/hunch you all bandwagoned him like he just threatened the president and you're all secret service just because he didn't defend it since it's indefensible.

Honestly since it doesn't matter on D1 with the random votes kind of destroying any cohesion... I want to know why no heat's been brought to Excalibur, who hasn't participated at all so far, but is in the game. They get a free pass from everything since they didn't talk? Guess I should be much more passive then otherwise the hate train of MattZed, PoD, and Darkness will come take me away. Honestly, the level of inquisition you guys put up on almost every little detail publically would scream 'scum' where I come from.

Yeah, I am almost getting the infamous "too scummy to be scum" vibe from Grylander. The last time I remember someone apologizing for voting another person and attempting to bargain with them was one of Toadette's newbie-laden games (Spruance maybe?). That's just not the way to approach scumhunting at all -- it should be about persuasion and reads, not about bargaining with other players to get them on your side. Don't like this at all.

Also don't like this -- Excalibur is the policy lynch low-hanging-fruit candidate this game given he has yet to post and his memetastic track record otherwise. Per my earlier post, a mislynch plus 2 town kills makes this into a very uncomfortable 6-3-1 going into Day 2. This is not the game for a policy lynch because of the 2 KPN possibly swinging the game radically.

There are a number of savvy players in this game and given roles are randomized, I think it would presumptuous to assume all the less active / helpful players just happened to roll scum.

That all having been said, Grylander has looked pretty sketchy today though between the crappy reads (sans any explanation or follow-up, even today), shameless Corporation boosterism (in lieu of reads, pushes, or content), and attempting to bargain a truce with POD (apologizing for his vote, really?). For those reasons, I'm switching my vote to him.

Honestly, AIVION -- contribution isn't something that you are told to do, it's something that you need to do on your own. You've played enough forum mafia games that you should know this. Who do you think is Town? Who do you think is scum? Who do you think is the NK? What is your impression on Gyrlander's reads or HeadShrinker's reads? How about POD's sudden push last night which was somewhat unprompted? Or how about MattZed's pushes? What are your own reads? Basically, just comment on shit that you observe and whether you think it makes players more or less scummy seeming.

Honestly, AIVION -- contribution isn't something that you are told to do, it's something that you need to do on your own. You've played enough forum mafia games that you should know this. Who do you think is Town? Who do you think is scum? Who do you think is the NK? What is your impression on Gyrlander's reads or HeadShrinker's reads? How about POD's sudden push last night which was somewhat unprompted? Or how about MattZed's pushes? What are your own reads? Basically, just comment on shit that you observe and whether you think it makes players more or less scummy seeming.

I think it's more to do with the fact that most games have people voting all over the place, which is disruptive for EOD.
