New Role: The Rat / The Snitch

Alignment: Town

Must lynch all mafia and evil doers.

Power:
-Is in the same night chat with mafia,
can see all the mafia names and chat with mafia.
The real alignment is with town.
However, detectives and sheriff's detect him as mafia (even with detect exact role).
The rat/snitch appears as a mafioso (or random mafia role) to the other mafia members as well.
New feature: Mafia can now kill other mafia members at night if they suspect he/she is a rat/snitch.

Special Attributes:
-Know exact role of other mafia members at night.
-Silence a fellow mafia member in the day.

Investigated: Your target is suspicious - Mafioso.

What do you guys think ?

When blackmailer first came out I suggested to DR that he could not silence fellow mafia for griefing reasons. While a neat idea the griefing potention is too high imo for this role to go live.

This sort of idea hs difinate pottential, but I see a few flaws
1: If u have a troll god farther, he could start killing all his teamates
2: Rat should not be able to see the names of his fellow Mafia members(Makes it way 2 easy for town to then win)
3: I'm not so sure about giving the Rat the ability to silence teamates, as its a giveaway that theirs a Rat
U might also want to consider making the Rat appear town to dettectives.
As a solution to my 1st problem, u might want to give the consiglere the ability to detect mafia, and if 1 of them appears Rat, they commit suicide
Idea does deffinately have pottential

You can click the modify button so you don't need to double post.

Anyway this sort of seems like an upgraded version of the Miller. I always say add roles that add new dimensions to the game though so this would be one of those roles.

I like Auckmid's suggestion. We do not need to implement the exact descriptions I suggested. I am looking more to get a general concept of a snitch or rat role into the Mafia game ....

I suggested a similar role with the Mole (see my post). The problem with a role like this is that you could obviously easily destroy the Mafia by simply ratting out all the names on the first day. I think it would only be feasible if the Mole/Rat/Snitch was either unable to speak during the day or leave last wills.

Or if the "mole"/"rat" was unable to see Mafia names - only exact roles. He could chat with them, and would appear as Mafia to them.

Several problems with this role:
1: If GF cannot kill without Mafioso, if becomes VERY obvious who the fake Mafioso is once the REAL Mafioso is gone. Suddenly, the Mafia can't kill despite the fact that the GF is ordering hits. The Rat is immediately killed / lynched.

2: This role is only feasible for strategy if it comes up randomly. If the Mafia can see in the Role List that there is a Rat in-game, they will not trust each other. This in and of itself is an advantage, but the rat will be the focus of the Mafia search.

3: If the Rat cannot see Mafia names, it becomes very easy to test a Rat by simply asking for the Rat to say your name. If there is a Spy, this makes the Spy infinitely more powerful, but the Rat has the same power via Last Will. I agree that the Rat shouldn't be able to leave a Last Will.

If this was implemented:

Rat should show up as Mafioso, to Mafia and if investigated. Rat should be unable to see Mafia names - only exact roles. Rat should be able to chat with Mafia.

Even then, there would probably be balancing issues to work out.

Think of the Rat as an upset mafia member who wants to quit but won't be allowed to (would die), so he wants to get rid of the mafia anyway he can. He isn't a good guy though, just anti-mafia.

I like that idea a lot. I've always wanted there to be an anti-Mafia neutral role, in the same way that the Witch is an anti-town neutral.

Yeah. It would be sweet if, instead of having an anti-town neutral like witch, we had an anti-mafia neutral to even the scales

What stops the rat from just outing all of the mafia on day 1 and depriving the entire game of deception?

This role is not at all in the spirit of the game.
