View Full Version : The Perfect Save? (with Crier included)

Okay, I know the old adage, "Nobody's perfect." And the same goes for things and ideas too. But that doesn't mean we can't try. I very often run into games where people are dissatisfied with the save. It's impossible to please everybody, and sometimes those complaints are legitimate. But sometimes I see games where nobody takes issue with the save. I think the worst thing though, is when people who take issue with your save wait until the game has started to tell you.

What I want to achieve is as close to a perfect save as possible. Now we all have concepts of what we like, and this forum is most likely only going to attract the most serious of players. You aren't the guys naming yourselves "ARSONIST" or "420Blazeit" or "Kanye East" or "Unfunnyrapejoke" at the beginning of the game. At least, not often. You're the guys who play the game, rather than letting the game play you. And I get that. But based on what we know about the common player, what I'm looking to design is a save that is as close to universally liked as possible, that will be enjoyable to most people, and will be very balanced and winnable for either side every time. There are some conventions I'm familiar with. For example, it seems like two mafia and two triad is pretty standard these days, as well as neutral killing and neutral benign.

Oh, but there is one catch. I have this one peculiarity... I love the Crier role. Just love it. I love being it, and I love seeing other people be it. I don't know if it's having someone at night to sum things up and theorize while everybody else listens. I don't know if it's their attempts at humor that sometimes fall flat but sometimes work. But for whatever reason, I love the Crier.

So I'm looking for input on two different save ideals. The "perfect" one for most people, and the "perfect" one for most people that includes a crier role by default.

Here's what I've got so far:
-Crier
-Town Government
-Town Power
-Town Protective
-Town Killing
-Town Investigative
-Town Investigative
-Town Random
-Dragon Head
-Random Triad
-Godfather
-Random Mafia
-Neutral Benign
-Neutral Killing
-Any Random

I've gotten a little criticism from this save, but not a whole lot. I do, however, hear a lot of "Town is weak." about it. So... any suggestions?

(By the way, I hope save threads are allowed. I thought it was kinda weird that I didn't see many posts about saves post triad-update. So I hope I'm not breaking a rule by making this thread...)

I think its more of a 'the public player base is weak' than a 'the town is weak' But really if truly balanced saves were put on sc the town would never win. Refer to the ranked preset 'chicago'

Its nice to see a topic in mafia discussion that makes people discuss mafia btw

Oh, also, preferred role options and preferred exclusions would be useful too, if anybody has suggestions on those.

I am a big fan of escort detects Rb immune with gf/dh role block immune. Also nerf the Marshall to either 1 lynch of 3 people or 2 lynches of 2.

Looks ok , town a little underpower but well you need luck sometimes to win.
But i got only 1 question that will make my final decision.

Is pm ON or OFF?

It's shit because there isn't enough town random. You have to give scum room to hide in the roles list. Try adding like 2-4 Random Towns. Otherwise, a rolecall will just end the game.

Edit: Also, town seems like it might struggle against the KPN. 3 anti-town KPN and only one protection is a bit underpowered.

Each faction is like 2 turns away from death if everything went poorly. I suppose this is fair.
Crier being locked is terrible though. Crier should be Town Random. One Town Investigative should be Town Random.
Any Random should be Town or Witch or Benign.

REmove that town government and put something else such as...a citizen!

if you want a truly fair and balanced setup stick to citizens, mafioso, sheriff, doctor only.

anything else always leaves room for "well this could happen and completely ruin everything"

the standard 3/9/3 will always be the most fair, not perfect, but best attempt at balancing.

Looks like a good save for pub games with a high death rate. Since there are 3 killers, I'd make them NOT night immune.
