Prefer certain roles. If you don't get them, then they are not in the setup.
Example:
1. -prefer citizen
If you don't get citizen, you would know that anyone claiming citizen is lying even when the setup allows citizens.
2. -prefer Survivor, Amnesiac
If you don't get them, then it's jester or executioner

Etc...

It isn't a certainty... It gives you a higher chance of getting it if it flips in the setup...

I think.

Seems legit. Other than forcing you to play, typically, less than enjoyable roles.

It gives you like a 90% chance of getting it.

It's 10 matches short of a match box. So yes, you could mess up the whole game by possibly lynching someone who claims a role you prefered and didn't get.

Now I know to watch myself when playng with Mostache:D

It could be great advantage in the game if you e.g. prefered Framer and spawned as Sheriff...

To my experience, the chance is more like 100% as long as other players don't prefer the same roles but on the other hand I didn't play that many games since 20k.
It's just a simple deduction. At night I tell the roles that are not in if I roll mason, cult, mafia or crier. However, a smart spy will know that a 20k+ player is among the mafia, and as a crier you might be revealed by smart players, so you should be careful to not allow the other players to metagame (e.g. identifying yourself as the player you are by picking a specific name or avatar).

I've definitely not gotten jailor when I preferred it, and then had three jailors present in the game T.T

Blacklist however, is normally very effective at what it does. In the short time I had it -after I had to reset my comp because it got a virus- I never got the roles I blacklisted.
Sometimes you wish you can put more roles in. One game I didn't want to be Mafia. Only 7 possible Mafia roles at the time. I blacklisted six, and I flip Consigliere, the one Mafia role I hadn't blacklisted.
