View Full Version : Night I: History's Mark

Tonight, the 15th of August 1889, is not like other nights in the country town of Cosenza, Calabria. The impact of the events of the previous day is etched into not only the minds of those who witnessed them, but into the history of the town forever. The town had been at breaking point for some time; crime was on the rise and numerous people have been found dead in their homes. Every man, woman and child did not lift gaze at any other in the streets as to avoid the same fate.

With no information, and tension building in the air, the Mayor of Cosenza did something drastic to instill confidence in his followers. He pulled a woman completely at random from the street and dragged her to the gallows positioned at the center of town.

“Criminals, hear me now. Your presence in our fair city will not be tolerated. Let this be an example to all who would do ill in our city” The Mayor spoke with unfaltering conviction. He then pulled the lever and sentenced an innocent to death.

This gesture, meant to instill confidence, only escalated the turmoil. All the nobles of the town agreed that they must band together to cast out the criminals and they all consented to meet back at the gallows tomorrow… Little did they know that the criminal masterminds were among them. The truth of the matter was that in the underbelly of Cosenza, two criminal families were vying for power over the streets. Each family was equally poised; yet each with no idea of the others’ whereabouts.

Within the hidden compounds of their various Palazzos the ‘Ndrangheta organization plotted their eventual takeover of Calabria as a whole. Their arm in Cosenza fell on the De Luca family, a family governed by a figure known only as “The Godfather”; tasked with eradicating any opposition to the organizations operations in Cosenza. Directly opposed to the De Luca family’s presence in Cosenza was the Romano family. Being active in drug trades and various other criminal activities for some time, the Romano family moves now to eliminate all possible competition and any who would seek to oppose them.

With the town becoming increasingly aware and vigilant of criminals among them, it was time for both families to make their move… the price paid in blood

... Meanwhile a different kind of war was beginning. A lone Freemason, disgusted at the hanging of an innocent soul, moves to build an arm of the Freemason movement to bring faith back to Cosenza…

... Branded a heretic, a shadowy figure prays to a god most unknown to most of the world. The self proclaimed “Chosen One” mutters to himself that he must save this town from a foretold oblivion, having stumbled across an ancient stone tablet in his travels. Sensing time is short, the Chosen One moves to recruit worthy souls into the Cult of Ridda.

... In his home, a man receives a letter with a name on it… the one who must die to see his family released… the letter also says the kill cannot be subtle, but must be in front of the entire town in broad daylight via the gallows…

In this town of unrest the townsfolk who still live believe in one rule,

There is no one you can trust.

The hard rule is that absolutely NO gameplay discussion of this forum mafia game may be done for ANY reason at all with ANYONE outside of this subforum. Violators will be kicked out of the game without warning.

PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING TEXT. SOME OF IT HAS CHANGED SINCE THE LAST GAME. ESPECIALLY THE SPECIFIC ROLE OPTIONS.

Actions for using vests, using guns, or the role actions for Armorer, Gunsmith, Sheriff, Investigator, Doctor, Cult Leader, Serial Killer, Consigliere [De Luca], Hooker [Romano], and Framer [Romano], must be PM'ed to me (or posted in your night chats if you have them). You may choose to do no action, but you must tell me if you are doing nothing (for the sake of speed).

Voting-based actions, which are Mason, Romano Mafia, and De Luca Mafia must be given in their respective subforums. How you wish to structure the votes is up to you, but make sure the decision is clear to me.

Be advised that no actions except using a bulletproof vest can be performed on oneself.

The order of operations is:
0. Talking
1. Blocking
2. Mason Recruiting
3. Cult Recruiting
4. Protecting/Giving/Framing
5. Serial Killer Killing
6. De Luca Mafia Killing
7. Romano Mafia Killing
8. Gun Item Killing
9. Detecting

If a killer higher on the order of operations kills a killer sent from lower on the order the lower kill will be blocked.
Remember that Cultists that are also members of a Mafia may silently choose to not kill their target (via PM to me), so choose the person you send wisely.
If the last game is anything to go by, abstinence of lynching can be the town’s downfall.
Specific role options:

*All members of the mafia vote on who to kill and decide who to send to kill (any member can kill but sending a power role to kill will disable them from doing their other ability). If the Godfather is alive, his choice overrides the other votes.

*Godfather is invulnerable at night and comes up as a Citizen when investigated.

*Jester kills the last person to vote for them (the hammer vote) if lynched.

*Executioner commits suicide if his target is killed at night. There is NO RESTRICTIONS on the Executioner’s target.

*If the Executioner succeeds while the Serial Killer is still alive, the Serial Killer will be permitted to double kill the following night, not wanting to be outdone with the blood of the innocent. He can't be role blocked on this night either. If the serial killer happens to have a gun from the gunsmith, he may triple kill.

*The Doctor will be notified if their target is attacked.

*Masons can vote to recruit any Citizen, but the mason sent to do the recruiting gets killed if he tries to recruit Mafia, Serial Killer, or Cult Leader.

*Masons kill any cult members they try to recruit, though this does not apply to the Cult Leader himself as the Cult Leader kills the Mason.

*Cult Leader can recruit any role, The Cult Leader always is the one who does the recruiting, but if he tries to recruit a Mason, the Mason learns the Cult Leader's name. Cult members keep their original role but secretly change allegiance. If the Cult Leader dies, then half of the Cult (rounding up) at random kills themselves the following night, and the Cult cannot recruit anyone else afterwards.

*Gunsmith gives people guns and armorer gives people bulletproof vests. Vests and guns can be used separately from the other abilities a role may have (vest protects, gun kills). This works for every role in the game, including killing roles (can kill TWICE if you use an item). Only one item may be used at a time, and multiple items (even of the same type) can be stocked up.

*Serial Killer has 1 bulletproof vest that automatically works when he's hit. He does not kill roleblockers.

*Sheriffs only find Mafia, and not which type they are. Cultists will appear Innocent

*Investigators and Consiglieres have a 50% chance to see the exact role (including Cultist) and a 50% chance to see Citizen.
