View Full Version : So EagleMan warned me today

I haven't played Mafia in a few weeks. Decided to play a few public games today. Got lynched (I was mafioso). Right before my role was revealed, I used my three game pauses to add suspense and to be mildly annoying. He issued a warning at the same time I clicked to quit the game. I'm not complaining or crying abuse or anything like that. Just throwing it out there since obviously being mildly (or even very) annoying isn't actually breaking any rules...particularly when I'm using a feature that is built into Starcraft itself. Discuss my topic, or anything else you guys feel like discussing.

in game only - > its NOT illegal to spam porn websites, spam the same messege 1000x times in 1minute, troll, be racist, spam the pause button, or talk in lag messege menu.
it IS rulebreaking to do most of those on the forums.
all in all he cant infract u in game for any of the of the things i said its not illegal to do.
if they do manage to infract u then its an abuse of the moderators powers.

I think you are agreeing with me in your post, but I'm not positive.

Sometimes I get warned for no reason by certain people.
I think just because they are dead and are bored.

Yeah...could be boredom. Could be mod muscle flexing. Who knows.

What happens if you are warned anyways? Lol.

yes i am agreeing with u liquid. its ur god given right to spam that pause button so u do it!!
anyways, a mod giving u warning in game is basicly a messege that says "im asking you nicely to stop, not as a mod but as another player, what you are doing isnt very nice and could be taken the wrong way, all in all you are causing less people to love this game" in game at least. on here it could be much worse.

It's tough to spam something that you can only do 3 times. It happens pretty much every game by a minimum of 5 different players and is resolved within about 3-15 seconds depending on how many people do it. You can ask someone to stop via chat rather than issuing a warning. Both do the same thing...but the chat option conveys the message without seeming incompetent. But of course, people are free to convey their messages however they choose.

No such thing as Mod abuse.

It's a warning, get over it D:
Stop trying to annoy people cause you're getting lynched.

Using the same line of reasoning:
It's a game pause, get over it D:
Stop trying to flex your mod muscles cause you need to feel powerful. (of course, this is directed at the situation and not at you personally)

Warnings do nothing, I don't warn for pausing because SC2 limits it to 3 times so it's self limiting if annoying. The ingame chat system also limits spam fairly well. On the other hand to just add on to kyle's statement, talking in lag chat is fine... but you will be reported if you spill game-relevant info in lag chat. Usually with me it's first time, warn, second time or if they are extreme about it I kick.. and yes that includes stuff like "LYNCH YELLOW" or "X IS SCUM"

I warned you for pause spamming, and I warn others for pause spamming, because people who pause spam tend to do other things as well. So it's just to warn them that there's a moderator in the game. Also, some people who pause spam hope to create a chain of pause spams by trying to get other people to unpause, so that is trolling the whole game, and in a way that can't be concealed as being a possible Jester or a WIFOM tactic.

I don't think anyone has an issue with you sanctioning people for exposing information in the lag chat.

You can't spam something that you're limited to doing 3 times. Even if everyone used their pauses, it'd delay the game 5-15 seconds. People will spam and troll and be annoying. You may not like it, but it's part of the game sometimes. Warning them isn't an answer, particularly when they aren't acting against the rules.
Also, that's some pretty damn flimsy reasoning. "People who pause spam tend to do other things as well." Not only is your assumption not true (I've seen hundreds of people who pause the game and have done nothing more), it's also wrong to try and warn people for things they have not done. You don't just warn people because you have some suspicion that some rule-breaking activity MAY occur after that person used his 3 pauses. It'd be the equivalent of giving a school student detention after he ran (rather than walked) down the halls because you suspected, without any inkling, that the runner is likely to pull the fire alarm next.
