    Keeping new players around

I don't know how much you guys want to keep your new members around, but there's one thing i wanted to discuss about that might repel people from playing FM games:

There will always be a moment when everyone else in the game starts accusing and voting you, making it very tedious to defend yourself, especially during D1 when there's basically nothing to talk about, i know it's part of the game, but that can be really game breaking to some people.

Yes, i know, such pressure shouldn't be lurked off, you're always repeating this, what you're not telling the newcomers, on the other hand, is how this kind of pressure should be delt with.

You will probably all have different ways, so i'd like you to post them in here, i really feel like this should be mentionned to every newcomer, otherwise they could be in for a nasty surprise and might not be willing to play again.

Title of this thread should probably be: How to deal with voting pressure.

Some ways I deal with pressure:
    1. Alter your playstyle/persona according to the reasons they accuse you of.
    2. Ignore the pressure. Take a break with some relaxing music.
    3. Post about someone else.
    4. Attack them emotionally/Make an emotional appeal.
    5. Manipulate something.
    6. Talk about the lurking players.
    7. Make an ISO. Preferably two.
    8. Roleclaim
    9. Continue to pocket people amiable to you.
    10. Make some false promises.
    11. Address their case, choose whether to agree or disagree with them on you.
    15. Make a wall post, make it hard to read.
    16. Say the person accusing you is your strongest townread.
    17.

    My "favorites"
    12. Call their case a misrep.
    13. Say that they are throwing shade.
    14. Tell them to piss off.

The Rest of you are active in some way

So 5/9 active forum members isnt bad. With 4/5 being staff, 4/5 being active in forum mafia.

So i guess the Starter games resulted in lets say, 5 Successful and active people And each one of you is awesome and brilliant ^^

    Re: Keeping new players around

To SuperJack's credit, the people selected for the first Beginner's Game were all fairly active members of the Mafia community (mod or otherwise), which contributed to a group dynamic where people were able to feed off each other and develop momentum. Sure, the game wasn't perfect of course, but many of the participants were among the most active last S-FM Ladder Season (Unknown, Mesk) with others continuing to participate as well (Sino, PTB).

Honestly, I think SuperJack changed my entire mafia experience. If somebody hadn't of dropped out of the beginner game, and had SuperJack call to me as a replacement, I wouldn't be here right now.

    Mind blowing.

Best way is just to accept the pressure. Logically explain why you're acting the way you're acting, saying the things you're saying. The added contribution to the game + logic = people will move onto someone else. Sure, occasionally you'll get people who can't even understand your posts, so they keep saying you said stuff when you didn't; but that's not the large majority, and you can ignore those people once the Town leader moves on to someone else.

Best way to avoid pressure is to be the Town leader yourself. If you're controlling who is pressured most of the time, you won't be pressured unless you start making mistakes or illogical arguments.

I would probably answer all questions and incriminations and if I get voted by too many people I would get a little agressive or ironic

Crypt said it already -- often times, the best defense is a good offense. If you are scumhunting yourself, making good contributions, asking valuable questions, etc., people are going to see you providing value and that usually means you're not a good early lynch target. Far easier to get into a pressure situation if you don't have much to say or if it looks like you're holding something back perhaps because you have alignment information as the Mafia.

Kind of true, but needs more specifics. Your offense should not be on your accuser unless you have legitimate reasoning. You can redirect onto other players, but the person pressuring with push harder if you push them. And everyone will see it as a desperate attempt to stay alive

Agreed, OMGUS isn't good (though, if you have good reason to suspect your accuser, that's fair game) nor is trying to change the subject when you get pushed because you might be seen as evasive. Better to strike a good tone when the game begins so you don't have to dig yourself out of a hole.

    Yuki point of view:
Insult is the worst option of play style.
While trying to lead the town look suspicious. At least it's still a lead
Doubt too much make me cannot (move on) to contribute anything

Indeed. Best way to go about it is not an OMGUS but making someone who isn't accusing you look like scum. Works better if you are Scum, however, because you can really push it off on any town member.
    Mafia Record:
    Spoiler : On Site/Universal Total :
    ..Total: 5/9 = 55.6% | 61/104 = 58.3%..
    ...Town: 3/5 = 60% | 42/76 = 55.3%...
    ....Mafia: 0/2 = 0% | 14/23 = 60.9%....
    .....3P: 1/1 = 100% | 3P: 3/5 = 60%.....
    My advice on Mafia play:
    Get the Led Out
