Thread: S-FM 293: ç

  1. ISO #1901

    Re: S-FM ç

I think the fundamental disconnect is you seem to want people to treat it as their true current reads list, but the players don’t care and just manipulate it to serve whatever purpose they want. Like for it to work exactly as you want it, it seems like you’d need to get people to agree not to intentionally fuck with it
Have you ever heard the tragedy of Darth Jar Jar the wise?

People are definitely uncomfortable with not letting their #1 scum read escape into the next day. Even if their #3 is at the top.

But yeah, you're right. Fucking with the votes defeats the purpose. I can't think of anything else besides like only revealing top 3 or something. But then people would still fuck with the votes.

Regarding condorcet, I think having some numbers to indicate how many votes are required to move a player to a different slot in the list would make the whole thing feel much more transparent. Then you'd actually know whether you're dealing with a proper train or it's just individual votes that randomly resulted in a player becoming #1.

If you want something graphical you can do this in R btw
with Shiny, which is basically a web server for hosting R apps

R is painfully slow however so you’d have to do most of the coding in JS or Java

This actually gave me an idea. Instead of having the boy scrape the thread for new votes, you could add some buttons to the website that players have to click to vote, and so the vote gets registered. That might make the whole process significantly smoother and less susceptible to bad internet syndrome

Bahaha exactly and that's why this game was magnificent

GG everyone, especially you @Gyrlander for solving this game pretty fast.
There was the trolly side of the game, sure, but there also was the very instructive side : people WILL suspect eachother like paranoids even if they're all town. There was a huge net of suspicions in this game, and all of them were purely TvT with absolutely no evil deeds. We even had fakeclaims! Blood messiahs, "I have secret info", all of that was just completely fake and made by townies. Nobody will see the next games the same way they had seen the previous ones if they learn from this one, myself included.

I have to say I’m excited for the next completely open game. People should be exiting this game with a slightly altered perspective.

Well, I'm sad there wasnt scum. And it feels like a mafia social experiment youd think you could be in, but wouldnt expect it.

If anything, I'm glad I have a better understanding of town metas from various players.

I think there's a big write-up I could make about using town apathy to form a town core somewhere in the confusion we all felt day two -- but I'll leave that for another time.

Should I fuck with people by going back and forth between the third person and first person? Or is that hypocritical bc I vote people for not being pro town game solvy.

    I don’t think that’s a tell...
i remember reading somewhere that cues like usage of personal pronouns and whatnot are the LEAST reliable indicator of truthfulness and yet people use them all the time

Lies. The amount of "crocodile dundee > you" in someone's post is worse when used as an indicator.
Using "grammar tells" and saying someone uses "scum syntax" might not be the strongest tool in a townie's kit, but they can still be tools if used correctly, just like meta. I do agree that those tells should not take a big place in people's play, though (unlike meta to some extent).

Sorry but it just does. Things like ‘I’ or ‘you’ are not included in as part of syntax btw
