I think this would be a fun neutral investigative role. Could swing whichever way you wanted to go. Tried to balance the card reveals as best I could. This could obviously be more detailed, or less detailed. Just threw this together to get some thoughts on it.

Yes that is where I was getting the idea from, I mean as far as surviving that is the point of the role, choose what information to give or not to give. If you aid town, you are a target to evil, and vice versa. It is a neutral role keep in mind, since there is no other investigative roles for neutral it could really mix up game play. most neutral roles tend to side with evil to be honest, so survivability wise you are always a threat to town. This role would be a new way to side with either or w/o rolling survivor and way more enjoyable.

See my other reply to Voss about a neutral investigator, But I'm trying to think of neutrals that are really "Neutral". Like you said some of these results can be town favored, but also evil. Most Neutrals Roles are favored towards Evil, which isn't really...neutral right? It would also allow more save variations besides the very standard ones we keep seeing. Just an Idea. Try to look at it with a optimistic mind and it's purpose. Was just a idea I had though.

    Re: Fortune Teller

I always felt like investigative roles should have an innate need or at least, incentive to gather and share information with a specific faction. It's something that goes against the nature of being alone as a neutral, but I respect the appeal of the idea. There actually dozens of neutral roles with mechanics that put them on the 'fence' so to speak. But at what point does sitting on the fence so long become abusing/not fun for other players. You'll pick the side most likely to win, obviously.

I think some other parts of the game need to be sorted out before something like this becomes an appealing role to play. Kingmaker situations (akin to, "who do I wanna help/give my info to?") are something I'm trying to cut down on substantially.

If the saves that are currently hosted is a concern, I'll by trying my best to incentivize different setups in a way that's fun.

    Re: Fortune Teller

I agree mostly for everything you said except the neutral fence part. Most neutrals are actually favored toward evil and really are not truly "Neutral". Survivor is definitely a on the 'fence; role, but boring to play, and would be one of the few roles that can win with both sides and neither hurts or helps both sides. Judge, Witch, Auditor, etc, Definitely swing to help evil by default and can only win with evil.

I guess I'm just trying to create a role like Amnesiac, A true neutral role as 'you' the player, have the choice to swing one way or the other and win with any side you choose.

Harder to type this stuff out and convey my reasoning for my suggestion. I'll just have to rethink some ideas. Thanks for the feedback everyone.

    Re: Fortune Teller

To say that most neutrals are favored toward evil, but then to lump the benigns with them is essentially a straw man argument here. As an evil neutral, the argument about fence sitting, and whether or not to swing the game in favor of town or not is kind of moot. It's in the win condition of those "evils" to not let town win. The role being suggested here is a benign, and it would definitely be a "fence sitter", since its win condition isn't specified to not let town win.

Also, my two-cents on king maker situations. Not that I'm arguing that we should make more king maker scenarios, and not that I'm asserting everyone acts this way 100% of the time, the way i see these truly benign roles are more of a guard against acting like an asshat. Two easy examples come to mind if I'm playing true survivor. If the town's being an asshole, and they suck, and they get down to a 1v1 with me as king, I'll side against them. Now if town leaves me alone, and mafia is shooting me every night to kill me, and then they get to 1v1, I'll side against them.

And as for saves, good luck trying to change meta =P

I know the feeling. Roles aren't easy to come up with and I envy people who can create something truly unique that doesn't feel forced or overly complex (especially neutral benign.) The main problem with roles that change alignment is how swingy they can be. There are some checks and balances you can add to those types of roles to reduce that, but balance and fun don't always go hand in hand. There are some good resources out there for ideas though. Mafia Universe, Epic Mafia, Mafia Scum all have databases for roles that I'd check out. Even our own @Cryptonic created a great database that I've looked over dozens of times for ideas here: http://www.sc2mafia.com/forum/showth...gestion-Thread

    Goodluck!

    Re: Fortune Teller

The thing is does neutral benign even need that ability? Most of the results would be pretty useless to him like everyone usually knows if someone is Escort or Consort, Investigator or Consgiliere etc. And other results would be almost like Investigator exact role which would border OP. Neutral benign would a lot more use an alignment check like sheriff rather than crimes/possible roles check like Investigator, maybe limited to 2-3 uses or something.
