    Re: A Probing Question

Personally I dont think that you can ever be too old to play. This is a hobby and, barring any mental afflictions, the longer you keep your mind engaged the stronger your mind lasts.
I dunno, I have always looked at the game of mafia fondly and enjoyed the challenges it inflicts on my life. My wife enjoys the mafia stories and the methods I use in the game. The community is both highly frustrating but also very engaging. Course the community seems to be dwindling and Im interested in the why here. So talk to me?

I feel like I will want to play this game for the remainder of my time with a fully functional mind.

I think there is objectively a too young range to be playing forum mafia. I also think I objectively was in that range when I started playing forum mafia in fucking middle school jesus christ

I enjoy mafia for the social skills it provides me. It's a good way to help me think positively about what a person wants in a given scenario. I find I'm quicker to analyze something and use logistical skills much more frequently. It's a really fun thought excersize that I don't think has a maximum age, and even looking back at how massively cringey some of my earlier games were, I still remember very fondly. It's something that I think I can always sit down and come back to after a while, even through rust.

The problem with intensive mafia games like this is that it's easy to get burnt out. And with such a small community on this site, if too many players are burnt out, then we don't fill games. A good example is the 30 player FM that has been sitting in limbo since January. I also feel very out of place on other sites. I've played two separate offsite games and, on both of them, it just didn't give me the same feeling, probably because one of them had a very shitty site meta and the other one had a very shitty vote system (aka: none at all) and was almost unusable.

I guess what I'm saying is that players sometimes forget that fun has to come first. If you aren't having fun, or you don't have the time, or the game becomes stressful, then don't feel pressured to play. If you find you cannot balance the game with your life, please drop the game and not your life. If you try to push through it, it becomes unbearable.

dont forget to go outside, kids.

edit: i think i read every single M-FM on the site back in 7th grade because it was so interesting to me

I think the obvious most interesting thing about mafia is the people. There are plenty of other games/activities out there that can satisfy the majority of things that mafia does without having the cons of gamethrowers, cheaters, etc.

So to me, the main reason people are drawn to this game is precisely because the community is so small. In a short time, you can get to know the majority of daily active players, learn their habits, and they can learn yours. You can make friends and enemies just like that in the blink of an eye. In my opinion that is why people keep coming back and why this community is so different from some of the larger mafia communities. It’s more like a dysfunctional family than it is like an actual gaming group.

In my opinion, too old to play FM = dead, excluding any disabilities coming with old age, obviously. This is a game about strict mental and social skills, so I can hardly see how one would be too old to play. I say that now and it might not be true later, but I don't plan to stop anytime soon.

And as SB16 said, if you don't have fun, take a break of FM and come back later. Taking a break of real life doesn't work.

About the site itself, I believe there is an actually friendly gaming group at the core of the site. Else, this would be anarchy. Plus, we have a voting bot, which is actually not something that is so common on Mafia sites. That does contribute to the site's attractivity.

tbh I've hated/loved everyone on this site at different points in time.

well, that's debatable. I've not told anyone IRL about Mafia, and likely never will. I would be pretty ashamed if people found out I was so active on the Internet
that being said, I don't see anything wrong with the game of Mafia itself. It's probably one of the most interesting games I've ever played.
Also, too young to play? That depends on the person, though generally, you should be no younger than 15-16. In my case, some would say I am still too young to play. People who are emotionally unstable should not play Mafia lol, you'll fuck things up all the time

really? I had Mafia figured for more of a reasoning-type of game than a social one. I find the social aspect quite lacking, the only thing social about it is the community itself, at least in my eyes
I feel that the people who are good at the game are also pretty good when it comes to debating. I have a colleague who's very good at debating, he would wreck people in Mafia I think =P; also, I've noticed a lot of scumpainting gets thrown around in debates, especially if the participants lack debating skills/arguments

    Re: A Probing Question

No age limit but to play with young people who are, for the better part, still immature intellectually you have to compensate for it which personally I find hard to muster the effort for. Not saying young people are the only ones intellectually immature (everyone here has had their dummy spit moments regardless of their age) but it's a biological fact that young people predominately do not grasp social skills as well as older people do as a whole.

If a kid with a good head on their shoulders is playing FM I wouldn't give a shit. I just can't stand 1) straight up trash can logic/thinking process, 2) people who notoriously are AFK. With that I refuse to play any game with those certain people here. Overwhelming majority of people here are fine tho.

This actually hits super close to home as to my feelings towards this community/the other smaller communities I frequent! <3

We are a beautifully dysfunctional group of amazing people! :P

Everybody is equally weak on the inside, just that some present their ruins as new castles and become kings –
Deep into that darkness peering, long I stood there, wondering, fearing, doubting, dreaming dreams no mortal ever dared to dream before.
If your dear heart is wounded, my wild heart bleeds with yours.

I don't think shitposting is more noble or more mature than playing FM. Of course, it depends how you play it, but... I honestly don't believe shitposting beats it.

With the exception of actually good shitposts effort was put in. Yours isn't one, sadly.
