    S-FM Converging Realities by Auckmid : Host's Thread

    Spoiler : Present Day RP D1 :
    For the past 20 years, the town has been ruled by the Council of Mages; a group of of sorcerers and other magic users that gained control of the town after a prior bloody conflict. While significant resentment was felt between both the townsfolk and the mages as a result of this conflict, an uneasy peace was able to emerge. The mages tried to govern fairly, at least for the most part, while the townsfolk resumed their daily lives... with some exceptions. During this time period, a group of anti-magic freedom fighters emerged, unable to let go of their past hatred. While this group had not previously been seen as a large threat, they had begun ramping up their terroristic activities to the point that they have started violently assaulting anyone who they believe to be at all unsympathetic to their cause.

    However, it was not some simple assault that caused an emergency meeting to be called in the town hall. Instead, something much more sinister was taking place. By all accounts, time was beginning to unravel around the village. Birds were seen flying backwards, butterflies would enter cocoons only to emerge as caterpillars, and a giant crack had appeared without warning through the face of the clock tower above the town hall as if to symbolize these bizarre events.

    Despite any misgivings they might have had, the townsfolk had no desire to restart their previous conflict with the mages. The only group with a motive to orchestrate this type of event were the freedom fighters themselves. If the town is to remain stable, this group must be eliminated.

    The town hall seemed almost too peaceful for the violence the townsfolk knew was going to ensue in an effort to avert the upcoming catastrophe. Children were gathered around the town's storyteller, who could be heard saying "Magic has always existed in this world...".

    There was no point in delaying their meeting any further. The townsfolk had to figure out who was responsible for this event or they risked losing everything in their lives...

    “Magic has always existed in this world. It represents the ability for people to break the limitations of their physical forms to perform wondrous feats that they never could do otherwise. Of course, magic also represents the ability to cause massive pain and destruction. And with something as polarizing as magic, it is only natural for people to eventually stop seeing the good and focus solely on the bad.

    This is the situation that the town found themselves in 20 years ago. After the son of the blacksmith was found dead by the river with his body horribly mutated, members of the town demanded justice against the magic users that they knew were responsible. This situation made it too easy for the Templars, an extremist anti-magic group, to gain control of the town’s government. Under their leadership, the witch hunts started. Anyone accused of being even remotely associated with the magical community were burned to death in an orgy of retribution.

    As everyone knows, the Templars failed in their mission. With magic users being hunted down and killed, those that remained banded together to overthrow the Templars and install their own government, one that embraced magic and punished any who tried to prevent its use; The Council of Mages.

    I get ahead of myself though. This story takes place before the Templars have been completely overthrown, when a group of the remaining villagers convened to try to figure out how they could beat the magic users. Many of these villagers are still here today, of course having repented their misguided ways and pledging allegiance to the council. It took place in this town hall under this same clock tower with the same crack… was there a crack back then? I’m sure there was… How did I not notice until now…? My memory is getting rather foggy… I know at least there was a meeting in an attempt to find the remaining magic users. They were doomed to fail, but at that time, they didn’t know it…”

    Abilities:
    Each night, hex a target player. Hexing occurs after roleblocking and redirection in the OoO, but before any other steps.
    The effects of a hex are as follows...

    • The hex lasts until the end of the following night.
    • While hexed, all actions which target the hexed individual fail with one exception...
    • If the hexed individual is of an opposing faction, any heals directed towards them are converted into kills which ignore immunity.
    • Hexed players are notified of the effects of the hex, even if they die during the same night that they receive the hex.

    If you are targeted by a kill from a player with the same win condition as you, the kill fails and both you and the killer are notified of each others identities.
    You are still vulnerable to vigilante kills, blacksmith guns and other such effects, even if you are targeted due to manipulation from players with the same win condition as you.

    RP: After you emerged victorious against the templars, you saw it as an opportunity to take control of the town with your allies at your side to live a life of luxury. However, instead of taking total control, your so-called allies decided to govern “fairly”. After 20 years of this, you finally broke. If you had have known these people would act like this, you would have taken steps at the end of the conflict to prevent them from interfering with your plans. As such, you decided to cast a spell so powerful that it could change the past and then joined a local anti-magic resistance group to take control of the town if your spell didn’t work. Of course, you can’t cast magic around your new associates, but it matters not. You’re more beautiful then ever and still know how to manipulate the hearts of men.

    The townsfolk ended up defeated in their conflict againstthe mages. However, this turned out to be far more of a boon then you could have anticipated. The mages, well aware of the influence you hold over thetown, gave you significant bribes to promote their cause. You don’t know what’s causing the strange occurrences, but your group sees it as a perfect opportunity to strike against the hated magic users.

With an emergency meeting now called, you feel no desire to overthrow the mages and only want to protect the town.

    RP: As a master of curses, you have spent most of your life living in solitude. Your goals have always been more scholarly then malevolent and you have been content to stay out of the way of other people. However, now with the templars leading witch hunts, you are more then prepared to use your curses to dispatch those who would hurt you.

    As the local records keeper, you recognized the dangers of allowing open conflict break out between the townsfolk and magic users and you cautioned against such hostilities. However, when the blacksmith's son was found dead, you could not prevent war from breaking out between the two factions. With a heavy heart, you have chosen to assist the townsfolk in their struggle, using your vast knowledge however you can to help.


    Abilities:
    Each night, hex a target player. Hexing occurs after roleblocking and redirection in the OoO, but before any other steps.
    The effects of a hex are as follows...

    • The hex lasts until the end of the following night.
    • While hexed, all actions which target the hexed individual fail with one exception...
    • If the hexed individual is of an opposing faction, any heals directed towards them are converted into kills which ignore immunity.
    • Hexed players are notified of the effects of the hex, even if they die during the same night that they receive the hex.

    If you are targeted by a kill from a player with the same win condition as you, the kill fails and both you and the killer are notified of each others identities.
    You are still vulnerable to vigilante kills, blacksmith guns and other such effects, even if you are targeted due to manipulation from players with the same win condition as you.

    After the death of Light, the town reconvened with new purpose. They suspected that Marshmallow Marshall was responsible for the previous night's killing and chose to lock him up in a nearby tower until they could be certain.

    It is decided that it is far too risky to allow the ritual to take effect. Working on the commands of the same mage who identified the ritual in the first place, the town joins together and chants a counter spell. It only takes a few minutes before the storyteller snaps out of his trance. As soon as he does, the vortex above dissipates and everyone breathes a sigh of relief. Now it's time to check what damage has been done...

    "What was I talking about? Of course none of that ever happened. The town's emergence meeting was right at the end of the conflict. Very few people died after that point. Damus_Graves was a troubled soul and suspision did fall onto him during those paranoid times. However, he was saved by the magic users who he was sympathetic towards. Kenny was a target of one of the final attacks of the conflict, but he was far too tough to let anything like that kill him. And Eclipse was never in any peril for the entire war, he just got interrogated once or twice by a local mercenary. My imagination really must have gotten away from me..."

    20 Years Ago is now dead. Nothing further will occur in the thread. The graveyard has been revealed.



    While the timeline had been saved thanks to the intervention in the town hall, massive devastation had been brought to the town due to the vortex. One of the casualties from this was Marshmallow Marshall. The tower he was being kept him was now nothing more then a pile of rubble.

    While it had been forgotten in the commotion of the anomaly, a thorough coroner's report had been done for all three of the loyal villagers killed in the recent days. Hopefully, the town could make their deaths not be in vain as, once again, the town convened for a meeting.

    Present Day is now canon. The remainder of the game will occur in this thread. The graveyard has been revealed.
