Maslenitsa is a russian national celebration, it's celebrated at pre-last week of winter.
It's about opening gates to spring, and saying "hello" to it...
We oftenly eat pancakes (bliny, as we call) during maslenitsa, it symolyse the sun, also name of celebration is based on word "Масло", it means "Butter" on russian.
Also, at last day of maslenitsa (it will be tomorrow, 18th febuary) we burn a dummy, that symbolise winter.

26th of January my nation collectively gets burnt to a crisp in the sun while consuming mass amounts of lamb while sitting in a small inflatable pool that is usually a tad over crowded
