    Question Escort's origin?

Hmmm... I was just changing my profile a bit when I changed my avatar.
I wanted to change my "role" from a Jester to a Consort and I noticed that there's no Escort/Consort...
    ...there's just a Stripper/Hooker xD

    ================================================== ==============

So I'm wondering - was that an original name of that role? lol

Blizzard is very sensitive to there being adult themes in Arcade games, and given we're talking about America, that means as much violence as you want, but anything the least bit having to do with sex is a big no-no. Escort / Consort were deemed to be more muddled terms that would avoid censorship.

Yeah, pretty sure it was the latter vs. the former honestly. At least with SC1, maps were hosted by players vs. being uploaded to Battle.net so there were no censorship restrictions whatsoever and that meant all sorts of insane shit you would never see today (for example, games with nude ASCII art, Break the Condom, Are You Gay?, Are You a Retard?, etc.). Not that those games were particularly well-thought out, but they were still funny to play once or twice. It also meant that people were able to adopt and modify maps far more easily than they can these days.

yeah but escort just sounds like a completely different role...
it sounds more like a protective role like doc or bg, it doesnt match a role-blocking role's name :P

The Escort is considered a Protective role technically speaking, at least in terms of categorization. Think of it as the Escort "occupying" your night so you can't take your normal night action. An Escort is just a fancy name for Prostitute anyway.

Yeah, there are definitely trade-offs. That said, it was also easier to host a less frequently played game on SC1 and have people join just because of how games were listed. Whereas with SC2, if the game isn't on the first 2-3 pages of the Arcade, no one is ever going to play it unless you have a group of your own. Many great SC2 games have died / been abandoned for this reason unfortunately.

I remember in WC3 there was this super popular map which involved the arch villian "super hitler claus", which was a combination of super man, hitler and santa claus, who's goal is to burn all the jews - save all the hookers - and gift as much coal as possible.
The protagonists? Mormons, scientologists, jehova's witness, nazi oppressors, etc.

Hell on earth if that was ever uploaded on SC2 lol.

If you really want to dig into the nomenclature, typically Escorts are prostitutes who don't work on the street and solicit themselves. It's like a call girl as opposed to a street walker.

And yes, in a number of countries, prostitution is legal.

Eh, Blizzard would probably just pull the map immediately if they are auto-checking or as soon as some hypersensitive person reported it. For example, I imagine they at least censor with respect to the map name -- anything with a sexually explicit title probably can't even be uploaded in the first place. I guess that's the trade-off between having them host the maps and giving players that responsibility though -- at least in the latter case, you could host all sorts of crazy shit and avoid censorship.

Yeah, there are a lot of glitches and issues to resolve with the 3.0 update -- it's going to be a work in process for sure. I imagine they wanted to roll it out in advance of LOTV being released so they'd have time to iron out the bugs before the influx of players pick up the game again.

Escorts are hired from Escort Agencies by men to attend events, parties, ect. They are not paid to have sex, but it's insinuated. You cannot offer money for this, but if the lady likes you (which can be encouraged with larger tip), then they will have sex with you. But it's not a service they are required to provide.

Yup, it's technically hiring someone for "companionship", but anything beyond the mere act of the person going to spend time with you is something which is happening between consenting adults. I.e. any sex that occurs is not a part of the agreement to hire an Escort, is at the discretion of the two parties, and thus isn't prostitution (at least that's how the argument goes). Basically, it's a loophole for prostitution in places where it's not legal.

Agree. A veteran player in my other game got ban for a week because he has a awesome habit spam chat
    : Heil Hittler, my furher
So Blizzard banned him for being a Nazi (Rough On Floor Laughing)
Jew mad? He did Nazi that coming

Blizzard is extremely risk-averse to anything that might get them negative publicity to the outside world. Included would be pro-Nazi type of chat, especially given it's outlawed in certain countries. They would rather ban the person in question even if it's a joke / trolling vs. risking negative publicity like having some news story about how people chant Nazi-related stuff on their games.

A lot of host sites' TOS forbid all the "fun" stuff.

I posted a very filthy porn story on a hidden forum- hidden as in could not be seen by more than 6 specific mods - and the host site shut down my whole site for it, claiming that a 13-year-old might see it, which was impossible. I had to delete the post and promise to be good forever before they let me have my board back.

Sounds like there's a story behind this -- you actually wrote said porn story or just copied it from somewhere else to post it in order to troll?

Except not really. PLAYERS can do anything since their actions are not hard coded into the map. But stuff like Hooker/Stripper and the "like a Jew" execution get noticed by Blizz.

Yup, it's a lot easier for Blizzard to be able to notice something offensive in a map and pull the map / contact the mapmaker vs. police all player behavior taking place in all games at all times.

    I wrote it.

The original admin from my site was a troll and a half - he could mop up the floor with this lot. He gathered friends from my site to mass troll another site, attacking specific members. The pron story was directed at a member of that other site that had a ridiculous crush on a certain musician. It was absolutely filthy, as I said, but it didn't portray her crush in a nice light - ample moobs and grey fuzzy balls were mentioned...

That other site was eaten alive by spambots so our efforts were pointless. It no longer exists.
