The hit was a bunt; the pony manning the third base ran to the ball, grabbed it and threw it to the catcher at the home-plate just in time to call an out on the running pony, winning the game for the outfield team. The catcher is the first pony. Later, the pitcher (second pony) comes up and takes the ball, claiming it is his instead of the first pony's.
I already said on the last page that neither of these ponies were playing a game!!

It was worth so much because the pony was a famous baseball player.
Aaaaand, there, I suppose that's finally close enough! CONGRATS, YOU SOLVED IT!!!

The ball was a home run hit by a famous player, setting a record for homers hit in a single season! BOTH ponies were actually in the audience, though. The second one caught it, but lost it in the after-game chaos!! Then the first one picked it up, and claimed ownership of it for a while! They actually had to go to court to decide whose the ball was, and a judge decided the ball should be sold and they'd split the profits!!!

I'll have a new puzzle for you all, but it'll be later tonight!
