This is true in a lot of ways, because as you play FF's you realize the story in FF8 is shit. Play FF5 first, the humor is amazing and can help ease you into the FF series as its not one of the harder final fantasies. The job system is also amazingly fun. However the random encounter rate is pretty high

I second that. It was the first FF I played, and I really liked it at the time. It's also the only one I didn't replay even after years.

I replay it on a regular basis, it's the only FF I enjoy playing leisurely; can't stand ap grinding on FF7, 9, 10, 12.

With FF8 you grind for like 30 minutes in the beginning of the game, play an hour or two of cards and you're set for the rest of the game. Lionheart disc 1 and everything.
