    "Professional Mafia"

I had an idea to form Teams for Mafia games, like professional sports teams. I would like to achieve this in a way that would create rivalries and make games entertainingly interesting, but without possibly digging legitimate rifts between players.

The idea is very raw, but it would have multiple 'teams' of 2-5 players that would receive scores for hosting and playing like in the S-FM Ladder, but would be scored as a whole. There would also be some effective change to scores for teams winning solo, or winning with members of another team, etc, etc.

Would anyone be interested in helping me iron out these details? Or is this a terribly worthless idea?

    Examples of Team concepts.
    - FM 16: Damus_Graves, Gerik, Slaol, Auckmid, Clementine
    - Youngbloods: Kusco, sc2reboot, Sen, Madbird20
    - Calgary Stampede: Cryptonic, Bunny, ckMistro (lol@mistroplayingmoreFMs)

There might also need to be a score for attitude and being friendly

More thoughts: There could be points awarded for defeating enemy Team members, but more points for winning with rival teams. Where as defeating your own members would not be as valuable, but winning with them wouldn't either. So big teams get aid by having more people to play games, but lose points as in any given game they have less rival teams to win with.

Hmm, but how would this work? Let's say players from team A are in the same FM, but in different factions. To not gamethrow they can't really help each other. And that means that we can just take each player's invidual score and add it together, without need for teamplay.

Unless Team League would play in special games where every team is revealed. Something like AAAA vs BBBB vs CCCC. I don't know how to make such game interesting though.

    --------------------------------------

I have a different idea. Forum Battles. Why can't we all be in sc2mafia team and invite some other forums to play with 50-50 player split? It would be interesting to see:P

Last time a few guys from other forums joined, some players here called them stupid or something (due to different playstyles), and they left...

    Why isn't this in circlejerk?

Go and play a shooter/rts/moba together and sign up for a league. Building teams for a FM game doesn't make much sense.

5 People team sign up in one game. Of course some of them will win and earn points. This will totaly average out in the end. The more people play the more points they get. Ladder ratings for FM games only tell you who plays the most and not how good they are.

Just imagine all the bias this will produce. So lets say teammate A is a killing neutral, now he has to decide who he kills at night. His choices are. Teammate B, Teammate C, Teammate D and random guy.
Of course he is going to kill the random guy to maximise the point outcome for his own team.

This will just generate a new terrible meta where people wont have as much fun as before.

Please keep your "social grouping" somewhere else.

I'm not sure how this would work without promoting, like others have said, a new meta wherein you're not playing to win so much as playing to maximize point gain. Interesting idea, but hard to implement in a non-detrimental way.

    Fantasy mafia league:

A draft with every active member of the site. Participating players draft FM players, adding them to their teams. (You can't draft yourself.)

Then the players on your fantasy team play FM for the season. Points are awarded in the same way as the current FM league and the player who drafted the best team wins.
    Like Fantasy Football, except mafia.
And if I die tomorrow, I'd be alright because I believe that after we're gone, the spirit carries on...

As stated in the OP. I would like ideas of how to successfully do it without the creation of bias. Bias is a frequent factor, so I'd like ideas of how to pull this off without an explosion of biases. If you do not think this is possible, please simply say that. It's not like you need to enlighten everyone else to the existence of bias as an idea.

For example, the limitation of this to M-FM and FMs would mean there would only be Anon accounts and people would have to track their teammates and enemies before they could have a chance to act on biases. Then, the discussion of how the points could be setup to allow the use of rivals. Defeating your rival teams would be valuable (if they were on the other side of the game), but winning with them on your own team would be more valuable. Your own teammates being a more neutral score. This makes rival teams both the enemy and a tool to utilize. Which would negate a flat stance on how you treat them. Score wise you want them on your side so you don't just go out of your way to kill them until you believe they are an enemy.

As well, my time hosting FM XIX proved that just about no one on site here can actually properly COM hunt. Thus the limitation of this game to strictly anon-games would naturally prevent the vast majority of the bias at the time of game, and only lead people to hope to win.

@Dagaen: I had first the idea to work with another site, but remembered the issue we ran into in Titus' S-FM Matrix in which Varsoon proved to be a strong player, but Elize struggled to post and play to the point that our style called for. For this reason I was looking at making it simply an Sc2 game since the change would be hard for people from other sites, or sending us to a different site would be difficult.

Since I've learnt about this today: perhaps make smaller teams (3-4 people max) and do normal setup but with Hydras. If every FM account would have 3-4 players behind them the idea of teams could work. The downside is that this would require at least 21 people for a simple 7 player game, so that's probably impossible to do.

As well as impossible, it would remove the factor of having to look for your allies.

I would be interested to see an S-FM where 2 people would share a role and feedback and such. Lynching one lynches the other, etc. 2 people playing the same character.

Sounds nice, although it looks hard to come with a feasible way to make it work.

An obvious downside for the M-FM/FM only rule is that some of the team members might not make it to the game. Hell, some teams might end with just one or two players being able to participate, while other teams would have all of their members in the game.

Team codes could be created to tell the COMs of the anon accounts.

I think your beloved Titus has (or had, I didn't log in to this account for the duration of the FM) a game like that in the queue.

Wasn't there one like this? I believe it was Explosive Collars, but it only applied to kills/lynches and links could be changed. I would definitely play something like that ^·^ it'd be like uber-student/Mentor link!

I tried this once. Problem was one group were used to making 50 posts a day and the other group were used to 14 day days and posting 2x every 48hr period. But not only did the second group 2 post little, they soon became overwhelemed by the sheer volume of content Group 1 was generating for them to read.

Really helps if everybody is on a similar page with regards to activity.

Lol yeah. That's one of the reasons I came back here. The FM activity is really high on sc2mafia, even if it's sometimes trolly.

I got conned into playing a game on one site that is still going 9 months later and we haven't even reached Day 3 yet. Days only end when somebody gets lynched, and there's no maximum time frame.
