    Post Future of SC2 Mafia

I have played Mafia exclusively for a long time now, with the exception of a family crisis that put me offline for a couple of months. I had a suggestion I wanted to post:

When will the standalone GUI version of SC2 Mafia be released and when can I start paying a monthly subscription? I feel that SC2 cannot do Mafia justice and it wouild seem you have enough knowledge on the team to accomplish this and enough fan support to make it survive.

From what I know, they don't have something like that planned. There was a completely different game (same basis, horrid gamestyle) that completely failed a month or so ago.

    Spoiler : FM History :
    KF S-FM (X) : Citizen (Lost, last to be lynched) | WD S-FM (XI) : Jailor : Lost | WFC SF-M (77) : Doctor : Won | SR SF-M (79) : Citizen : Killed N1 | Trust S-FM (80) : Exec. Lynched D1 | C S-FM (82) : Colonist/Armorsmith : Won | HotS S-FM (84) : Framer/Mafioso : Lost | SWT S-FM (85) : Citizen : Won | PC S-FM (86) : Manipulator : Won | DK2 S-FM (87) : Escort : Lost | FotNS (89) : Escort : Won | BCOWYL S-FM (91) : In Progress |

What do you mean when you said that it doesn't do it justice?

Besides trolls (which you'll find in any multiplayer game) and the connection issues (which are a Blizzard problem), the game looks pretty solid to me.
Of course it involves pretty different mechanics than those of your regular Mafia game (SC2 Mafia setups tend to be role madness/bastard), but that has more to do with daychat lasting a couple of minutes instead of one or more days.

About the project, I think that a solid and functional beta version could be accomplished in around six months if enough people can dedicate it a bit of their free time.

The easiest way I can think of would be to use an already-made service for online gaming. ie; a Flash application which uses Player.IO.

Well, by doesn't do it justice, i meant that a standalone could make it more enjoyable, possibly fix lag times, add more roles like the forum has, I think the game is pretty solid too and I agree it's mostly Blizzard's fault.

I'd like to see it happen, I think it would be nice.

Why not get the community together to draw you some graphics? Or there might be someone who can help with other stuff?

Start with the simple, Mafioso, Sheriff, Doctor, Citizen? And go from there?

having models for sheriff mafioso etc would give away the roles

globalgamers.net, join #mafia, and you will probably find people talking about random stuff (they do play mafia there though, sometimes)

I can help coding a Flash client if you want. Of course, that would limit the serverside code, since the only available services which I know are Player.IO (C#) and Gamooga (Lua). Player.IO is reliable. I only used gamooga once for a simple chat which never had more than 20 users, so I don't know much about it.

This support is exactly what I was talking about! But I was hoping for the producer's of SC2 Mafia to speak about it.

My vision (just for aesthetics) was to tie a small video of what happens every night to players with information that is already given. IE. A player is attacked at night with a pistol and lays down bleeding out as the assailant runs away. As the light fades from his body, he hears a rattling sound and a man comes out wearing white face paint in the shape of a skull on his head, shaking a cane at the player on the ground. After some chanting, the player rises from the ground, his eyes paler than normal, bows to the WD, then leaves the area. Begin D3 as cult!

I just thought that would be a great addition to something standalone and definitely the beginning of being sub worthy.

    Why do you say that?

I'm a bit known in a flash programming site where I might ask other programmers if they know any graphical artist who isn't asking for a fortune.

From what I've seen, there are many artists (especially those who are just starting to get known) who will work for a share of the revenue or for a pretty reasonable cost, since their main goal at the moment is to get known, and I bet that a free to play mafia app would be good for that.

Of course, the ideal would be to get people to do it just because they want to help.
For starters, some simple graphics should do it. It's not like we're trying to put together a AAA game here; from what I see, it's more of an app by the Mafia community and for the Mafia community. We shouldn't be worrying about having superb artwork and epic animations at this point.

For now let's just see how many people are willing to contribute, and if it seems like a feasible project, then you (the admins) could help spreading the word to see if we can get more people to help.

    Same.

Also just a word of advice, it won't work there have been several attempts before it always falls apart because of everyone having different ideas, time and money.

I feel like putting a chatbox on the top of the site and load up a modified Xylbot would do wonders.

EDIT: Oh, there /is/ a chatbox, and I didn't even know. Yeah, I think a mafiagame chatbox + a bot could work.

Heck, I think making a chatroom with globalgamers.net, then finding some way to load up Xylbot on it would basically be the equivalent of this.

Yeah. Not a big fan of Java. d:

It's cross-platform (Windows, Mac, Linix, BSD, etc.) and it is easy to create GUI objects in swing (on different OSes). I'm sorry but it is very backwards compatible, I don't know what your talking about... except maybe you computer just isn't running a good Operating System.

Also performance is not solely based on the programmer or the language.

Sorry but I say Java is the shiz nick. Oops wanna help me out? The graphics section is kinda outta my field. I don't see it going as far as animation, but dynamic scenes for certain actions might be possible from me.

Already did that at the beginning of the year with Oops' help. Registration requires a sc2mafia forum account so that they can be pseudo-linked for the time being.

This has been taking me too long, but I want to make sure I have everything in order before revealing anything.

Just wanted to pop in here , haven't played the SC2 version of this game for probably a year or 2.... I lol'ed at the email I got about a web version of this game.

Actually the reason I left the SC2 version, I liked the idea (and as a professional web programmer in 'real-life-n-stuff') I coded my own a while ago

Complete with win/loss recording, full user table integration into the main site (meaning rather than 2 logins, it would use your website's vbulletin login)

Fully customizable game characters, a memcached powered chatbox, structured staff, and a few other goofy features for lulz (like customizable death sounds at night if your account has enough points from playing, works like a shop with fake money)

    Re: Future of SC2 Mafia

i suppose technically haven't played since my old house which was somewhere near the end of 2012. pretty much the same month the mass murderer role was released, whenever that was.

I introduced a few new roles too like the thief, it doesn't have any actual purpose... kinda like a jester, but it can steal your money (points) each night. It also has a 'double or nothing' option @ start.

If the thief is hung, everyone gets their points back, but if the thief can somehow win, he gets everything from everyone
