Angel:
Affiliation: Neutral Benign
Summary: An Angel of the high heavens, filled with divinely inspired love for one player.
Goal: Given a random non-mayor target that she is ordered to protect from death at all costs. If the target is alive at the end of the game, she wins, whether she lives or dies. If the target dies, she loses.
Has night ability?: Yes
Abilities: Acts as a perpetual unstoppable doctor on the target, preventing them from dying from any means during the night while she is alive. A message is given to the would be killer telling them that their target is under divine protection. If the target is lynched, the Angel dies instead. Once per game, can choose to sacrifice her life to place the target in divine stasis (activates the night that the Angel dies by any means.) While in divine stasis, the target is role blocked, blackmailed, cannot be voted or killed, and does not stop any role from achieving win conditions. This reduces the votes required to lynch by the appropriate amount. If her target dies by suicide in terms of leaving the game, she loses her divine grace, becoming an amnesiac.
Type: Neutral Benign
Sheriff: Not Suspicious
Investigator: Survivor Witch Amnesiac Angel
Divine Statis explanation: ie if there was a Serial Killer, Godfather, Citizen, Veteran, and Angel, and the Angel's target was the Serial Killer, and the Godfather got lynched, she could sacrifice herself for the Serial Killer, giving the town the win the following morning. This does not earn the Serial Killer the win, and the ability to make deals with other factions that will cost her target the game makes her fall squarely into the Neutral Benign category. If the target, in Divine Stasis, is the last person alive, then the Angel is awarded the win.
This would be an interesting role to play around because although the target becomes unkillable without first killing the Angel, the target also never has to be killed, as whenever one faction gains the advantage the Angel can support them to a win, giving her target divine stasis on the turn that the leading faction would have no other opposition. Because of this, the Angel is not necessarily her targets ally, and doesn't serve entirely as a boon to whatever faction she is targeted to save. In this way, she is like the other neutral benign roles, generally able to support whichever team has taken the advantage, while being fresh and original through a unique win condition and interesting mechanics that are game changing to play with or against.
Angel would also be a reasonably safe claim for Witches and Amnesiacs who wish to fly below the radar, claiming that their target outed to them as town, allowing them more safety and being a neutral benign role that town would be less enthusiastic about lynching, as it could potentially be making one of their power roles unkillable.
Other interesting play:
A sheriff who found a Mafia member could claim to be an Angel on his guilty and ask for the identity of his other partners so he doesn't vote them up, then tell the town what he has found out!
4 way with a vigilante, sheriff, angel, and mafioso. Angel's target is Mafioso. Like other neutral benigns, she can decide the game at this stage; she can refuse to lynch, after which she can either sacrifice herself, giving town the win, or do nothing, giving maf the win if they kill. She can also push a lynch on herself or the mafioso, putting him into stasis and giving town the win.
TL;DR It's a fun and dynamic new role with many strategies to win that functions like other neutral benigns, able to decide the game outcome, and not necessarily in her target's favour. Although I'd assume most Angels would choose to support her target's faction if there was any way for that, because of all of that divinely inspired love Number one barrier to this role would be the implementation of win conditions potentially making this role impossible. It would also be kind of annoying to play against when the angel has not yet outed and the Jailor goes for an execute and gets frustrated because of the divine protection. But that ability, of course, isn't unique to Angels (cough cough Consort).
