How about a split-up? Oops can play with narks and all the other watched players, and the rest plays with Elixir. Plus, this negates your apprehensions about too many accusations to keep in mind, too many PMs to be send etc.

The rules and the role list are going to see a theme and mechanic shift. Something of interest is going to be the change in investigator mechanics. We both feel the 50% system is garbage and does not reward skill, and rather rewards luck. % based things in mafia do not work well, it will be very similar to the way sc2 investigations work.
