There was a lot more environmental awareness pushing by the Ontario Government, they even had great cartoon PSA's that detailed about not leaving the tap running while brushing teeth, and to conserve in other areas.

I emailed them the day before I travelled to Toronto, telling them I would be donating a tent, sleeping bag, and other shit they probably need. They didn't reply, so I went anyway - I wanted to see if they could influence change. The logistics there was very disorganized, and they couldn't find a volunteer willing to travel with me to pick up the stuff from my car. Anyway, I had to illegally (temporarily) park on the side of the park-side curb, and this volunteer helped me.

2 weeks later, I got a reply. Wow.

I don't miss the tent, I would rather get a better one.

But anyone who buys an iPhone, iPad, etc, agrees with how they mistreat Chinese workers in Foxconn's factories, the company that makes them for Apple. So yes, if you're going to make a statement, be true to yourself.
