►►Re: Max Cult Size Is Not Working As Intended With Triad Update◄◄

Although this is a bug, it may be worth considering not counting both Mafia AND Triad as mafia roles for the purpose of deciding the maximum cult size if both factions are in the game. If you have 6 mafia out of 15 players, max cult size would end up being 3. That seems pretty weak to me. Maybe only count the number of members of the largest of the two factions?

    ►►Re: The Problem of Evil◄◄

An omniscient being knows every way in which evils can come into existence.
An omnipotent being, who knows every way in which an evil can come into existence, has the power to prevent that evil from coming into existence.
You're making a leap in your logic here. While christianity might want to make its followers believe that God is all-powerful, it's not necessarily true even if he does exist.

A being who knows every way in which an evil can come into existence, who is able to prevent that evil from coming into existence, and who wants to do so, would prevent the existence of that evil.
As the faithful might argue, God doesn't intervene with any and all evil because one can't truly be good without ever having to face the temptation of evil (see: adam and eve). He doesn't command mankind with an iron fist, but leaves them to live free. Only to judge them after death. Additionally, redemption is a possibility in some cases even if evil is committed this way. Life is considered to be a test for what lies beyond.

If there exists an omnipotent, omniscient, and perfectly good being, then no evil exists.
If by good you mean an intolerant tyrant that allows its subjects no freedom whatsoever, then sure.

Like I said on the MFM setup you submitted:
The possible roles listing is a requirement. No exceptions.

Players need to know what's possible and what isn't, so they can use reasoning to determine what happened. This is a key element of forum mafia.

Edit GF rolecard to make it explicitly clear that recruitment requires targeting, and that it doesn't automatically succeed by choosing the role you want to recruit.

GF kill and Doctor are missing from the OoO.

Doctor doesn't prevent recruitment, does he?

Recommend moving Sheriff check after GF recruit in the OoO. Sheriff already has the challenge here that he's going to have to double check people and the game will be pretty short.

I do agree Escort is more destructive to the town than he's useful. But with a slightly increased chance of sheriff detection, an escort might be able to get a good block off.

I remember being completely frustrated with my lurking friends in the mafia and the early loss of one of the few allies that did have something to contribute. I felt rather powerless, but I still tried. I liked messing around with the bounties and the resulting jester lynch was hilarious. We should've started that sooner.

Also memorable is how badly all the scum managed to beat each other up. Even without the efforts of some of the town's players, town got a fairly easy pass to victory in this game if you ask me.

However, I may consider just having the witch/wizard's action ignored when targeting a bus driver, because this starts to look stupid.
Whatever you decide, make it clear how it works in your setup post.

    - At the start of Night 0 when everyone votes, they have already had their faction chosen.
    - They will receive a list of what they can vote on. Mafia can't vote Control because Town / Neutral.
    Yes, this would work well.

Would you want to keep all viable options open or only give each player a select few options, like in SFM amnesiac?

    - Should I remove the 2nd benign and make it a confirmed 7 town setup?
    This would be more balanced.

Spy and Thief might be better if they have an extra option to anonymously send their investigative feedback to another player of their choosing each night.

Must witch live to see the town lose as winning condition?

    - Host Meta: I will keep rolling until setup is legit : 2M/1NK/2NB/6T or 2M/1NK/1NB/7T

    How do you roll this?
How will you decide what players have to reroll if none of them exceed the limit of 2 per power?
Let's say 1 Killing, 1 Lunatic, 2 Support... (Mafioso, Arsonist, Consort & Survivor.)
It leans easier to scum if the setup can't get any legit combinations. (E.G Vigilante, Jester, Escort & Survivor)
This doesn't answer my question. If there are more than 7 town votes that meet the criteria of having different powers, how do you decide who gets to keep the role they voted for and who doesn't?

    Same for mafia.

Question: Should Kidnapper be able to be sendt for the kill if he jails?
    No.

Would an Arsonist burn players doused by a Pyro?
    No.
    Opinion: Should it be possible?
    Up to you.

If a detective targets a bus driver, what does he see?
The Detective will see the Bus Driver visiting his first target out of two.

If a witch/wizard targets a bus driver or jailor, what happens?
They will make the Bus Driver visit someone, but not actually changing the bus-swapping due to complex calculations.
So if a witch/wizard redirects a bus driver, they will perform 3 visits?

If a bus driver is forced to target a player they were already targeting with a swap and the spy targets that player, would the Spy see a double visit?

    - What is your opinion of changing a few Neutral Benign to Neutral Evil? Will it cause disbalance?
The balance is already shaky at best. If the last benign/town is a neutral, the town can lose their voting majority after the first night.

    2M/1NK/2NB/6T

    2 town deaths later

    2M/1NK/2NB/4T

More evil neutrals seems like a bad idea.

    - Neutral Benign will win with the winning faction.
    Must they survive?

    - Should a role have anything added? Buff, nerf?
Spy is severely gimped and thief isn't much better. If he does anything with his information he will just get killed and lose (if survival is part of his winning conditions).

Kidnapper looks fairly weak if the town uses their lynches. Maybe allow him to jail on lynch days, but not execute.

Vigilante is not particularly strong with all the vests and immunities unless it's intended as a detection role.

    Survivor looks quite strong.
Not sure how to tune it aside from making it a standard vest user.

    - Host Meta: I will keep rolling until setup is legit : 2M/1NK/2NB/6T or 2M/1NK/1NB/7T

Would an Arsonist burn players doused by a Pyro?

    - The Arsonist can undouse anyone including himself.
All at once or one at a time?

Is the thief informed what feedback was stolen and what feedback was targeted at himself?

What if redirection forces a thief to steal his own feedback?

If the bus driver is targeted directly by the escort he will otherwise he will not.
Your OoO suggests that he completely ignores roleblocks. Please specify that he isn't, for example by using brackets to indicate exceptions.

What does a lookout/detective see if they target the Veteran?

What does a detective see when his target is the bus driver?

Blackmails cannot force players to break forum or game rules.
Blackmails must provide all information required for the task.
Blackmails must consist of only one task.
What about: it must be possible for the target to complete their task. If conditions are set that are never met during the day or that only happen at the very end of the day when the target has no chance to respond anymore, it's hardly a fair task.

    Other than this, anything goes?
No approval by the host required? No speculation and endless arguments about what would or would not be allowed by the players?

Are there any restrictions attached the Courier's message?

    ►►Re: S-FM Power Gain◄◄

No one has a role at the start of game, so first I receive their votes and then I'll roll what respective factions they are part of.
Officialy, Night 0 can be seen as a Setup Phase while Day 1 is when the game truly starts, because there lacks night actions for N0.
Host meta however: A confirmed neutral killer will be included one way or another.
    This is not agreeable.

Using the mechanics and restrictions to role selection you have posted:
In this game, players can chose a Power.
There's a maximun two of each power, but all roles are unique.

If more than three votes for a power, random generation will occur.
Those that didn't make it for the vote of power, will have a random power that has either a single or none votes.

    Powers :
    - Game starts at Night 1, you must vote for the power. (No night actions N1)
    - Failing to vote will give a warning and a random power selection.
    - There's max of two of each power, but there's only max one of each role. (Mafia Excluded)
it's technically possible that no evils at all exist in the game.

You state that roles will only be randomised if there's more than 2 votes for their pairing or more than 1 of a role. But in order to force the faction composition you want, you may have to give someone a different role even if they would - according to the listed mechanics - be given the role that they voted for.

    Example:
    Sheriff
    Investigator
    Doctor
    Detective
    Pyro
    Vigilante
    Jailor
    Wizard
    Bus Driver
    Escort
    Survivor

In this list, all votes are legitimate within the established rules. It may not be entirely realistic to think that this will happen, but it's possible nonetheless.

Therefore, I suggest getting back on the idea to have everyone factionless at the start of the game, and assign everyone a faction before they can choose a role. And that they have to vote a role that matches their faction or have their role randomised if they don't.

These two lines contradict each other:
There's a maximun two of each power, but all roles are unique.

    If
more than three votes for a power, random generation will occur.
If there's a maximum of two, the second line should say "if more than two..." or "if three or more..."

If jailor and kidnapper jail the same target, do they get into a chat with all 3 of them or 2 separate chats?

Do investigator/consigliere see the target's exact powers or do they get to see Status/Investigation/Heal/Stalking/Lunatic/Killing/Jailing/Control/Confusion/Support?

Are there any actions a detective or spy don't see? Jailing for instance.

What feedback does a sheriff get if his target is a benign neutral?

What are the win conditions for Spy/Witch/Thief/Survivor?

Is the survivor permanently immune? i.e. he can only be lynched?

Can a Pyro only have one doused target at a time? Does he have to wait until his target dies to douse another?

    Is undousing possible?

Would an Arsonist burn players doused by a Pyro?

    - Mafia Killer: Sacrifices it's original role's night action to instead attack a target at night.

What original night action? Aren't they essentially a mafioso if they pick this?

Are there any death types that can't be healed?

Are there any attacks that ignore immunities?

    Can the Surgeon heal himself?

    Can Witch/Wizard cause self targets?

    - Wizard / Witch controls

    - Bus Driver switches
    - Framer... Frames
    - Thief visits
    - Uncertificated Bus Driver switches
    - Pyro douse

Meta is easier to use in smaller games with many PRs. I sometimes use it to guess peoples' roles based on who I would expect them to target under certain circumstances. In other words, where does the feedback come from? Why did this person die?

Once you've guessed someone's role/alignment correctly, you may be able to act accordingly and predict their future movements.

Of course there's a margin of error, but some players just tend to do what is expected, while others like to play risky. And some players will have tendencies to target certain other players first because they consider them to be "more important" than others.

Meta about peoples' writing styles and times and frequency of posting can be used to figure out hidden COM identities quite handily if you're playing with familiar players.

Meta is often the best way to catch ventriloquists/disguisers as well. Better even than using codes in some cases.

That said, I've reduced my use of meta significantly in more recent FMs, mainly because the fairly large influx of players I'm not as familiar with makes it less worthwhile.

    I have meta'd the hosts a bit though ;)

Let's say someone sleeps for 8 hours, does their daily routine of getting ready for work/school for an hour, works for 8 hours, then needs an hour to get back home and have dinner, which takes another hour or so.

You're looking at a window of ~18 hours there.

And there might even be more things to attend to in the evening hours, such as sports, visitors, etc.

Now if for example you live in the USA and want to end your days at midnight your time, it becomes nearly impossible for Europeans on a busy schedule to be online during those 12 hours of "twilight" after the day ends. This would make a European Governor entirely powerless.

In most cases, requirements to be online for a game should be in 24 hour periods at least to account for timezone differences. And sometimes that isn't even enough (mafia night chats with players who can't be online to talk to each other is a huge pain).

I do not think the cult stands any kind of chance like this unless the townies kill each other off or the cult gets really lucky with the spree killer's actions.

Are you completely against using the SC2 mafia cult limit mechanic? (get 1 extra recruit for every 2 cultists that die)

It would effectively only allow the cult to get one extra recruit after 2 of them die, but it ends there.

    blackmailer: The mafia silencer

    • each night you silence someone
    • the person may not speak, may post "I am Blackmailed" once
    • may vote 2 times (exceptions is hammer voitng, may make 3rd as hammer voter)
    • may be sent for kill at expense of night action
    What about unvoting?

Arsonist: you just want the world to burn

    • douse someone each night
    • dousing information is on
I see undousing and burning in the OoO, but they should also be mentioned here.

    Are players informed of undousing?

Does the arsonist visit anyone when he burns his victims? What does a detective/lookout see?

Can he only burn at night or also at day?

Must the arsonist choose to either douse, undouse or burn or can he use multiple?

Is there one night cooldown between undousing actions?

jester: in insane individual who wants to die

    • a guilty voter will die
    • grief can be healed
    • shows up citizen to wildcard
Is it a random guilty voter who dies or a specific one, such as the hammer vote?

Witch coming after escort/consort already means it's susceptible to roleblocks, so it doesn't have to be explicitly specified. Same is true for the bus driver (though it's useful to know witching also cancels bus driving rather than just redirecting one of his targets).

But can an escort/consort be witched? And are escort/consort and witch targets affected by bus driving?

Are there any visitation actions a detective/lookout can't see?

Journalist/corrupt journalist publishing article isn't in the OoO. Does this mean a journalist can still interview someone if they're jailed and does their article still appear if they are roleblocked in any way?

    survivor
executioner with win (must live to end)
jester (none must be standing and jester must of been lynched)
Having survivor, executioner and jester listed like this is very misleading. It implies that these roles can't win unless others above them lose. Unlike in SC2 mafia, there is no splash screen in forum mafia to make solo victories for these roles any different from winning alongside anyone else.

The need for more clarity is amplified by the fact that the jester and survivor win conditions aren't explicitly mentioned anywhere in the setup but here.

More thoroughly explained winning conditions, even just adding a note that they can win with anyone else, would be helpful.

Another thing with wildcard is that it was for me to kind of “loophole” more roles into the game (ie wildcard consig is like a town investigator, wildcard corrupt journal can double over as crier) im staying in the role limitations but just making the other roles fall into that role using mechanics
No loopholes please. You basically just have too many roles now.

An altered win condition if spawned from the wildcard is fine. But giving roles new mechanics and functions makes each a new role entirely.

This is the case for wildcard roles:
    jester
    executioner
arsonist (if you simply allow the arsonist to undouse, a town aligned arsonist can already save allies from his mistakes. Would be less overpowered without the "only kills town" rule too)
    blackmailer
    framer
    janitor

    What I recommend:

    - keep the wildcard amnesiac, but remove its ability to take a role mid-game (because this would also make the wildcard amnesiac himself a unique role, which makes you go over the limit)
    - allow default arsonist to undouse, one night cooldown. You don't need special rules for the "town arsonist"
    - add a separate list of roles wildcard amnesiac can take:

Possible wildcard roles: consigliere, doctor, coroner, sheriff, escort, lookout, detective, bus driver, journalist, citizen, witch, corrupt journalist, arsonist, survivor
Consort is redundant because of escort and from a town perspective there's no important roles the consort can block that the escort can't.

Exception to seeing jester/gf for consig is acceptable.

This also removes your weird "SK-that's-actually-another-role" that was originally there.

The possibility to take godfather or town killing roles is lost, but that's not that big of a deal because a killing option still exists, namely the arsonist.

    About lookout in OoO:
It's recommended to place him on the list in such a way that he sees any visitation actions that happen after his action

In your OoO, you could place him below escort/consort so that he doesn't see the jester troll visits and formulate an exception to point out he does see escort/consort movements if he isn't blocked.

Things like jailing, alerts and journalist interviews often yield no feedback for a detective or lookout.

If you place him at the end, I have to ask if there are any actions he doesn't see, because that way of doing things can't specify what actions are or aren't included in the lookout's feedback.

Unless you make it the exact opposite and make him see every movement before his action and not those afterwards. If that's the case here, write the lookout line in the OoO like this:

Lookout look (sees all visits up to and including other lookouts, not those afterwards)

    On BM options..
    claim a fake role
further specification: claim a role specified by the blackmailer and do not refute that claim or claim any other role on the same day.

    give fake feedback
Claim one night feedback message as specified by the blackmailer and do not refute that claim on the same day. "Claim that you were blackmailed" is also an option and it won't be punished.

    Other options:
Do not place a lynch vote on a player specified by the blackmailer for that day.

Don't claim any feedback that you received the night before.

I think the 12 hour twilight mechanic may create more significant inconvenience due to time zone differences than normal day/night scheduling already does.

Would you consider doing the following instead:
-lynching ends the day / starts the night (no twilight inbetween)
-the governor's action becomes a night action
-lynched target doesn't actually die until the start of the next day. Lynch death occurs at the start of the Order of Operations, so if someone was the victim of a lynch the day before (or the governor's lynch redirection), their night actions won't go through

    This has a few implications:
-Players won't be able to use "the flip" to decide their night actions. This shouldn't be that big of a problem however, as it only affects the sheriff check and the mafia night kill.
-Hammered mafia may still partake in their night chat the night after they get lynched (though you could simply add a clause that says they will be removed from their night chat if they got hammered.
-requires LESS moderation from you because the transitions from day to twilight and twilight to night would be gone

Please send me the "predetermined role sets" for each of the amnesiacs on the list in a PM.

Wildcard needs a LOT of additional explanation.

picking jester will reveal all the evils and mafias roles when lynched OR have one evil/mafia role suicide if they voted on you
Is this in addition to normal jester effects/win conditions?

picking executioner will make the target default to doc (kinda like lawyer)
Must he still lynch the doctor to win?

picking survivor is like cit but gets vests
    3 vests?

picking arson will allow you to douse people but will only burn evil roles*
    Is undousing targets possible?

picking serial killer will revert you to a doc
What's the point of picking SK instead of Doc then? Makes more sense if you just say "not allowed."

picking corrupt journalist will allow you to post articles for yourself
Can't interview others then? Why would anyone ever pick this and why would anyone ever trust a journalist interviewing them?

picking witch will make you witch but town aligned
Strictly town aligned or can win with anyone?

picking consigliere will make you be a town-like investigator but sees exact (GF and jester will show citizen)
What does "town-like" mean? And so it doesn't see exact roles?

framer will show you who your target visit as well as what the target did (ignores immunity)
Isn't this way too strong? It's basically a consigliere, but better.

Be warned taking on a mafia role will make you susceptible to riff detections
Please don't use the word "riff," because it isn't a word. Write the full word so no confusion can come of this.

    janitor: the mafia cleaner

    • each night clean a role and last will if they die
    • limit to 3 cleanings
    • may be sent for kill at expense of night action
    • may check already dead target to see last wills
Can the janitor read the last will of the targets he cleans the night they're killed?
Does checking a target for their last will use up a charge?

    blackmailer: The mafia silencer

    • each night you silence someone
    • the person may not speak, may post "I am Blackmailed"
    • may still vote
    • may be sent for kill at expense of night action
So the blackmailed target is free to communicate everything he knows through multiple choice questions asked by other players by saying "I am Blackmailed" X number of times or using votes on player A for answer A and player B for answer B, etc?

Sheriff: you are on the hunt for the mafia and evils

    • sees Mafia, serial killer, gunsmith, as evil
    • All others show not suspicious
    Gunsmith? What about Arsonist?

Please list the citizens on separate lines and remove the numbers for easier reading.

What text formatting should people use for lynch votes?

    5. The only game discussion should take place in the observer chat, in the thread, or in a mentor chat.
I assume by "mentor chat" you mean that the "mentor" isn't actually playing the game and that he can't distribute information between players who are in the game, correct?

    One-Shot Governor
After the lynch and before the role flip, you can either stop the lynch or overturn it to someone else. This is one shot.
Can you explain how exactly this role works?

Does the day not end after a lynch? When does the "role flip" happen?

By "overturn," do you mean he single-handedly picks a different target and that person gets lynched instead?

What happens if people hammer vote just before the deadline so the Governor doesn't get the chance to submit his action?

What if the governor simply can't be online around the time the day ends?

    Lookout:
    Visit one person each night
Get feedback of everyone who visit your target
Does this mean the lookout sees what feedback his target gets? Or does he see who visits his target?

Are there any night actions in the OoO that the Lookout can not see? It being at the end of the OoO obfuscates this information. See the setup requirements post for tips.

    Blackmailer
Blackmail a person to do any actions you want them to do
    Examples
Do not speak today/claim a fake role/give fake feedback
You can do many different kind of blackmails, just pm the host the blackmail, host can deny the blackmail if it can break the game
Suicide if reveal blackmails while blackmailed
For SFM (and arguably for any FM) it might be better to restrict the blackmail tasks to predefined options. Otherwise you're making up the rules as you go and that's usually bad for the game. Keep it simple.

Also, does the target suicide if they do not complete their task the day after the blackmail? Or what are the repercussions?

    Janitor
Clean a target to prevent the town seeing his role and last will
    Have 3 cleanings
    OR
Mass clean everyone who will die this night(useful if jester got lynched and half of town will suicide)
    Have one cleaning
Cannot do both kind of cleaning
Once you clean a single target, you cannot use mass cleaning
Just to be explicitly clear, is the opposite also true? i.e. if the janitor ever uses mass cleaning, can he or can he not perform single target cleans after that?

Jesters - Be the first one to get lynched
Does this mean be the first jester to get lynched or the first player to get lynched?

If the mafioso dies, can other mafia roles still choose to kill OR perform their old action or do they become a mafioso?
