    ►►Clan Officer Rules◄◄

Congratulations on being selected to be an Sc2Maf officer!

With great power comes great responsibility. Please adhere to these following rules:

All officers must strive to promote the community by resolving problems, building positive relations, and recruiting good players.

    1. All officers must respect the decisions and punishments of the reports generated against them without causing problems in the community.

    2. Any officer receiving a punishable report to the forums other than a warning will be immediately demoted to normal clan member. Any officer receiving a Ban of any type on the forum will immediately be removed from the clan.

    3. As an officer, you should work to minimize conflict (drama) by not causing such conflict and mediating conflict caused by others.

    4. If you have a problem with the way the community is run, please constructively discuss the problem without causing drama. We will strive to promote freedom of expression in this Clan subforum by moderating only the most exceptional posts.

Thank you for volunteering to help make this community better!

Also, Benigns are pieces of shit and should be killed.

The problem w/ Sen's chart is that it doesn't take into account games where it's impossible for a team to win due to absence from game. A SK can't win if there is no SK in the game. You can see that this is the case as the total % is 100%.
Yes, I retract my previous idea about losing points for killing neutrals -- it was a terrible idea.
However, there's some underlying premises that I would like to clear up before scheming:
The meta inevitably will change because the incentives are different. For normal mafia, several parties can be winners, but there can only be one winner in the tourney. This almost always happens under a tourney structure. Even in SC2, people play tournaments differently, using more risk. In a normal ladder game, it's about risk-averse play because you want to maximize long-run wins. In tourneys, players tend to do all-in strategies, or deviate from normal play, because it's all about taking down the opponent to stay alive in the tournament. So basically, tourney structures will change the way people play, I think some kind of protection scheme could help mitigate the changed meta from the tourney structure.

Therefore, neutrals will likely be targeted once the outcome is clear. In terms of meta, without a neutral protection rule, rational neutrals should always side with town given ambiguity, because mafia always has the incentive to kill non-mafias before taking the win. I can think of two solutions:

    a. Abandon attempts to incentivize and give points to neutrals for losing, sort of as a bye, because being neutral is practically an autoloss.

    b. Try to change the incentive structure by rewarding extra points for keeping certain neutrals alive. I think in this scenario, there's an incentive to keep neutrals alive, which gives neutrals a chance, making it a more fun game for the neutrals. Here, I'm trying to undo the damage against the neutrals because of the tourney structure.

Whatever the choice, I'll defer to you guys since you all likely have more experience than me.

I understand that Sen's chart isn't useful when scrutinized in specificity, but it gives me a rough guideline, e.g., neutrals win about 20% of the time. I was also trying to make Sen feel good

Thank you Sen, that chart really helps give some insight on the probability of winning.
Maybe I should impose a penalty for killing a neutral, either by lynch or murder. For benign, both mafia and town get point reduction, for evil, only mafia gets a point reduction.

I would need to figure out how to differentiate between town/mafia without requiring too much administrative workload. I feel inclined to not use points for specific roles for town/mafia, because it detracts from "skill" to put more weight on "luck." Maybe I could reward points for successful mafia identification/lynches(mayor/marshal)/executions, but that adds to the administrative burden. Alternatively, I could just split payment among the winners, or use a death match to end draws. Maybe night immune arson, jester, and non-night immune GF, for example.

So do you think that, if the points were proportional to the likelihood of winning, the score system outlined above is fair? If that's the case, the focus should then fix to the point allocation. If you think the idea is still shitty in general, then I need to revise my approach and go back to the drawing board.

That trade deficit/foreign debt is NOTHING to fear.
    a) It will correct in the next couple of decades anyway
    b) It doesn't mean we're weak, it means we're strong (it's like they're paying homage to us and we're forcing them to carry us)
    c) In a multi-party nation state system, the complex web of political, military, and economic ties CREATES stability. The more ties, the more each state has to lose if ties are severed. (Deficit and debt = stability)
I think there's some merit to the idea that depending on Chinese industries, rather than US industries, would transfer more wealth to the Chinese rather than the US, although the overall wealth generated between both countries will probably be higher by depending on the Chinese industries. What is problematic with Trump's argument is that he overlooks the benefits derived from the trade with the PRC. By purchasing Chinese products at a very low price, corporations save fortunes, where the benefits are passed on indirectly to both the consumers and the suppliers. It's axiomatic for costs, and prices, to go up if the US had to substitute cheap Chinese labor with expensive American labor.

I wish I had the data for that. What I ideally wanted to do is factor the points by the likely expectation of the role winning, given that all else is equal. The above is my crude attempt to try to create that metric, which obviously didn't end up so well.

I was considering making the number of games higher, say 5 or 7, but it would take too long.

    ►►Rebooting Weekly Tourneys ◄◄

I'm thinking about rebooting the weekly tourneys. I decided to make it more simpler so that it's more easy to manage by those running the tourney. Your feedback would definitely be appreciated.

    Plan
Tourney Host will decide on the specific roles and their limitations and will play the tournament. The tournament is composed of three consecutive games at a designated time on the US server.

    Winning
The winner will be the one who accumulates the most points during the three games. Rather than using an overly complicated scoring system, the points will be awarded based on their role. Generally, the harder the role, the more points they are rewarded for winning or losing. There won't be individual scoring or anything -- it is simply a results-based approach. This is to alleviate administrative headache.

    Point distribution [Win/Loss]
    Town: 100/0
    Mafia/Triad: 100/0
    Survivor: 150/50
    Jester: 100/0
    Executioner: 100/0
    Amnesiac: 100/0
    Serial Killer: 150/50
    Arsonist: 200/50
    MM: 150/50
    Judge: 150/50
    Witch: 200/50
    Auditor: 200/50

    Award
To be determined, but probably around 5-10 dollar range.

So, what do you guys and gals think of this approach?

Just because some evidence supports that it is not reliable does not make it unreliable. There are two sides to the story:
    https://epm.sagepub.com/content/46/3/745
    https://epm.sagepub.com/content/62/4/590

Also, your articles do not dismiss the MBTI as pseudoscience, it merely states that it does not warrant its use in the organizational setting because of lack of sufficient research. Also, take another look at my claim: "I think it deserves at least some merit." None of your articles dismisses it as pseudoscience and simply highlights certain problems of the MBTI, including re-test reliability or causal relationship between the indicator and the behavior. The strongest conclusion that your articles seem to draw is that its prevalent use in the organizational setting is not warranted because of the "questionable" results. Even the authors of your articles suggest that it warrants further study.

Thus, you were stating an opinion, and an incorrect opinion at that, and misusing the results of the studies in hopes that the readers will be duped and warded off by long articles.

But with that being said, they were good articles, although I feel that their conclusions were not sufficiently backed by the data.

I disagree. As long as there is a correlation between the classification and the behaviors observed, I think it deserves at least some merit. Furthermore, the general categorizations help give guidance on how to initially interact with the individual, which could reduce conflict.

Astrology, on the other hand, does not help predict a person's behavior (or at least there aren't any studies suggesting this), or has any other use (except maybe to interact with girls), which makes it pseudoscience.

The goal is to punish them for inappropriate actions (like gamethrow, leavetrain, etc) without doing any work on my part. Psychologically, the wrongdoers get concerned that they will get banned or sanctioned (albeit not effective all the time). Having to create an account and search the forums takes up their time and effort that could be better spent playing SC2. Finally, this forum gets more recognition through increased awareness.

Best of all, I can do this with an empty threat, rather than going through the cumbersome process of creating a file report. When they fail to find the report, they sit in trepidation awaiting for the report to be filed. In ways, the anxiety of waiting may punish them more than an actual sanction (which often amounts to a watchlist/slap on the wrist). But if you guys really want me to stop doing this, then I can stop. However, I do want to note that the vast majority of those I threaten tend to be actual rule breakers who in fact should be reported.

So I guess I should say a few things about myself.

My name is Renata, I'm 27 years old and live with my foster family in a Canadian small town. Ever since I was a child I've had a knack for computers and it's safe to say I spent more time growing up in cyberspace than anywhere else, where I developed a passion for online gaming through the blizzard classics (SC:BW, D1&D2, WCIII and later on WoW). Despite having little to complain about, I find myself at a general dissatisfaction towards life partly due to it's unanswered questions and the fact it always ends in death. I'm a strong believer in personal freedom, individualism and against parentalism. Been playing sc2Mafia for about a year and half now and never once considered switching to town of salem or thought about trying forum mafia, really stepped up my game these past few months as a means to keep myself distracted from some really harsh difficulties and the binge has proven itself quite effective. This year however, I plan to cut back so I can focus and allocate more time for the other aspects of my life. I can be real lazy so you have more chance to reach me on sc2 than catching me online in the forums. Other than Mafia and Arcade I enjoy Single Player RPGs and online sandbox games like Minecraft and Rust.

Nice to meet y'all, hope we Mafia soon!

Well, maybe in the old days. The only thing that looked the same were the bunk beds and structure. Nowadays, leaders may not lay a finger on their soldiers to punish them. They're also told not to curse, as it detracts from professionalism.

Of course, some of the culture as seen in Full Metal Jacket lives on, but is largely dead now.

But thanks for the tip. If we ever need to kill American soldiers, we just call them bad names until they shoot themselves.
Oops is just an inevitable part of having a ridiculously large organization. Remember all the Oops caused by Brit soldiers back when Britain used to be great?

I don't mean to be so solemn about this, but I just wanted to give my 2 cents. Upsetting words and insults may seem trivial and be something a person should not take too seriously, but it does lead to very serious consequences in certain cases.

I spent four years in the military and we are actually trained to avoid being poisonous leaders. Poisonous leadership is where, in mafia language, a leader trolls the hell out of someone in order to instill discipline and control. The military focused on discouraging poisonous leadership because it lead to demoralization, which undermined unit cohesion. Furthermore, soldiers would commit suicide or deliberately insubordinate in some situations, undermining the mission. People reacting so poorly because of harsh words may have been unthinkable in WWII or Vietnam (because profanity was the norm back then, and people were probably tougher from their horrible living conditions), but at this day and age, harsh words do have a substantial effect on people.

Sure, you may feel inclined to think that the trolled are being too effeminate and should "man up." However, real soldiers, who get into fire fights, those who we would consider to be one of the bravest and toughened in the world, are still affected by harsh words. So can you really blame an effeminate gaming geek for wanting to commit suicide after Bruno says nasty things to him?

As the entire Mafia committee knows, I am probably one of the most mannered, courteous Mafia players out there. Great attitudes and motivating words build a stronger, bigger community. I urge others to join me in making Mafia a better community.

    is a benefactor, has moderator.

judging by this, we can assume moderator costs at least $100, so ya you can buy moderator for around $100.

also includes a free sub-forum no extra cost!
I played this game a lot during WoL, and I do have another account on this site. I just made "Water" to make sure it reflects my in-game name recently. I believe I registered back in 2011.

I think they should reward bonus points for winning with less people. It makes the game exciting... the backstabbing, the uncertainty, the dubious alliances. This game thrives on upset, vengeful players. It's a game of troll. I don't know why we would want to promote predictability and happiness.

I actually do that all the time. Claim evil neutral so they don't attack you. In fact I remember a game where I was SK with 1 witch and two triads. I claimed witch and they lynched the actual witch.

I think it'll be too overpowered for triad. In effect, one ConArtist = 2-3 triads. This is even more powerful than disguiser that can kill 2 people because it leaves the original intact. Imagine a game with an interrogator or another conartist: N1: exe, convert, DH kills -> 3 townies dead, 1 extra triad -> 4 triad 6 townies. Misinformation/false accusation for random lynch D2 -> triad has majority D3. Neutral killing also makes it worse because, by chance, it's more likely he'll hit a town. Once triad has majority, it becomes easy to wipe out everyone else because they know conclusively who is on their side.

I mean, we all get frustrated. I wish stalkers did AOE damage vs mutas. However, it would probably upset everyone else... sometimes it's not about the balancing but about getting better at the game.

I think the best places to place the SC2mafia.com, along with the M-FM information is during setup and at night sequence. Maybe make it into a gif-like form where it alternates to whatever you guys want to brainwash the players with.

After all, it's often the more boring parts of the game because you expend 1 or 2 clicks within the 1 full minute that you have. Then you just stare at a dark screen and wait for day.

Also I will need moderator so I can moderate it like Water, hopefully that can be arranged. We do have goals as gay mafia players, and that is to be competitive. We are competitive players on this RNG luck based game so we hope to get this sub-forum because we have such goals in mind. If you are a fellow gay mafia player and looking to be competitive, just type /sign on this thread if you want the sub-forum. Thanks for all the support gay mafia players!!

My concern is that this isn't truly a legitimate request. LGBT advocates generally use LGBT to describe lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgendered individuals, along with their interests. Considering how this individual does not seem to be able to distinguish or recognize the difference suggests that he is not in fact bisexual, nor has actual interest in furthering LGBT goals. If he even had a minutia of genuine interest, he probably would have looked up the difference between gay and bisexual, appreciated the difference, and adopted the commonly-used LGBT language.

I have never met an LGBT advocate who uses gay and bi-sexual interchangeably. Furthermore, I'm sure such insensitive use of words would offend certain people. I imagine it's analogous to saying something like, "chinese, japanese, vietnamese... who cares? they're all the same thing anyways"

This is clearly distinguished from fl0w because we have a legitimate interest with concrete, justifiable objectives that satisfy the desires of many current mafia players. This is demonstrated by the fact that we were able to gather less than 30 members in just a week. We will probably cap out within the next two as we expand our awareness and clan operations.
