View Full Version : CHEATERS! SFM

BorkBot
July 10th, 2012, 09:40 PM
Description:
A seemingly standard/random game of mafia, but there are cheaters in play! To be more specific, a skype group and a roles list hacker. Your average player doesn't care about cheaters and can win as normal, but there are a few purists who must see all cheaters eliminated before the game is over or they will lose!

Roles:
Random Mafia
Random Mafia
Random Mafia
Random Mafia
Random Neutral
Random Town

Citizen

Random Mafia: Godfather, Mafioso, Actress, Consigliere, Consort, Framer, Grave Robber, Janitor
Random Neutral: Executioner, Jester, Witch, Serial Killer, Arsonist
Random Town: Armoursmith, Bodyguard, Bus Driver, Coroner, Mortician, Detective, Doctor, Medical Student, Escort, Gunsmith, Investigator, Jailor, Journalist, Lookout, Sane/Insane Sheriff, Veteran, Vigilante

Special Mechanics

The Skype Group
3 players on the list will be randomly chosen to be part of the skype group. They will receive access to a hidden chat that stays open at all times. Players in the skype group can be of any alignment and don't necessarily win together unless they can do so normally OR if they are the last men standing together. They are not aware of each other's roles or identities in the game.

The Roles List Hacker
1 player is randomly chosen to be the Roles List Hacker. The Roles List Hacker receives the entire roles list at the start of the game, though he doesn't know which player has which role. The hacker is randomly chosen, but for balance reasons they can't be part of the Skype Group.

The Purists
4 players on the list will be randomly chosen to be Purists. These players can only win when all cheaters are eliminated and their normal victory conditions apply as well. If any side wins the game normally before all cheaters are dead, they will lose. Purists have the option to forsake their night action to scrutinise a player for malign activity. If the target is part of the Skype Group or a Roles List Hacker, the Purist will find out! This action can't be detected in any way, nor is it affected by roleblocks, bus driving or witch manipulation. Obviously, the purists are too good to be cheaters at the same time.

The Moderator
One of the 4 purists is randomly chosen to be the Moderator. The Moderator has the power to ban 1 player at any point in the game. If it turns out that the target was not a cheater, the Moderator will commit suicide and lose the game.

Qualifications:
SFM III and MFM VI

Rules/Regulations:
Only use the supplied channels to communicate about the game. No PMs, feedback messages, skype, etc. Even if you're a cheater, you must cheat according to the rules of this game! Skypers will only "skype" on the forum that's provided to them.

PM your night action targets to me before the deadline, even if you're mafia. Besides the vote for who gets to perform the night kill, all night action submissions will be hidden.

Don't edit posts in day chat.

Excessive lurking will result in a warning at the end of the day. If the same player lurks again on any other day, they will be replaced.

Cause of death will be hidden. At the start of the day, you will only be informed of who died at night and not what killed them.

Q&A:

If a person in the Skype Group dies, do they still have access to the chat and are able to talk to other members in the chat?
Yes.

Can a cheater win if a Purist is alive?
Yes

Can a Mafia in the skype chat tell the other members that he is in the skype chat, and, if it turns out, that one of the mafia members is also a purist, can the mafia member in the skype -suicide in order to allow all members of the mafia to win
Yes and yes.

Does the hacker's role list include if people are skypers or purists?
Nope, he doesn't know what roles are skypers/purists.

Would the hacker's role list also differentiate between sheriff/insane sheriff?
Yes it would. Same for doctor/medical student.

Does the moderator have the ability to detect cheating as well as banning?
Yes, he is able to do both.

Can a moderator ban a dead player?
Nope, and it wouldn't have any effect (they are still part of the dead chat and such). The ban is symbolical :D

Does the hacker only need to play out his objective of his role to win?
Yes.

Does a cheater automatically lose if he gets banned?
No, he just dies. It's more of a modkill really, but a ban sounds more threatening!

Rolecards:

Godfather
You're the boss. You have the final say in who gets to perform the night kill.

You have immunity to night kills.

Mafioso
You're just a goon. You have no abilities besides being available to be sent for the night kill.

Actress
You can act like someone else at night and appear like you have their role to investigators. Your role stays the same until you decide to act like someone else. If you die, your false role will show up in the graveyard.

Sheriffs will still be able to distinguish you as a suspicious target.

Can target dead people.

Consigliere
You can investigate someone at night to see what their role might be.

Consort
You can block someone at night.

Framer
You can frame someone to look scummy at night. This will give the opposite result to sheriffs and an investigation pairing of the framer's choosing to investigators. Does not affect lookouts or detectives.

Grave Robber
You can loot a dead person and on following nights you can use the stuff you steal from them to copy their night actions. The stuff you stole can be used twice.

Looting a jailor or journalist doesn't work because you can't steal a jail or a printing press from their corpse.

Janitor
You can sanitise a target at night. If they die that same night, their role and last will will be hidden. You do not get to read their last will.

You have 2 cleanings.

Executioner
You can bother a target at night to give them an annoying message. Your goal is to see your appointed target lynched during the day.

You have night immunity and your target can be of any alignment.

Jester
You can bother a target at night to give them an annoying message. Your goal is to get lynched during the day. If you are lynched, one random voter will commit suicide the next night.

You start with a one-charge vest that gives night immunity when you use it.

Witch
You can manipulate a target at night to make them visit a target of your choosing. Your goal is to survive until the end.

You can win with either faction and there are no feedback messages for manipulation. Can cause self targeting.

Serial Killer
You can kill a target each night. Your goal is to survive until the end and see the town lose.

You have night immunity. Kills roleblockers.

Arsonist
You can douse a target each night OR incinerate all your previously doused victims. Incinerated targets are hidden in the graveyard and their last will won't be shown. Your goal is to survive until the end and see the town lose.

You have night immunity and there are no feedback messages for dousing. Incineration ignores immunity.

Armoursmith
May give armour to a targeted player each night.

Single use vests like those of a survivor (+1) which can be activated alongside other night actions.

Gunsmith
May give a gun to a targeted player each night.

Single use guns (-1) which can be activated alongside other night actions.

Bodyguard
Can protect a player each night (+1) and kills their assailant (-1), but dies in the process.

Can be healed. Ignores night immunity.

Bus Driver
Can drive two players to redirect actions used against them.

Can target self.

Coroner
May inspect a dead player to see a list of all their night actions.

Also discovers death type, real role and last will.

Mortician
May inspect a dead player to see what actions were performed on them (converted, healed, manipulated, etc). The nights on which these actions occurred are revealed as well.

Also discovers death type, real role and last will.

Detective
May track a player to see who they visit at night.

Doctor/Medical Student
May heal (+1) a target player to save them from death.

Every other night, a medical student will roleblock their target instead of healing them. (1st night = heal, 2nd night = block, 3rd night = heal etc, or the other way around)
If a night action is skipped, the action will still change the next night. (1st night = block, 2nd night = skip, 3rd night = block again).

A doctor/medical student won't be informed which of the two roles he is.

Escort
You can block someone at night.

Investigator
You can investigate someone at night to see what their role might be.

Jailor
Can choose a player to jail during the day. At night, the jailor will have a chat with the player they jailed. They can execute the player if they choose to.

The jailed target is perfectly roleblocked and has night immunity. Jailing only proceeds after a no lynch. 3 executions.

Journalist
During the day, may choose a person to interview at night.

The targeted player will be able write an article and send it to the GM in a PM. It will be posted the following day as a news article.

The journalist may choose to submit an article to be posted alongside his interview.

Lookout
May watch a player each night to see their visitors. May also watch dead players.

Sane/Insane Sheriff
May check one player at night to see if they are suspicious or not.

An Insane Sheriff will see suspicious people as not suspicious and vice versa.

A Sane/Insane sheriff won't be informed which of the two roles he is.

Veteran
You can go on alert at night to kill all those pesky visitors.

Going on alert grants night immunity. Your kills ignore night immunity. You have 3 alerts.

Vigilante
You can kill someone at night. You have 3 shots.

Citizen
You are very important! Or so you think.

Rolecard Addendum:

Skype Group Member
You're part of the Skype Group! You get to chat with your fellow skypers day and night.

You can choose to ignore your normal victory conditions and try to win by having only Skypers left alive at the end of the game.

This action can't be detected in any way, nor is it affected by roleblocks, bus driving, witch manipulation or veteran alerts.

Moderator
You are the moderator! A force to be reckoned with, for sure! You have the power to ban 1 player at any point in the game (PM the host to do this). A banned player will die and go into the graveyard instantly. If it turns out that they were not a cheater, you will commit suicide and lose the game.

Does the hacker's role list include if people are skypers or purists?

Aka something like:
Godfather
Mafioso (skyper)
Consigliere
Framer (purist)
Witch
Armorsmith (hacker)
Mortician (purist)
Doctor
Escort (skyper)
Investigator (purist)
Bus Driver (purist)
Sheriff/Insane Sheriff (skyper)
Vigilante

Would the hacker's role list also differentiate between sheriff/insane sheriff?

Now that I think about this, it's technically not an S-FM. It's not really simple per se....

But it is short

S-FM = Simple Forum Mafia
not small
not sucky
not super

Simple. This would more likely be an M-FM that is just a smaller game.

You can make an S-FM short if you want. But the meaning does not chance that it stands as "Simple Forum Mafia". Perhaps this would be a part of the experimentation and such that can be applied to M-FMs and perhaps the FMs as well.

BorkBot
July 23rd, 2012, 10:51 PM
Yeah, I expect I'm just going to have to wait until the current batch of SFMs is nearing completion.

As for the setup, it has no unique roles (just a couple of non standard ones that are copy pasted from the MFM boards), a few nuances to victory conditions added on top and some meta actions for the purists. You don't need to know or understand the mechanics of the cheaters vs purists bit in order to play besides how it affects your victory conditions if you're a purist.

It's not much more complicated than my first SFM was and much less complicated/experimental than most MFMs, I'd say.

I dub it a FSFM (fairly simple forum mafia). I wouldn't want to make an MFM out of this because I expect quite a bit of trolling and messing around for kicks and giggles, and the MFM hosting slot shouldn't be taken by such a game. It's intended to be short like Creed says, and a wee bit crazy :S

Blazer
July 23rd, 2012, 11:02 PM
Lol. Yeah the only thing holding it back might just be Luna waiting to get on and also just a couple more S-FMs getting closed up and moved. If I had to guess, this setup will have an answer soon ^^
