View Full Version : The Donor Thank-You Thread!

Thank you so much for over 400 donations!!!

If you don't want your name or amount here, message me right away and I'll obfuscate it.

Since there were so many donations, I had to put it in a Google Document:

Click here for Donor List (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Ag0cIjzRjqaSdDNXYnkxTzdlTFN3Y1hXbmI0MnVTU Xc#gid=0)

I am honestly blown away by the amount of support I have gotten. I don't know of any other StarCraft 2 mod that can claim to have such a wonderful core community. Mafia has earned, from donations alone, more than most other big StarCraft 2 maps combined. I am truly blessed to have such an honor. No matter what you say about the noobs and trolls plaguing the public games of Mafia, you guys are still special to me.

I should donate exactly $52.47 :) When I get money, I promise I'll donate.

I honestly did not expect that you were getting nearly 1k for your effort. Great work DR. The game is awesome and we will continue to support it.

Great work community!!!

You are going to have to add the money that paypal steals :P unless someone else wants to do that. Also you are very welcome for the support I gave you DR and so far I love the perks :) Especially the colored names even though if I play a public game I usually die night one by the jealous asshole serial killer :(

No thanks necessary, a small monetary donation is nothing in comparison to the hours of gameplay you've offered me. I've played Mafia more than SC2.

And I know I thanked you before, but I'll do it again. Please continue doing what you do.

Thank YOU, DR, for all your hard work on this wonderful game!! ;D

I love the "PayPal taken" stat as well; that was a funny factoid.

(And also, OMG, Plato, you stole the #1 spot. How much do I have to donate to beat Plato? >:( If that's too personal of a question, how about: "How much to qualify for Benefactor?" LOL.)

Dark.Revenant
July 6th, 2011, 01:55 PM
Your wallet doesn't want you to try to challenge Plato's spot.

Patron: Half of your original donation.
Benefactor: Double your original donation.

The denominations are pretty brutal, I'd admit.

Dark.Revenant
July 6th, 2011, 10:52 PM
Edited with the exact amount PayPal has taken. That took a bit of calculation and archive-digging, as rates differ for international donations. Also added an interesting factoid.

Edited with the exact amount PayPal has taken. That took a bit of calculation and archive-digging, as rates differ for international donations. Also added an interesting factoid.

Fun Fact: Without Plato's donation, the global average is $10.74 and the international average is $8.53!

So Plato spend about 330 US$ ? O.o this is like how many times the price of SC2?

So Plato spend about 330 US$ ? O.o this is like how many times the price of SC2?

Let's see...do a little algebra, cross multiply, and.. EEK, $334!!

Okay, time to get out my piggy bank to save up to beat his donation and reclaim the #1 spot!

FWIW, my original donation was about 1 time the price of SC2 (Collectors) because Mafia is basically all I play on SC2 now, and I wanted DR to get as much as Blizz got from me.

AdmiralCain
July 8th, 2011, 05:01 AM
From now on Plato donates the amount that matches the date:

E.g. today is July 8 (UK time). So he donates $78.

1. Are you Plato?
2. If so, starting on July 10, can we expect three-digit donations from you ($710+) each day? :D

AdmiralCain
July 8th, 2011, 05:26 AM
The maximum that Plato could donate then is $1231.

Yes, $1231 would be the maximum Plato could donate on one day, 12/31. But from now until 12/31 it would probably add up to roughly...$120,000 or so, minus any days on which he forgets.

Before restarting the cycle at $11 on 1/1.

SilentShadow
July 8th, 2011, 09:50 AM
Why doesn't he just pay him a penny a day and double the amount each day for a month straight.

Dark.Revenant
July 8th, 2011, 01:30 PM
Even a billionaire would be broke in a few months at that rate.

AdmiralCain
July 8th, 2011, 02:14 PM
Plato wants his blog [redacted] to be permanently on the front page of every Mafia game, otherwise he wants full refund of his donations to DR.

This is a joke, right? Or just free advertising here in the forum post? :P

AdmiralCain
July 8th, 2011, 02:27 PM
No joke, DR gets 8 hours max to do this.

Come on, that's not reasonable. A condition such as this one should be specified in advance of the donation and agreed to, not named after the donation.

I suppose it might be reasonable going forward if Plato is really planning to donate ~$140,000 a year, though. But is Plato serious about donating the date in dollars each day (as outlined above, up to $1231 on 12/31)? And is he planning to donate every day / almost every day? Because I was going to try to match Plato's donation, but there's no way I can match $140,000 per year so if that is the case I won't attempt it.

However, I would suggest to DR not to advertise a requested website on the first page of every Mafia game unless the sponsor commits to a large, regular donation in a written agreement--such a case should be treated as an advertising contract, not an ordinary donation, because of the high-publicity advertising that the sponsor is requesting.

Dark.Revenant
July 8th, 2011, 02:43 PM
It's simple enough to put on US, but I don't know if it will be uploaded to EU in 8 hours.

Also, I'm not sure what you mean by having your website on the loading screen. You mean a link / icon with "Plato's Blog" as a title?

Dark.Revenant
July 8th, 2011, 03:02 PM
You only needed to ask. I mean, I already have Revoki on there so this is very reasonable for me to do for a big donor.

Rumpel1408
July 8th, 2011, 03:35 PM
I would not have a problem with a hint for Platos blog... If it helps him to find a publisher for his lyrics (in case he does not have one yet) I'm sure he would ad a lyric to promote Mafia :D

Also I think we have to honor Plato cause he's probably the one who will prevent Mafia to appear in Blizzard Marketplace...

Dark.Revenant
July 8th, 2011, 03:36 PM
Mafia isn't going to be something you have to pay for to play. I've made this clear on many occasions.

Anyway, your request is implemented on US and will probably be on EU tonight. If not, it will be on EU tomorrow afternoon.

BTW what's Revoki? (I'm on vacation now with no SC, so the last version of the Mafia game I saw had no links to anything on it).

There you go. Am I 100th? :)

Apparently, Amazon took fees a grand total of $0.00!

Dark.Revenant

That was fast.

Also, yes. Congratulations!

Graham

Congratulations too, for making this wonderful map and attracting 100 donors within weeks!

Edit: Split up these factoids from Paypal? Like fees taken?

Dark.Revenant
July 25th, 2011, 02:35 PM
PayPal and Amazon have similar fees, but Amazon's are better in most ways. Assuming from US, at $15, the fees are identical ($30 for international). Above $15, Amazon charges more. Below $15, PayPal charges more. Amazon has a 4.9% fee to the donation, while PayPal charges 2.9% (3.9% for international) as well as a $0.30 fee.

Graham
July 25th, 2011, 02:37 PM
Hmm. Okay, thanks for the explanation! Maybe keep that paypal account open and accessible for donors who want to donate a lot? Like Plato? ;)

Dark.Revenant
July 25th, 2011, 02:40 PM
I don't trust PayPal with lots of money. That's the key issue here.

Graham
July 25th, 2011, 02:42 PM
I see. I use Amazon a couple of times or so every month so donating was super easy. I also occasionally use Paypal and my only gripping with them was that it took a while to set the account up and "confirm" it. That was your problem area?

Btw theoretically, it would be cheaper to mail you cash lol

Edit: After reading your explanation about fees, I thought about my donation - the fees was $0.00 O_o

Maybe because I'm a Prime member??

Dark.Revenant
July 25th, 2011, 02:53 PM
Fees are imposed on the recipient.

Also, the problems I had with PayPal were numerous, but the confirmation method wasn't particularly bad.

Dark.Revenant
July 26th, 2011, 12:09 AM
Seems I was wrong about the fees. They are indeed much more sensible than PayPal but there are quite a few other variables. I'll include a few other factoids to show the changing % rates of both systems.

Graham

It works. And it took a lot less than PayPal would have.

By the way, Amazon has a 14-day buyer protection thing built in (I can not use any funds from a transaction until 14 days pass without incident on that transaction) while PayPal just says "balls to it" and opens the buyer up to scams.

That's really the browser's fault. From the standpoint of a web developer, there is no truly secure way to transmit the card data except through SSH HTML, and the browser can do all sorts of strange field-caching shit with HTML fields. If you're concerned, delete your browser cache.

Never learned indices at your primary school? Well, you're a big boy now, so let's learn! X to the power of two is x2, or X squared. x times x. x to the power of three is x3, which is x times x times x, or x cubed, et cetera.
anything to the power of 0, eg: 10029392380 Is one. No matter what the fucking number is.
Now, when you have any negative index (the singular of indices), EG: x-1, The Formulae is "x-y = 1/xy", so 2-1= 1/21, or 2-1 = 0.5

This is my in-game hitlist. I love killing donors who are dumb enough to have coloured names. U MAD BRO?

Perhaps those donors with the colored names are motivated by the same thing which motivates most trolls. A need for attention. By singling them out, you are, in essence, only doing exactly what they wanted by giving them attention. Once you've killed them, they can move on to another game, where they will receive attention from others like you, singling them out to be killed, and they will get just as much satisfaction out of life as do the trolls who are merely desperate for attention.

On a side note, many people do not donate merely for the perks involved. They donate for the satisfaction of having helped another human being, for the charity aspect of it. Colored names, supporting the continued development of a game they love, and of a game-to-be that they hope to love, and all the other perks that come with donating, are merely pleasant side-effects.

Brotip: Perhaps you might better troll an attention-starved colored-name donor by ignoring them and keeping them alive in the game so that they have no excuse to leave and seek attention from others. Doing so would deprive them of the one thing they want, thus infuriating them. And is that not, after all, what you wish to do? Infuriate others, so that they, in retaliation, will give you that very same attention which you both so desperately seek?

Perhaps those donors with the colored names are motivated by the same thing which motivates most trolls. A need for attention. By singling them out, you are, in essence, only doing exactly what they wanted by giving them attention. Once you've killed them, they can move on to another game, where they will receive attention from others like you, singling them out to be killed, and they will get just as much satisfaction out of life as do the trolls who are merely desperate for attention.

On a side note, many people do not donate merely for the perks involved. They donate for the satisfaction of having helped another human being, for the charity aspect of it. Coloured names, supporting the continued development of a game they love, and of a game-to-be that they hope to love, and all the other perks that come with donating, are merely pleasant side-effects.

Well said sir!

There were once three North Star members of various permutations of spaces. If you're an actual donor you'll need to send me your receipt number (not the transaction ID).

Colored names are earned by ingame points now. Need 5k points for extended/colored names.

Due to legal reasons, any donor specific benefits had to be removed. Rev isn't allowed to give any sort of incentive for donating, according to Blizzard. Everything that was donor specific before is now unlocked at either 5k, 10k, or 20k points :d

It is, technically.

If you have less than 5k points and you donated, tell DR. He will sum you up to 5k points.

You'll then be able to use the most amazing thing anyone has ever seen on Starcraft 2.

Colored names!
:D

Thats actually incorrect...DR isn't allowed to increase your points for donating or risk being shut down by blizzard. He originally did it for previous donators right when blizzard enforced his new donation policy.

I had donor status with $2 but I think it was because I was the 4th person to ever donate...so I re-donated X amount anyways...to make things right. I guess I bought Dark Rev. a large pizza and a six pack of beer.

The staff has you written down. There’s not much we can do about random players accusing you but at least you won’t be punished.

I think at some point I consolidated multiple donor lists in a staff section including more things than are on this list. Might be worth some copy-pasta to the the public thread
