Hey, just wanted to make a list of all the cool variants you guys are using and what works the best.

Recently I've been using:
Spy
Doctor
Sheriff
Vigilante
Investigator
Escort
Random Town
Random Town
Godfather
Mafioso
Random Mafia
Arsonist
Random Neutral
Random Neutral

It's worked out to be pretty balanced so far. Also do you guys usually like 3 mafia or 4 mafia set ups.

I hope you reailze this is about the Starcraft II map\mod, and not about the real-life game, or about "EpicMafia"?

My counterexample: Debates is a Starcraft 2 map/mod.

There is a difference between people just playing, and people playing seriously.
I'm just wondering if anyone actually -seriously- plays mafia. Balanced setups, doing the work to make sure there's not to much town power//scum power, makeing sure things are not to far swingy. Both sides have a reasonably equal chance of achieving victory.

Yes, I know some people really hate not being able to do anything at night (and think they are useless because of it)

I've been trying to get a group of people together for a nice game of C9 (Mostly because I don't know how the math of F11 is programmed to work out with odd-numbers of people) which has been an utter failure. You could say I'm aggrivated over it =/

Lemmie try and remember a custom variant I threw together that someone in the Mafia channel wanted to see made...

Scum
Rolecop
Roleblocker
Mafia

Town
Flavour Cop (Investigator)
Doctor
Vigilante
Townx7

13 total players (+1 from normal to account for N0; 12 players if daystart)
10:3 ratio
10:3 -> 8:3 -> 6:3 -> 4:3
3 Mislynches until LYLO, with no Vig shots

Of note, I don't remember if it was a full Vig, or limited shots vig. Probably 1-shot or 2-shot vig.

Flavour cop could be replaced by Tracker/Watcher pair, if/when those roles are added.

This is a starcraft 2 custom game. If you want serious games you'd have to have a full premade group for it with several parties of people. If you are looking for seriousness in a public game good luck. Go to epic mafia if you want super serious business. Although even that game has it's trolls.

The setup in my save slot is pretty fun it goes like this...

Godfather (immune to detection)
Framer
Cosigliere (replaces godfather)
Serial Killler
Witch
Sheriff
Sheriff
Doctor
Doctor
Vigilante
Escort
Spy
Random Town (no citizens)
Random Town (no citizens)

makes for a pretty good dynamic

I hold EM to a very low standard; Forum mafias are where its at. :)

Mafia comes in a sliding scale.

On the most intellectual end, we have real-life mafia (the original type of mafia). Behavioral analysis is very very important and tells are more apparent because you're right the with everyone else. Role setups are pretty plain.

A small step down from real-life mafia is forum mafia. The behavioral analysis is key here and the role setups are usually on the plainer end, plus the lack of body language is generally offset by the very long game times.

Further down we have epicmafia, which is a similar pace to real-life mafia but lacks voice or faces/bodies to look at. To compensate, role setups are more extravagant.

At the most removed end, there is battlenet mafia, which is pretty much a breakneck speed (though speeds can be decreased to a "traditional" pace... nobody will do that in a public game) with truly convoluted role setups to offset the lack of voice/faces/bodies and the high unfamiliarity rate (lots of new players).

I have to design my game around the bottom rung because any other setup is unfeasible. I allow the game to be played at epicmafia speeds and configurations but such setups are very rare.
