View Full Version : Conflicting Reports

The head detective of the police department sent five people to investigate User X. When four of them reported back, the fifth person was found dead, notepad in hand. The head detective lists all of his men as prime suspects. What brings him to suspect this is that the reports are all very contradictory. This means that some of his men are lying, and may be in league with the Mafia. The head detective looks at the reports very carefully to determine the culprit. Oh, and in case you're wondering, not counting the investigative roles, there is only one of every role involved. Who is lying? Who killed Investigator E? And how did the scenario play out?

Sheriff A reports that: User X is a member of the Mafia!
Investigator B reports that: User X works with knives. He's probably a Doctor, but he may also be a Serial Killer.
Investigator C reports that: User X is a Bus Driver.
Sheriff D reports that: User X is not suspicious.
Investigator E wrote: User X is skilled at forgery. He is probably a Framer.

(You won't guess it so easily this time! Solution will be posted in spoiler tags in a week. And investigator does get results before he dies in this setup.)

The head detective, by definition, is a Detective himself. He tracked User X and saw him kill his fellow investigator in cold blood. Looking at the report, he realized that an Investigator doesn't detect a person's exact role, so Investigator C must be lying.

The real Framer intended to frame somebody, but a Witch happened to unknowingly force him onto User X, making him appear as the Framer. That means that Sheriff A and Investigator E aren't lying. An Escort appeared and distracted Investigator B for the whole night. Unable to go back to headquarters without a report, Investigator B made something up, saying that User X works with knives. So he's lying, but for understandable reasons.

Taking into account that there is only one of every role involved, Sheriff D wasn't controlled and he wasn't distracted, so he must be lying on User X's behalf. The difficult part here is figuring out who is guilty of what. Sheriff A, Investigator E are telling the truth. Investigator B is guilty of slacking off and then lying. The Witch forced the Framer to frame User X. User X killed Investigator E. Investigator C is a Consigliere, Sheriff D is a Framer, and User X is the Godfather.

What exactly are we trying to find, and are Witches in play, or is this more real life scenario?

Yes, it occurred all in one night. And this isn't a real-life scenario, this is an in-game scenario.

If going off in-game scenario, then the dead one lied. You don't get results before you die.
If we are assuming he did get results, then Sheriff A lied.

I think the dead one, 5, is a liar too. because he died and his notepad said "good at forgery", meaning it was probably forged.
and Sheriff A is lying if E is lying too
