View Full Version : Wizards conundrum #1

lunaris888
April 9th, 2012, 10:24 AM
It is the day before a game of mafia resolves. There are 9 players left. At the start of the next day, the sun rises and town wins. Tonight only one person capable of doing an action will chose to refrain, no one will kill more than one person, and all non-town will be dead, with all town surviving. If you were to investigate the 9 players alive on this day, you would see:

One works with gas
One is a loaner (who knows everyone's role)
Three have weapons
Two are citizens or something sinister
One has knives
One is part of a secret organization.

You have all the info you need to deduce what happened correctly, however I am willing to answer any yes or no questions.

Bonus Tip: For all intents and purposes, town should lose epicly tonight, but does not.

Any roles given by yes/no answer will include a spoiler tag for people who want to try to guess without knowing exact roles. I would appreciate it if anyone who knows an exact role uses a spoiler tag or vague language when referencing that role.

Is serial killer night immune?

Is GF night immune?

Both SK and GF are, as per typical setup, set to immune at night.

So yes to both questions.

Possible 5 town vs 4 evil scenario(perphaps not epic loss but still pretty much over for town):

Gas = Bus Driver
Loner = Witch
Weapons = Mafioso, Jailor, Vigilante
citi/sinister = GF + Veteran
Knives = Serial Killer
Secret Organization = Mason

Veteran goes on alert.
Mason does nothing.
Bus driver switches mason with himself.
Jailor jails and executes GF (8 left)
Mafioso kills witch.(7 left)
Witch controls vigilante to shoot mafioso, mafioso dies. (6 left)
Serial Killer visits the veteran and dies.(5 left, only townies)
Town wins :)

GF + busdriver could be replaced with arsonist and citizen. The problem is killing off more than 2 night immune roles when veteran only gets to kill one.

Gas = Arsonist
Loner = Survivor
weapons = Vigilante, Mafioso, Jailer
"Citizens" = Godfather, Veteran
Knives = SK
Secret organization = Cultist

The Arsonist ignites and kills the Serial Killer.
The Survivor skips his action.
The Serial Killer Murders the Survivor.
The Jailer executes the Godfather.
The Mafioso kills the Arsonist (Who is NOT night immune).
The Veteran goes on alert.
The Cultist tries to convert the Veteran but is eliminated.
The Vigilante kills the Mafioso.

This is a 3 town vs 2 maf vs SK/Cult/Arso endgame sit. This is assuming everything goes right for town - The Mafioso could have murdered the Jailer instead etc..

EDIT: The town will be unable to reach a consensus on who to lynch.

Incorrect, and arsonist in this situation is set to night immune.

Yes or no questions only please, otherwise you get into questions like "who did what?" and ruin the whole lateral thinking part of the game.

Bus Driver Switches Witch and Mafioso (causing mafioso to be run over by bus and Witch to die by high-caliber bullet.)
Mason does nothing, not even talks.
Veteran goes on alert.
Serial Killer visit Veteran.

I am not sure, but does Godfather being in jail count as refraining from his night action? If so, I could make the solution I offered less likely by making Mason Cult and have them visit the Veteran as well.

You are close, but you are wrong, you have one role misconstrued and it throws off your scenario.

Instead of just juggling the roles around i thought about a different approach, since you say there are 9 players alive at the start of the day.

This is a 4 town vs 5 non-town :O

Gas = Arsonist.
Loner = Witch
Weapons = Mafioso, Jailor, Vigilante
citi/sinister = Jester + Veteran
Knives = Serial Killer
Secret Organization = Cult.

So the day starts with 9 players alive:
Jester gets lynched during the day, with arsonist as the only guilty voter.

Now the night begins:

Veteran goes on alert.
Cult visits veteran and dies. (1 down).
Arsonist suicides in grief of killing the poor jester (2 down).
Jailor jails and executes SK (3 down).
Mafioso kills witch.(4 down).
Vigilante doesn't want to shoot anyone, but the witch will force him to.
Witch controls vigilante to shoot mafioso, mafioso dies. (all 5 down).

You are on the right track, getting much closer, but 2 of your roles are off, and you are forgetting that a jailor cannot jail after a lynch.

Alright, that's fair. Okay, so when you say "the role I mistook," do you mean:
There is a role that isn't supposed to be there?
or:
Did I have a role that's action was used incorrectly? :D
See how I made them 2 yes or no questions :P If I am legal to ask either of those.

Questions -

Was there a lynch the night before?

If so, was the lynched player a jester?

Did anyone commit suicide or leave the game?

Does town win if Witch is alive?

Does veteran ignore immunity?

Does doctor prevent conversion?

Are there more Evil (arson/witch/cult/mafia) roles than Benign (survivor/town)?

Mafioso
- Targets Vigilante (now Mafioso) run over by a bus

Jailor
- Lynching during the day, he can not act but does not factor into the group of those who CHOSE not to act.
Jester
- Lynched during the day. (This stopping the Jailor from acting)
Veteran

Serial Killer
- Targets the Witch
- Commits suicide over the Jester
