Or some other role played in 99% of games of mafia, you can also have the option of keeping GF appearing as citizen for those 1% of citizen games, so you can have a "properly balanced" game if you want but in pub games which are purely for fun, why take balancing so seriously?

What do you mean, its a lot more fun being a role, esp. a power role, rather than being a citizen, unless you are all after balanced strategy. For that you have private games. I mean it still takes a whole lot of strategy in "fun" pub setups simply b/c it takes a special type of skill to handle the randomness, stupidity; for example, you have to know the politics of getting trolls on your side.

It seems to come down to skill even in pubs where everyone has a role, simply due to the stupidity and disorganization of the town.

And the setup you described is not lol-worthy, 3 mafia and the rest neutrals, or 3 jailors, 1 mafiaso, and the rest jesters are pretty awesome :P
