The theme is simple, everyone playing was kidnapped and put into a computer simulation of a mafia game. I was originally intending on doing a back to basics mfm for my next mfm hosting job however after getting pumped for forum mafia x I have decided to incorporate the concept of levelling into my mfm. This is version 1 meaning it is not final and will probably change based on my opinions of what works and what doesn’t in fmx

This is my mfm idea, I intend to wait until other people have hosted a few times to host again because I’m a nice person but when the time is right I will copy this thread into setup approval so this probably won’t happen for a month or two at least.

Any feedback would be appreciated!

I like this setup, the leveling system is simpler and well thought out. I'm also a huge fan of the cult but I haven't been in a game with them yet. The cult leader is so much more powerful than the other neutral killers so that will impact the game a lot.

I don't think the neutral killers should gain invulnerability and other OP abilities after they have killed a certain amount of players. This will just make them stronger as the town gets weaker. If they are to get immunity they should get a 1-shot passive vest instead. I can't really comment on balance because it's quite variable. There could be 1 KPN or there could be 3. The cult also can't be balanced as the cult leader could die day 1 or he could cult a mafia and the jailor and go on to win. There are a lot of power roles and a lot of scum so a mass role claim is very likely even with the risk of the soul thief.

How many cultists will die when the cult leader dies (if any)?
Can the drug dealer make someone look like they've been blocked or maybe even blackmailed?

I am still working on the town's level ups, town gets stronger over time too! I just posted the factions I have finished. All cultists die if cult leader dies.

As for the evil neutrals leveling up their objectives are hard. Three in a row means the serial killer can't be roleblocked, jailed, or target an immune player. The spree killer has to be really lucky to get three or four kills in one night. It is hard to get a triple kill off as an arsonist and almost impossible to get a quadruple kill. Oh if they kill 4 at once they will level up before they actually pull the kill off so all 4 will be sanitized!

I debated that however I think the additional effects in forum mafia x would be overpowered.

I'm a big fan of simple setups, I like the original role list a lot.

Not really in the frame of mind to think about the implications of the levelling up stuff right now (though a quick look did tell me that under 'Blackmailer' you've got stuff about witching?).

I'd wait to see how FMX progresses before commenting on the levelling up system.

That was a typo I fixed, thanks for pointing it out. What are your predictions on the balance of fmx? Personally I like the idea of leveling and I think I balanced it to work for a smaller mfm game but that remins to be seen.

I think the levelling system is a cool twist. I think it might be a million times easier to balance and plan if only a few roles could level up - I don't think it's necessary to give pretty much every Power Role extra abilities. It's not just a question of balancing the game but also balancing the player experience. I'm looking forward to FMX but trying to remember how everyone levels up and the implications of EVERY ROLE and EVERY LEVEL might make my brain implode.

Even in the M-FM setting with fewer players I'd consider including less roles that can level up, and a maximum level of two.

I think after the first couple days of fmx this setup takes what works from it and scraps what doesn't (5 random investigation results and other such things). We still have to see how things will go however.
