The Suggestions forum was probably one of the most busy sections back on the COM site. There were some excellent suggestions, some of which even made it into the game, and some of which made it into a FM game.

That's all stopped now because DR ran out of room to add new features a long time ago. In this time of S-FM, M-FM and FM though we once again have the opportunity to create and experiment with new roles. So, here in M-FM Parking, we encourage you to submit suggestions for new roles.

The long-term goal of this movement is to compile a list of community favourites which we have tested, and have them all in one place for reference. These roles can then be incorporated into FM games of all shapes and sizes over time. The Journalist only made its debut in FMVII but has become a commonly used role since then, for example.

So if you have an idea for a new role, post it here for some constructive feedback! I'll be updating this list with a link to each individual role suggestion. If you want to host a game, or wish to see your role hosted by someone else, this is the place to unveil it. That way the kinks can be ironed out by everyone before they go to testing. Who knows, one of these days maybe a special Custom Role-only game will be made?

Format:

Use this template when submitting a new role. The name of your thread should begin with [Role Suggestion].

Game Size(s): You should specify which game sizes this role is designed to fit, S-FM/M-FM/FM etc.
Abilities:
Win Condition:
Intended Purpose: You should specify why this role was created, and what purpose it is designed to fulfil.
Meta-Game Implications: Think carefully about how this affects the synergy of a game.
Possible Cons: Be honest here. Not a single role in Mafia is perfect, that's the point of the game. Specify what you think the limitations of the role are, what needs to be looked at, and what roles this would not work alongside with.
One Sentence Summary: This will appear with your role in the main list to give people an idea of what the role is about.
Additional Notes:


Don't bother including investigation results. This is for forum games, the host of each game will decide investigation groupings.

Roles which are special/unique to certain games (Soul of the Beast, Sephiroth One Winged Angel, Jesus, etc.) haven't been included.

I'm eventually going to expand this section to include every custom role which has appeared in every game; this should provide us with a nice library of roles and a place where Hosts can find exactly what they need and give the players a reference point for role cards. Of course this will take some time and will need a new category system, and I'll need to write up previous roles and give them their own posts.

If previous hosts would care to write up the custom roles you've used using the guideline above that would be helpful - now you've tested them out feel free to discuss any improvements you'd like to make.

I have also added a line to future guidelines entitled 'One Sentence Summary'. This is the summary which will be shown next to your suggestion in the main list, try to keep it concise please.

The creativity on these forums is rampant, but there just isn't enough room for all the games which people want to host. Hosts which collaborate with others and use some of these suggestions instead of creating a dozen new roles will be noticed and may have their setup approved over others; if you have an idea for a new role (which is often the reason people want to host a game in the first place), it is therefore a good idea to post it in this subforum. You may even get to play as your suggested role in other hosts' setups!

Phase 1 has begun - Have added some of the roles from FMI-VIII, and have organised them in a very minor way. This thread is no longer closed so general role discussion can take place here (suggestions on how better to organise the list will be appreciated, I just kinda threw it all together).

If you created a role, or used a custom role in your own game, and it isn't here then let me know. Also post the role card in its own [Role Suggestions] thread. It may seem messy but that's because I just added a whole bunch at once. It's good for each role to have its own individual thread I can link to, so a more detailed post and discussion specific to that role can take place there.
