So, oops_ur_dead and I are hosting the FM9.

Due to the fact that too experimental setups tend to fuck up we decided to backtrack a bit and make it more "oldschool". Not completely, though. Since the setup is still featuring a remake of the cult, it might have potential loopholes and balance issues.

That is what this thread is for. I would like anyone interested to take a look and share what you think about the new mechanics and ask any questions that come to your mind.

Does the Interrogator roleblock?

Oops edited my post for grammar. That stings.

Q: Does the Interrogator roleblock?
A: Interrogator works like the ordinary jailor, but can not kill. Any night chats except the jail chat will be unavailable and you will be roleblocked. The town-aligned jailor can now kill even if someone was lynched, but this ability has limited uses.

I have never done a FM before but it looks very fun. I've read the first four so far and I'd love to participate in further matches. How does one sign up?

Hey, this looks pretty cool, but I have a few questions (sorry):

Does Stalin get to use his ability every night in addition to the kill that is performed?

If so, do Stalin and Lenin and any other Bolsheviks vote for who to send out for the kills, regardless of any special abilities they might use on the side?

Does the German Spy get the exact role of a person? It just says they'll investigate them, whereas the Russian Empire investigator says it gets a list of possible roles.

Can the Drunkard take over one of the special roles like Lenin or Stalin?

If so, and the Anarchist's kill trigger has been activated (where has to kill both of them), will he have to kill the Drunkard again?

In FMVII prepare to witness the epic majesty of Lionel.

This may be the one time where the words "in Soviet Russia" do not make me cringe.

And I'm excited for this setup, I'm really glad you scaled it back a bit. I like the German Empire essentially being the two mafia teams combined. I also like the merger of the Neutral Killer and the Cult (people may complain it becomes an overpowered Cult, but I don't think it makes too much of a difference). The Mafia getting all those roles working together with their own healer to protect them from the Cult... I still like it, this is definitely a stronger scum setup than the average we've seen so far, but the fairly standard rules list without weird mechanics will mean the Town can play well together.

The Sapper is a good role, it's been suggested a fair few times and I'm looking forward to seeing it (heads up, if I'm a German I will verbally abuse my teammates until I get that role).

I seem to remember the Revolutionists back in the possible roles list of FM IV. Glad to see they're finally going to be in play :)

Of course. In fact, everyone gets a new role every night just to keep you on your toes.

I was going to claim Trotsky actually, but the theme is a tad early :( a shame, because I really wanted my Graveyard to read "Trotsky: Stabbed in the face by a man lunging at him with an Ice Pick."

Does the jailor's execution ignore night immunity?

It does, not that it's very important: only the neutral killer and anyone jailed by the interrogator are immune.

Will codes created by programs similar to the one used in FM3 be allowed?

If so, and the Anarchist's kill trigger has been activated (where has to kill both of them), will he have to kill the Drunkard again?

1 - One action per person and night (excluding the items you receive), so he will have to send someone to do the killing if he wants to recruit. Journalist can do both since he technically interviews during day. Luckily, killing action is only relevant with at least one recruit.
2 - Voting isn't an action. If the team chooses Lenin to do the killing, he will have to comply and sacrifice his recruitment ability. If he gets chosen to do both, he will only be able to perform one of his own choosing.
3 - German Spy gets the same information as a Russian Investigator.
4 - Drunkard can't be any named roles or a General. He also can't become an Anarchist. His choice will be announced the next morning.

Will codes created by programs similar to the one used in FM3 be allowed?
No. The only codes and ciphers allowed are those visible by the naked eye and decodable with only your mind, or pen+paper.

The code rules are as usual. Nothing you can't see with a bare eye and crack with more than pen and paper. Rep is allowed.

Any anti-AFK/lurking rules put into this game?

How will you balance any modkills?

That is answered in sugnup thread. Afk for a day+night and you get modkilled. Lurking roles without action will be warned at the start of the night and killed by the next morning.

I'm mostly interested in the balancing problem modkilling includes.

philie
January 6th, 2012, 11:06 PM
That will be a shame, but i don't believe it will cause more balancing problems than just letting them afk. A player going afk will seriously harm his team, already. It'll be up to future hosts not to include them.

So the only way for someone to know if a Jailor is a real Jailor is if they can kill them? Interesting.

I also like the Teacher role. It's a nice spin on the Student, but what happens if the teacher chooses a Mafia? I have a feeling there will be no information given in that night chat because of how scared everyone will be. I assume the same will happen with the Jail chat.

Like always we'll see how it goes and save opinions for after, but I just got an feeling this is going to be extremely hard for Mafia to lose.

philie
January 7th, 2012, 02:46 PM
It only appears that way though. Town will be stronger to compensate.
If anyone overlooked it, the jailor can now execute no matter the lynch (albeit the ability will have limited uses).

Teacher can be very powerful if used right. He can be of great help to any power role. If he picks mob, it can allow for some interesting scenarios, too.

Removing the Interrogator is the easy way out. How about having jail or and interrogator kill each other instead?

Mafia jailer is too good to be removed.
