View Full Version : Forum Mafia Player Caps.

As we've seen over the past number of Forum Mafias, interest has grown significantly.

It is very difficult to have a massive game as chance to analyze drops, becomes a massive vote wagon clusterfuck, and hosting becomes a lot harder.

To that end, the mod team has discussed a few options and the best one was to run simultaneous FMs capped at approximately 21 players.

We're running a poll to see who would prefer this model over the old one, and to get some other suggestions which you can post below.

Keep in mind that this may not start for FMVIII as I believe FalseTruth has planned for a big game.

My plan is to make a separate FM board, where anyone can host games so long as they have approval. These games can be of any size, theme, or whatever. This way we have a system more like MafiaScum.

i had a plan like that some time ago.
according to the poll, starting spontaneous FM had more votes for "NO!!" than "YES!!" and the restrictions options combined.
good luck with your idea.........

This is what we need. Both of those options in the poll are stupid. A big FM game with everyone should run along side smaller FM games on a separate board.

You can play in more than one FM.

Why do we even need option1 and option2 when we have option3?

The MafiaScum replication sounds good to me.

Also, if you need more mods count me in.

Also, there are multiple 5-13 player open setups that could be used for really small games.

Isn't the value of maf to have a really awesome 20-person insane clusterfuck?
Option3 is the best option, as the interest in FM has gone up.
A 20-person FM plus a 16-person M-FM would be ideal, with some overlap of course.

@jaczac: For forum mafia it's pretty small, but Vengeful Mafia (http://mafiascum.net/wiki/index.php?title=Vengeful_Mafia) is a fun setup, it just doesn't last long.

Most setups are 9-13 anyway, there are a few small ones though.

I'm the only one that chose the first option, how fucking gangster.
I don't really mind with first one or third one though, both are cool.

I chose Option 3, Whats happening right now, FM, and M-FM is good. I'd like to see my death note setup done, but that would require a mod to represent it.

I think it's obvious what I went for ^^

I was surprised at the lack of interest in M-FM at first, though I suppose 14 people over a single 24 hour period wasn't too shabby. Dead/unincluded players from FMVI were going to have priority but that wasn't really necessary.

BBmolla is right 5 people can be a good game (2 citizens, 1 mafia, 1 doc, 1 sheriff), but I usually keep myself to sites like EpicMafia if I want something like that. With forums you have an opportunity to really take advantage of custom roles, mechanics and setups.

I still like the big FM games though, of 34+ people. I think that's the creme de la creme, the one which everyone wants to play and one day host. Seeing as how M-FMI only took a week to finish, I think running games alongside it is totally viable.

If a subforum for spontaneous forum mafias did get created, it would have to be organized pretty well, I can imagine a flood of games suddenly getting created and not enough players wanting to be in all of them.

In my opinion:
FM should be capped at 30-35.
Signups should be considered by seniority
A certain percentage of the number of players should be reserved for new players(3-5) who have proved they are active(back to a post requirement or something)

This is pretty much what I was thinking, encourages some new players that are active, while also saving spots for people who want to play again

And M-FMs could give the post count AND the (partial) experience.
