Sign me up, but if I get the OP jailor (assuming you still haven't changed it) I'm joining Guardian in a suicide pact.

Are you still bothered by that? In Luna's setup, there were 3 mafia and 1 killing role. In this setup there will be 3 mafia and 2 killing roles that could team up, so the jailor option shouldn't be changed.

However, everyone will receive secondary objective in the game, and will get additional points if an objective is completed.

Yes, and in Luna's setup I didn't realize how broken a jailor that can always jail is in a setup this small.

If half of the town was citizens, then it would make sense to give the jailor this ability, but it's a town comprised of power roles. So no, his ability to jail every night is powerful in an of itself compared to the mafia. Assuming the mafia has a consort like last time (which isn't even guaranteed), that gives them what?

1) One kill as a team per night
2) One role-block as a team per night
3) Anonymity for their actions, but detectives, lookouts, sheriffs, and investigators can all mess this up

The jailor gets the following:

1) Confirmed Role, meaning he can never be mislynched, and will likely be the town leader as a result. Any doctors, bus drivers, and bodyguards will do their best to ensure his survival. And given it's a town full of PR's the likelihood of these roles is all good, meaning even if the Jailor role-claims on Day 1 it will be a while before he actually dies.

2) His role-block takes priority over the Mafia. Normally this isn't a problem in a regular setup, but when the jailor can always jail, and he takes priority over anything the Mafia can do, there's a pretty big power shift. Instead of the town going to sleep at night afraid of the mafia, the Mafia is going to sleep at night afraid of a visit from the Jailor. That completely undermines the nature of the game. It's called MAFIA not JAILOR.

3) At least in this one you lowered it from infinite executions to only two, but even then he can do it even after they lynch, so it's ultimately not necessary for him to even use his executions.

4) WTF is the point of an Escort in this setup? You've made a Jailor that can always jail, and has priority role-block. The Escort, by comparison, is the same except they can't talk to the person they role-block and they can't do it at the start of the night. So yeah, there's literally no reason for the Escort to exist in your world.

5) It's not just me that has mentioned the problems with the jailor, Deathfire and CmG also voiced their concern, and one of them wasn't even on the mafia's side last game. So yeah, I don't think I'm the only one that's "still bothered by it".

As a side note, secondary objectives sound cool. But you really need to make it the classic Jailor (i.e one that can only jail on a no lynch day). In a game of 40 people being able to always lynch is useful since the odds of finding scum are still low, but in a setup this small it's really not hard at all. Especially since you can do it even after they've caused you to mislynch a townie. As it stands, and with a shitload of power roles, there's no reason to even worry about a mislynch. The jailor is still able to jail, and there's still enough power roles to fill in the void.

It was literally impossible for me to win the last game, because even if I caused 3 mislynches, the Jailor could still jail me each night and kill me. Not that I'm complaining about that game, like I said I didn't even realize the problem with it at the time. But this is a new game where you can change it. So yeah, you really should.

I would agree that Jailor was overpowered in last game, so maybe (maybe!) when the game starts, I'll think carefully about it. The only thing remains for sure: Jailor can only execute twice. If there will be changes in role options, I'll update the FAQ thread accordingly.

The Jailor is a powerful role.

That's why it exists, it is intended to be powerful ^^

When the M-FMI Results and Awards page goes up you'll see night action results which might make you laugh xD

Looks like we need 2 more signers for 20-man setup. I'll go to sleep now and will be back in 10 hours. Keep in mind that last 4 spots can also be reserve spots.

On a kind of off topic note, if you need a place where you can let Mafia talk or Jailor talked with jailed, I highly advise http://www.quicktopic.com/mytopics

Just give them a link to the topic. Only people with a link can visit the quicktopic thread.

Luna
December 14th, 2011, 04:18 PM
It's easier to just set up a forum, took me less than a minute to google and find a place to temporarily host one. Then setting up usergroups is easy, so you can have all your dead chat/mafia chat/jail chat/cultist chat/mason chat in one place and just limit who can see what.

BBmolla
December 14th, 2011, 04:21 PM
That takes a whole lot more effort. Quicktopic just make a topic and give them link.

http://www.quicktopic.com/47/H/Nktdke33zJB

Did this in 5 seconds. No one can see this unless given link.

Luna

With phpBB3 it's actually quite simple, and as a host you need as much control as possible (being able to lock topics, move them into secret archives, etc.).

Zack
December 14th, 2011, 04:31 PM
Since there's more room, why not. /sign up

Thats assuming it'l be a 20-person game, otherwise guess i'l just be in reserve, heh

BBmolla
December 14th, 2011, 04:31 PM
Uh, you can lock quicktopics too. And you dont need secret archives if you use quicktopics.

Luna
December 14th, 2011, 04:37 PM
I think you over-estimate the effort needed to run a forum, and under-estimate the usefulness of having complete control over every aspect of the forum and having all the topics and subforums in the same place. Like, for example, being able to hide the jail chat from the captive's view after they have been released.

BBmolla
December 14th, 2011, 04:42 PM
The captive could just copy paste the messages said in jail to an outlet outside of the topic anyway.

Arguing is pointless though so I'll just stop here.

Luna
December 14th, 2011, 04:44 PM
I agree arguing is pointless ^^

Because I just hosted a game and know everything there is to know about everything bahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

I'm just joshing you ^^

I actually think that's a good link you've given us, I just know that I only had to spend a couple of minutes setting up a temporary forum and it was easy to maintain instead of having to bookmark lots of different subtopics. If I ever hosted a Turbo FM I'd probably use that quicktopic thingy.

I've never played forum mafia before so do you think it's a good idea for me to join this one and try it out? If there is room that is

Luna
December 14th, 2011, 05:16 PM
This is the best way to ease into it, a more relaxed and casual atmosphere (and if you die, no biggy the game should end quickly ^^).

FMVIII is a little while away anyway by the looks of things.

And here we go! The signups are closed now. The game will start with 20 players. I will slowly start giving role cards to people today. Day 1 will start in 10 hours from how, when i'll return from my work.

Good luck guys, you will need it!

Fragos

Roles are already assigned to players, during the course of 10 hours each participant will receive his role card along with his secondary objective. Stay tuned and keep in mind that you will need to elect a Town Leader during the first day.

To see your role options, check Mini-FM II FAQ thread, as some of the roles were updated.
