This forum blows in it's current form. Really badly. It's been fairly poor for a long time. Any ideas for new forums that would be enjoyable or games you play that we can bring onsite are welcome.

I'm basically willing to just create forums for anything you guys can think of that might spark something, like anything. Serz.

Some of our members are pretty toxic to the point that I don't really see new people having a desire to become a part of this community. My thought line is that our purpose as moderators of the sc mod is to eliminate toxic players. That just never happened on the forum. I now understand why so many people fought CJ coming back. Unbanning everyone would probably revive the forum in some state but I'm not sure if that is in line with your vision for what the community should grow into.

Personal thoughts aside linking some of our associated communitys could help. The Skype chat groups or the massive amount of us who play steam. Maybe venture into some free to play flash games or League of Legends.

We just need to expand our scope. We either need to merge with a multi-platform website or expand ourselves in someway.

Like I said, endorse other popular games. Both on SC2 and other entirely differnt platforms.

EDIT: Maybe we could make an RP section of the forums for people that are into that kinda stuff.
EDIT 2: Rent out sections of the forums for people to use for whatever the hell?

I have been sad to watch this site become less active/fun since I first joined (mostly from games becoming less common/some dying even when they play out), and I'm totally supportive of trying to revitalize it.

I do personally feel there's a lot more insularity to this site and that may have caused some of the site's slowing down of activity - it's hard for players to join, and players leave all the time, so we end up getting quite a bit of a flow out.

Possibly adding some sub-forums for discussing other popular topics would help, I guess? I feel like this forum (especially with its software + vote counter etc) works best as a place to play forum games as opposed to discussions though (especially with the amount of actual circle jerking and screwing around occurs on this site. I mean look at this thread, it's a pretty serious topic and I see very few thought out and constructive posts. Not that that's a bad thing, but it's a good example of the style here).

One other aspect I would consider thinking about is what sort of game-play does this site cater or aim for? Serious try-hards that want to win every game? Casual players that can make a few posts every few days and do it more as something funny at times? I feel like the site caters to a particular style of players that used to be here in large numbers, but we don't really have that many players that fill that niche any more. Perhaps changing the style of games may make a difference?

Fairly long stream-of-consciousness, I'm really tired right now lol

When the site was active, it was the FMs that brought people together. So many players referencing past games, and building up personalities as FM players. There's not the same kind of personality exchange that happens here any more :/

So, my current idea is this. Forum should be made by the people, not stomped on by the staff. As it stands, anyone that wants a forum gets it. Just PM me what you want your Forum to cover, and what it will be called, and why you think you can maintain it. BAM you get your own forum.

Will this work? Who the fuck knows.

The best way to revive this forum is to expand in scope so that it's not catered only to players of one particular dying SC2 map.

Which would probably involve changing the name and domain.

This.

The popularity of this site is directly tied to the popularity of the SC2 map, and that's literally our only source of advertising.

Time to either rebrand or do something to significantly boost the map's popularity.

Wait for Legacy of the Void/Blizzards next RTS with a map maker. The reason that there are few people coming to the site is because not a lot of people are playing Starcraft Mafia, which in turn is caused by the lack of people playing Starcraft. This website is ultimately designed for a specific map whose popularity is controlled by the popularity of the game it was created on. If you really want to play larger FMs, do it on a different website, but no one here is at all able to help revive the map this website is built on.

Only other solution is to completely change the purpose of the website. However, it you want to go down that road, it would make more sense to make a completely separate website.

How many people would migrate over to the new site, though? Unless the current domain redirects, I feel like we'd lose a decent chunk of the remaining community.

It depends on the domain and what crawlbots get in. I had a site with Proboards. After a few months I had to block half of Google's IPs because there were so many, but the site was advertised all over the net. There was plenty of traffic within months. (Proboards is a free site, btw.)

If you go to a new domain, get it set up and running, but keep this site going for a time, say 2 months, with pinned notices and banners and mass PMs & e-mails announcing the new site.

While I'm here, maybe a little color might help. This grey is pretty dreary and non-committal, maybe a black background, red borders, and dark purple tables. Or black, light blue, and dark blue. Black, emerald green, and black.

While most of the active community would likely migrate over if they liked the purpose of the new site, it would still only be no more then a couple dozen people with a very limited influx newcomers, making it not a very good solution.

The main point of my post is that there isn't much that can be done currently to revive mafia. The game will most likely receive a small revival when Legacy of the Void comes out due to people playing the map again, and a total revival if Warcraft 4 comes out and a mafia map is created for that. However, until that time, options are very limited. Unless people are desperate to try something, I would recommend that we accept that we currently have a very small community, work around it, possibly make changes such as modifying the limits and layouts of FMs to better accommodate the smaller size and just wait.

ATM the site capitalizes on sc2mafia, thats something we all have in common. if you want to increase population, you need to go broader than that. what else do we all have in common? well lets look at mafia, its primarily a thinking game, something based on logic/puzzles, its also a video game. this says that the bulk of the community should at least have some desire to play other similar type of thinking games or video game. so what i think the site should do is do a name change and become a forum that revolves around thinking games and a wide variety of puzzles of the sort. mafia would become only a small piece of the forum.

1. re-purpose site
2. rename site
3. start hosting browser games focused on a specific type of genre. turn based, puzzle solving, thinks of this nature http://www.cipherprime.com/games/auditorium/ which would be built into the site.
4. cater to all areas of interest, become active in making new sections based on new needs.
5. make it something that when you type into goolge "puzzle games" the new name would pop up relatively high up on the list
6. have contests more frequently
7. offer more text based games and have multiple going on at once

overall 2 thinks need to happen, 1. you need a new source of people to advertise to. 2. you need to offer more than just mafia to them.
