A New Random Thinker # 4

This one is pure logic, everyone can figure it out over time.

I have three special four-sided dice.

They have one letter on each side.

When I roll them together I get three random letters which I try to rearrange into a word. In my eight goes so far I have made the words:

CAT, SON, POD, RIG, PEG, TAP, DIN, APE

What are the letters on each of the three dice?

How do you only get 3 random letter when you roll. Doesn't a 4 sided die have 3 sides facing up after being rolled? They'd be triangular pyramidal
