The "One Winged Angel" role is a modified Serial Killer. Sephiroth is invulnerable at night, cannot be culted, and will be yielding the Black Materia, which charges up everytime he kills someone. The night after he managed to successfully kill 4 people, he will be able to kill twice, bypassing all kinds of protections, healing and invulnerabilities. During that period Sephiroth will be immune to roleblock and manipulation.

Possible hidden roles
Mafia: Consigliere, Consort, Disguiser, Drug Dealer, Enforcer, Framer, Grave Robber, Janitor, Mafioso.
Benign Neutral: Amnesiac, Executioner, Ghost, Jester, Student, Survivor, Witch.
Town: Bodyguard, Bus Driver, Coroner, Detective, Doctor, Escort, Jailor, Journalist, Investigator, Lookout, Mason, Sheriff, Veteran, Vigilante.

Some of roles listed above may or may not have unique names. You will eventually discover them while playing.

Role and Game Options:
Amnesiac: Although the Amnesiac is not immune to Roleblock and Witching, his action has higher priority than those effects, thus he won't be actually affected by them. He will still receive a notification.

Bodyguard: Bodyguard kills do NOT ignore healing, protections and invulnerabilities.

Bus Driver: Cannot target self.

Consigliere: Sadly, i couldn't have the consigliere replacing the Godfather in this setup. It would have fit perfectly with the RP, but red mafia would have been too powerful. Sorry.

Consort: NOT immune to roleblocks.

Coroner: Will block Grave Robbers if they target the same corpse at the same time.

Cultists: Cult suicide ignores any healing, protection or invulnerability. Players who are to suicide are chosen at random.

Detective: If your target is framed, you will receive false information. If your target is President Shinra or Hojo, you will not be able to track their movements.

Disguiser: Will automatically sanitize its target. Disguiser can be sent for the kill before and after his disguise action, but he cannot double kill on his own.

Escort: NOT immune to roleblocks.

Executioner: Target is always town. If Executioner must suicide due to his target dying at night, his suicide ignores any healing, protection or invulnerability.

Ghost: Will not read the dead chat. Possessed person will not be able to speak, vote, or use any ability during that day.

Jailor: Can always jail, but will be able to execute only after no-lynch days. Jailor execution ignores any healing, protection or invulnerability. While in jail, your captive will be immune to attacks and will be roleblocked for that night.

Jester: Jester suicide ignores any healing, protection or invulnerability.

Lookout: If your target is framed, you will receive false information. You will not notice President Shinra and Hojo visiting other people.

Sephiroth (One Winged Angel): If Sephiroth is jailed while he is able to use a fully charged Black Materia, he will automatically kill the jailor and will be able to choose a second target to kill. Normal roleblocks and witching attempts will simply fail (they will not be informed).

Veteran: Veteran kills do NOT ignore healing, protections and invulnerabilities. When you have an active alert, you will block all incoming actions towards you (including bus driving, roleblocking, witching and stealing).

Vigilante: Day Time shots will not be announced if they fail to kill their target. The Vigilante will receive a notification that he failed to kill his target.

Witch: Can target self. Can make a player target himself. Target will be informed of your witching attempt.

Death Notes: All evil roles with killing as their primary ability (Godfather, Mafioso, One Winged Angel and a Ninja with killing powers) may choose to leave a Death Note on their target. To do this, add "-Death Note TEXT" next to your kill command, either via PM or subforums.

Win priority: Sephiroth > Mafia > Cult > Town. Victory checks will happen at the beginning and at the end of each day. "Nobody Wins" scenario happen when there is a 1v1 between two different mafias, or when everyone (except ghost and jester) is dead on a victory check.

By the way, is Student also present here?

Student is in the pool of the possible benign neutral roles. We will have 1 or 2 of those depending on the number of players signed up (most probably 2). As they are hidden roles, you don't get to know what they are until you discover them in the actual game.

As soon as we reach a significant amount of signups. We might tweak the setup a little bit depending on the number of players, nothing major though.

1. So when can we expect it to start? Sign-ups are getting filled extremely fast.
2. Not really a question. I am just exited to see journalist in, seems like epic lulz could be had with that role. :)
3. Also more dayshot vigilantes pls, they worked awesome imo

1. Assuming the current FM will end within the week, we will be able to start Monday. Worst case scenario, Tuesday (EU time).
2. Glad to know :) we liked it the instant we read it.
3. Vigilantes, if present, will have 3 total shots, one of which can be used at day. Or you can use all 3 of them at night, your choice.

Forum mafia is a game of mafia on the forums. Nights and days last much longer than a normal game(24 hours and 24-48 hours respectively), and the focus is more on analysis and discussion over night actions(though night actions are still integral to the game).

It's a game for people who think that they would be awesome at mafia if they had more than 1 minute 30 seconds to convince people to their side of thinking, I guess.

Raiden
October 13th, 2011, 12:20 PM
so what is forum mafia

It is a game of mafia played in a forum environment. This means longer days, longer nights, a LOT more communication, some new roles and mechanics and all that. You should be able to see FM1, 2 and 3 in the archive section of this forum.

Be warned though, it requires a lot of time and dedication in order to be played properly. Some roles may be easier than others, some may be more challenging, but none them can be played in a careless and fastpaced manner like SC2 pubs are.

(Also, what Jack said)

The less meta is involved, the better. Codes will have to be evaluated by us and approved before using. Everyone knows how to manage their online/offline status, so that's up to them.

but yes, what's the citizens to other role ratio/current listing and how it's going to be affected depending on playercount or so?

We currently have a 34-people setup with two 4-people mafia, 5 neutrals and 21 towns, 8 of which are citizens. If we reach the intended 36 people cap, we will add 2 more citizens. If we get fewer people, we'll think about it.

That was Gast. Not Hojo

TheJackofSpades
October 13th, 2011, 06:29 PM
After the Nibelheim events, five years prior to the beginning of the game, Hojo was left with very little: his son, his most amazing creation as a scientist, was gone and nowhere to be found, and he couldn’t get a hold on the remaining Ancients. Hojo decided to try and recreate Sephiroth by cloning him, using the bodies of the surviving people of Nibelheim. He once again infused humans with Jenova’s cells, under some Mako exposure. The results of this experiment was the black-caped men, that carried tattoos (even though he was part of the experiment, Cloud didn’t receive any tattoo, because he was, under Hojo’s own admission when he meets Cloud at the Northern Pole, “a failure”).

After the events of the Nibelheim Incident, Professor Hojo rounded up the survivors of Sephiroth's rampage. He injected them with Jenova cells and exposed them to Mako energy, similar, if not identical, to the creation of a SOLDIER. However, these people were not the finest in physical and mental fitness, thus they could not keep their own egos and became shades of Jenova. Since Jenova was a puppet of Sephiroth, the Clones, too, became fanatics who would do anything for their master Sephiroth. Those who turned into mindless slaves were engraved with a number someplace on their body, but those who failed and kept some shred of their ego were left to die.

Seriously? Do you just get off on arguing with me? Professor Gast never even considered testing on human subjects, in fact he fled from Shinra when Hojo began doing so. Yes, he originally came up with the idea of the Jenova Project, but the idea that Hojo was working directly from Gast's research is a point of view you share only with Sephiroth.

I have been unable to find this anywhere, and i think i have seen people talk about it but it was in context so i wasn't too sure if it confirmed or denied it.

There is a certain person on here, who i may end up in this forum mafia game with, who refuses to get over something that happened in a game some time ago. [If you are reading this now, certain person, i have not listed you nor the offense so please don't take offense]

Because of this, i am curious to see if we are able to make new accounts for the sole purpose of no one knowing who you are in the game, so that there can be no griefing.

S'not so. Fuck Advent Children anyway.

It was a good movie imho, but we'll not use it in the game.

why is this FM7 when it should be FM6?

Originally FM6 was meant to be hosted by Dark Revenant, while we was supposed to host FM7 (hence the FF7 theme).
Due to blizzcon starting shortly, rev can't host for a week or more so we are switching.
We'll maybe call this FM6 to not cause confusion.

Because of this, i am curious to see if we are able to make new accounts for the sole purpose of no one knowing who you are in the game, so that there can be no griefing.

Yes, the game will be anonymous. We will setup some accounts and give you the passwords.

Yes, every role (with the possible exception of citizen) will have a secondary objective. None of those will be in contrast with your win conditions, some will be just "use your ability successfully", which should not to be taken for granted for some roles.

I assume you'll be providing plenty of background story and context aye? While little references and in-jokes will definitely be appreciated by those who love FF7, I'm in the situation where I *did* play FF7 but only when it first came out, and I can barely remember anything that happened (quite frankly all I remember is being on a train at the beginning, fighting a giant mechanical scorpion, and punching my friend in the face accidentally while celebrating the death of Sephiroth).

Actually I've been meaning to play it again at some point for years but I don't think I ever will, so if anyone knows of a good wiki or plot synopsis which is actually really detailed I'd love a link. In the meantime I'll stick to FF3 on my DS (and laugh hysterically whenever I pass FFXIII on my shelf).

Ah, yes, i should have clarified this. I view the journalist as a power role, and it will be treated like that. It is possible to have multiple journalists if there is one among the hidden roles, or student/amnesiac decide to pick journalist as their target. Mason recruits on journalists will fail, just like every other town power role.

I don't think he's referring to Mafia Jargon, just using it in the normal context - just hanging around, loitering

In the context of forum mafia:

If you don't post in a day, or post so little in terms of contribution (i.e. you just say hello or something entirely random and unhelpful) you are in fact lurking. If you do not contribute to the day chat, I classify that as lurking. If you post even one credible statement you should not be classified as a lurker. How much someone posts is entirely up to them.

I just have too many questions that don't come all at once. Will the "one-winged angel" be able to use the double kill multiple times if the game goes on that long? If so, will the two kills count for the next double kill?

I'm pretty sure the answers are in this order: Yes then No

Edit: I got another two questions. If a journalist asks for an article from a player who is jailed, will the inquiry go through? (I'm asking if the jailer's complete roleblock is fullly complete)

Will this be like in FM5 when if a player falsely claims a COM identity, will you intervene? (this was one of Elixir's rules afaik)

You're correct. After using the Black Materia's powers, Sephiroth will have to recharge it with standard kills. As soon as he reach 4, he will be able to use the Black Materia again. This process may be repeated limitless times.

Edit: I got another two questions. If a journalist asks for an article from a player who is jailed, will the inquiry go through? (I'm asking if the jailer's complete roleblock is fullly complete)

He will be able to answer even when jailed.

As with the previous FM, we will intervene only if you false claim in NIGHT chats. You are free to claim whatever you want in day chats.

Raiden
October 16th, 2011, 09:00 AM
Final word about names and identities:

We will use 36 new accounts and 36 new randomly generated names.
Players will be able to choose whether to reveal their COM identity or not. If you choose to reveal:

Doing this at day causes no harm. You can lie freely.
Doing this at night requires you to tell the truth. You can NOT lie about your identity at night. If we find you lying at night, we will step in and reveal you. Jail chat (if present) is an exception to this rule.

Changing your name, for any reason, is forbidden.
You will not be able to use your original COM account to play the game. Sorry about this, but we don't want any confirmed identity during the day.

Well, I'm not exactly an experienced player, as I've only played the game a couple of times. Whenever I was in an important role, people were getting mad because I didn't know the commands.

It says in the opening comment that some roles may or may not have special names. If they do have special names, it's a big advantage to Town, finding there PR's while also finding the liars. To counter this, I would like to suggest that the Mafia's know the special names of certain roles, giving them the opportunity to claim a role other then citizen or neutral, while not immediately getting caught.

Playing FF won't solve all issues :P It's all up to interpretation - if the Bus Driver got renamed to Chocobo Breeder, even if I was aware that it's name had changed how would I guess that? I might think 'Chocobo Trainer' or even 'Train Conductor'.

If special names are given then they definitely need to be declared along with the role they represent, even for the roles that can only possibly come up as randoms (we understand that giving a special name and flavour to a role doesn't automatically mean you've included one in the game xD).

Orange mafia seems to have significantly less power then red because they have no invurerable people. Perhaps a random orange mafia member should have a 1 time auto vest? Or a global one for the entire mafia for a single night time kill.

Heres my suggestion I made on joshua to balance mafias without GF's on each side.

- Journalist sends his action at day, then he visits the target at the very beginning of the night. Witching and driving the journalist have no effect. Roleblocking, Jailing and Killing the journalist will prevent the interview from being published.

- Yuffie does not kill masons, she's a good lass after all.

Revealing RP names is forbidden, as they are part of a mod PM. Implicitly, quoting mod PMs is forbidden. We will post a full set of rules as soon as the game starts.

We will also post all possible role cards without their rp names, unless they are already revealed in the base setup.

Note: all the rp names are UNIQUE. There are no two Aeris, even if there may be two doctors.

Can the Godfather (when he knows his team member is culted)

go

-Kill (Team Member`s Name)

if so, can he do

-Kill (Team Member's Name)
-Send(Team Member who is getting killed)

All mafia can decide to use any action, including killing, on their own members if they so wish. As this would be a very stupid move under normal circumstances, misuse and abuse of it will be considered griefing and will get you removed from the game.

The GF cannot, however, send a teammate to kill himself. He can either: 1. send GF to kill culted teammate or 2. send different teammate to kill culted teammate.

Should it happen that there are a mafioso and let's say a consigliere, one of which is culted, and they decide to kill each other, the role having Kill as primary command will be favored. If neither of the two has killing as a primary ability, random.org will decide what happens.

Ability use counts? Possible drug affects? Jester sucide type, random guility, hammer vote, influence on neutrals....? Will survivor get a different set of abilities like the soul of beast in the last forum mafia, or just the standard vests? Or nothing at all?

Do you plan do to any extra stuff in this forum mafia like secondary goals in the last? I sincerely think consig is quite lacking in large mafia setups such as forum mafia, do you plan to give him extra utility by allowing him to use any investigation type, or something?

Grave Robber will be able to steal up to 4 corpses, which will grant a one use ability depending on their role. He will be able to use that ability during any of the following nights, but he won't be able to steal and use an ability at the same time. Coroner and Grave Robber targeting the same corpse will result in the Grave Robber being blocked. Both roles will be informed of this outcome.

Escorts and Consorts will not be immune to roleblocks.

The order of actions will be posted tomorrow, shortly before the start of the game.

Survivor will not get a different ability set.

We will feature secondary objectives.

Consigliere is a very powerful asset, you will have to trust me on that. Read through FM2 for more info.

All of your questions about other roles will be answered inside their respective role cards.
