I’m currently trying to develop mafia setups with high strategic possibilities for all members in the game and would like to share some of them with you. If you have any setups you’d like to talk about feel free to add them to this thread!
This setup is my attempt to base a setup on the spy and janitor:

Godfather [Immune to Detection / Kills without Mafioso]
Consigliere [Replaces Godfather]
Janitor

Spy [Sees Mafia Chat / Sees Mafia Target / Sees Mason Chat]
Mason
Mason
Doctor
Investigator
Sheriff [Detects Mafia / Detects Serial Killer / Does NOT detect Arsonist]
Escort
Vigilante [2 Shots]

Jester [Kills when lynched]
Arsonist
Serial Killer [Immune at night]

[b]
Mafia Strategy:
The mafia in this setup is designed around the Consig/Janitor combo, in fact it is somewhat required for role claiming as there are no random roles. However, the difficulty comes from dealing with the spy as the consig cannot reveal the roles that the Janitor has taken out easily, making role-claiming more complicated. More advanced strategies come from attempting to deceive the spy suggesting that “if the town attempts to lynch you, claim to be _____” when that role is still in the game. If that player is then suspected the spy may speak out and get that person lynched (and you can follow up by eliminating the now-revealed spy).

Town Strategy:
The Spy is one of the most crucial roles in this setup as it can easily spell out who the mafia is as the mafia has very little options whilst the spy is still in the game. Hence a well played spy is critical to the success of the game. The Spy can also complement the Masons incredibly well. The investigator becomes more crucial to the town as the game goes on, as he and the consig are the only roles that can detect the arsonist, but there is a chance that the consig will be tied up trying to gather potential outs for the mafia. Additionally, the investigator is the only one who can suspect the Godfather successfully (As he can only be GF or Jester making him relatively high priority for the vigilante). The Sheriff is slightly less valuable in this setup as there are only 3 roles he can detect successfully. The Escort is extremely valuable; if they manage to block ANY of the evil roles it will be significantly beneficial to the town. Finally the vigilante has to be very careful once the spy is gone as the mafia has a significant amount of believable lies available and seeing through them will only be possible for the best vigilantes.

Jester Strategy:
The Jester’s role in this setup actually greatly helps the mafia due to taking someone with them, the town will be slightly more wary when it actually comes to lynching people. To that end, with the Janitor in play the Jester has the ability to (attempt to) claim a detecting power-role and get himself lynched.

Arsonist Strategy:
With the arsonist being immune to the sheriff he is significantly more powerful, his greatest threat being the investigator (as the consig is likely to be collecting roles for mafia to impersonate) and thus being his primary target. Apart from that the arsonist is likely to be harassment-free for at least the first couple of nights and hence is a good power balancer in this setup.

Serial Killer Strategy:
Unlike the arsonist the Serial Killer’s biggest threat is the Sheriff in this setup as he can easily claim doctor (especially with a Janitor in the mix), this is likely to leave him very vulnerable to mafia (which is why he is immune at night). This should generally work out rather well until the consig claims Investigator to get him killed.

Limitations:
Does not to tend to do very well in Public Games due to level of strategy required (this also demands longer days and nights in order to fully flesh out the depth). Additionally public players tend to complain and repick hosts when Masons are in the game.

Serial Killer AND Arsonist, when the SK is invulnerable at night?
That's rather overpowered.
I usually use 1 Arsonist and two Random Neutrals, although 1 Arson 1 Jester 1 Random Neutral also works well.
Oh, and I always turn off Godfather and Serial Killer invulnerability, as that makes the Vigilante ever more useless, and the SK\Godfather ever more overpowered.

Your Mafia setup is very nice, I like it. I usually go Godfather and 2 Random Mafias, but you setup works just as well.

2 masons is rather underpowered and... Well, pretty bad. When you think about it, the chances for BOTH of them to survive long enough to get any interesting clues is really slim.

Overall, it's interesting. The problem is that sometimes, people want to use their own strategies, and not the same strategy decided by the host every time. The other problem with this setup is randomies, especially newbies, who have no idea what the hell they're supposed to be doing, or don't quite realize the potential power of their role(e.g. Consigliere who doesn't work with the Janitor or Spy who leaves the game due to him receiving a 'useless role'). Nice job thinking of all of this though. :)

There is a 3rd mason...he's called the spy lol.

But yeah I have a set-up similar to this and I have to agree with the above, an invulnerable SK is kind of ridiculous. SK killing blockers is enough imo.

Just providing some justification for the only 2 masons:

Again, I understand this setup is extremely spy centralised (That was the intention anyway although it can make it particularly awful if the spy is killed first night) but the spy is intended to work as a pseudo mason as well, with masons being able to reveal themselves to the spy at night and also determine who the spy is (via PMs the next day, or asking the spy to say something obnoxious in chat). These can then PM the sheriff to help pin down the mafia before they gain much momentum - So no I don't particularly see 2 masons as underpowered in this specific setup.

I agree completely with the issues in Public Games.

As for there being both an Arsonist and an SK, this comes down partly to personal preference but the primary issue was needing some killing roles to balance the mafia janitor steamroll. The personal preference part was making them as powerful as they are, this is mostly due to my personal views on finding the roles somewhat comparatively difficult to win with and I'd like for all roles to have a good chance at winning in this setup.

Godfather isn't invulnerable by the way :P

Either way how you choose to use this setup is up to you :)
