View Full Version : Things that drive you insane

What drives you insane when playing Mafia?

I'll start us off:

Vigilantes who blindly shoot first night and take out important town roles more often than not.

People who join as a group and then force a host repick rather than making their own damn game and waiting for it to fill up like I do.

Chain leavers. 1 person leaving at the start of a game isn't going to ruin the game. 4 other people leaving because 1 person left? Thanks for wasting everyone else's time.

People who scream for specific roles to be added and then leave if they don't get exactly what they want. Sure you might want there to be a spy in the game. Spy is an awesome role, but personally I think a random town turned spy is far more valuable than the mafia knowing 100% there is a spy. Same goes for a lot of the other roles.

Yeah I know a lot of you are going to say join the mafia channel and play with those guys, but I think thanks to my time zone (New Zealand) I haven't had any success with that yet >.<

People who cheat, A.K.A people who can communicate out of the game and spoil roles and stuff via skype, irl etc etc.. I mean really whats fun bout that.. Also when someone lags, and theres dead sheriff who investigated a target at night, but at same night dead, then sheriff can still say that guy is guilty, happen to me last game,my mafia member died, lucky enough i still won.

Then yeah chain leavers like you said..

the blindly shoot vigi aint that bad i mean like, theres odds of getting serial killer or any other bad guy aswell .. if im vigi, i usually dont kill at first night (unless some guy really pisses me off and i know who he is in the game, some guy even named himself zilasisdowns .. xD

other then that i only kill suspicious people.... Or justin bieber.

Oh yeah, when people lag the game and the dead people give away vital information. That pisses me off so much, you missed your chance buddy keep your mouth shut and stop ruining the game for the rest of us.

For me, most annoying crap is people cheating with third party communication tools like Skype or TeamSpeak. Hands down. Games are totally ruined this way, and it generates all lot of hate, insults everywhere etc.

Serial leavers are pretty annoying, but I can deal with it. Just a few minutes lost here and there in the end.
Protip for when you host: use Saved Slot QUICKLY, show the important options, and ask people if they want particular changes. That's friggin fast and works almost all the time for me. People will be thankfull, and game starts in good conditions.

Membrax, sadly that pro-tip of yours won't work in most random games, because most players insist on DR's choice, which is stupid (not because of DR, don't get me wrong, but they also want most roles altered, day and nighttime shortened, pm and night sequence off, etc, so not much left of DR's choice)

But yes, Chain leaver's (especially in the first 2 seconds) are quite a nuisance, as well as those who use voiced communication to their advantage.
For my part, I'm a little bit annoyed by those people insulting each other for no reason, must be the education my parents used on me (not very effective!).

I never saw someone 'insist on DR's choice', but I ALWAYS see people who cry about 2 minute long days, 1 minute long nights and night sequence being 'too long'. One time people actually left my game due to that.

This is not my host experience at all, and I've hosted quite a few games ;)

Most of the time, people are pretty happy to see someone be very quick to set the game up and open-minded enough to consider particular requests.

When I vote innocent on a totally random lynch and it happens to be a bad guy, then I'm marked for next lynch because I voted innocent.

-AFKers. AFK in a role like godfather often means the game is ruined.
-Silent sheriffs and investigators. Definitely had sheriffs that lasted until the end and never actually revealed any info.

-Mafia members who vote to lynch other mafia members when it makes no sense. Don't get me wrong, it's often intelligent to vote GUILTY (or abstain) so as to avoid suspicion; hell in one game with 4 mafia (from a random any), we actually had one mafia member pretend to be sheriff, starting by calling out another of the mafia. BUT I've had cases where there were not enough votes to actually start a trial and the timer's ticking down 3... 2... and then a Mafia member decides to be the final vote. Just not smart.

-Townies who condemn themselves, i.e. Sheriff Bob calls out someone who's mafia and then a random role, like an escort, says, "No Sheriff Bob is godfather!" Naturally that escort gets vigi'd in the night or lynched the next day.

Oh I really could go on but then it basically just boils down to stupid people.

This one bugs me a lot. At the very least, put your results in LAST WILL ! I'd go as far as say than most lost town games are mainly due to that. Obviously you won't find a baddie every night, but without any info, other power roles like escort or vigi cannot be of any use, except random crap.

/agree ;D
