i am an expert detective and i can solve this in just a few guesses:
a) the youngster sold the gun to the criminal
b) the youngster was examining the gun
c) the professional criminal had planned all of this to frame the youngster. before the date of the murder, the professional criminal got the youngster's fingerprints and copied it onto the gun. therefore, everyone will suspect it is the youngster
