View Full Version : Vote Counter

oops_ur_dead
October 28th, 2012, 04:21 PM
I've added a work-in-progress vote counter up for counting FM votes. To the left of "Thread Tools" you'll see a Vote Count link, which will count up all the votes in the thread and tally them up, with links for each name that will jump to the post where the vote was made. Votes that are in tags are counted, just put the name between the tags (example: oops_ur_dead). Votes for yourself will not be tallied. Unvoting is done by posting . This is what it will look like:
oops_ur_dead

There are a couple of limitations and rules to this system so far, though:
1) Exact names must be used. I won't be "fixing" this because it is partially by design, so that grouping votes to count them can work.
2) It can't tell when days/nights end in M-FMs and S-FMs, so the vote tally for those also counts all the previous days. To remedy this, M-FMs and S-FMs will need to be split up by day, something I'll be allowing from now on
3) Kind of building on 1), if you vote for a user who doesn't exist, the vote will not be counted. This is by design.

Some additional features:
1) Hosts can specify number of votes needed to lynch with the tag, like this: 10. Doing so will show L-whatever counters in the vote count, as well as make the thread automatically close when a player reaches the required vote count.
2) A host can set who the mayor is, with the vote count automatically reflecting it. Just use the tag, as follows: [mayor]1,3, where the first number is the userid of the mayor and the second value is the number of votes the mayor gets. For example, in this thread, I've set myself to be the mayor. Just remember to only add the tag AFTER the mayor reveals, because otherwise the mayor will get additional votes before they reveal, and other players will be able to find out who the mayor is by quoting your post.
3) Type [vote]skip to vote to skip the day.
4) The OP can specify the vote count to reset in a specific post by wrapping any text in the post in tags. This will make the counter only count the votes after that post (or after the last reset post, if the host has reset the count multiple times).
See http://www.sc2mafia.com/forum/showthread.php/14617-Demonstration-Test-Vote-Counter-Features for a demonstration of some of these features.

Right, so I've made a couple changes:
1) The script would mess up a bit if you ordered votes a certain way. For example, if a post contained an unvote before a vote, the vote wouldn't be counted. I've fixed that so that votes are now always counted in chronological order, even if the post contains multiple votes/unvotes.
2) The OP can now change mayor and L settings in any post, not just in the first post. The settings will be taken from the last post chronologically.

How do we find out ids?

If you hide a vote tag inside a mayor tag you can ninja vote/unvote! WOOOO! NINJA BALLOT!

I fixed this now. If you improperly format a mayor tag, it'll display the text/whatever inside the mayor tag instead.

How do we find out ids?

Look at the URL of a user's profile page:
http://www.sc2mafia.com/forum/member.php/6639-MoDTassadar
In this case, the user ID would be 6639.

Could there possibly be a way to have it so that you set who the mayor is in a random posts, but the text is invisible, the whoever the mayor is could have a reveal tag that would only work for the person specified in the post.

So that other people wouldn't be able to tell who the mayor is before revealing, they could put it in a quote, and since quotes within quotes don't work, no one but you and the mayor would know who the mayor is.

Ofcourse, you would have to enable it so that the quoting of that command would work, as I have noticed that commands in quotes don't work.

There would be other ways to get the post's original code.

Preset someone within a thread to be eligible to use the mayor reveal code and disallow the ability to other users?

Preset someone within a thread to be eligible to use the mayor reveal code and disallow the ability to other users?

The prevailing issue is how would I make it so that the OP can set who the mayor is without the other players finding out?

Oops, not everyone on this forums foresees the possible exploits they want introduced as you and I do. You are doing a good job turning them down.

Just allow Mayor to reveal, and Host to reset who Mayor is after that?

But how could I possibly allow the host to preset who the mayor is?

I have no clue how you programmed this thing so I'm gonna bounce an idea off of you that I don't even know if it's possible.

Can you set up the God Father to lock a thread at a specific time? like when day would end for example?

Yes and no. The script only runs when someone views the thread. The best I can do is have the thread lock the first time the thread is viewed after a certain time.

I think that would do just fine... since they would be prevented from posting.
