Was watching old mate TotalBuiscuit over here talking about HMnM6 and it looks really interesting... I've never played a might and magic game before.

WTF is Heroes of Might and Magic 6? (beta) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gxejyj4My-8#ws)

Anyone picking this up when this comes out/ have something to share about the Heroes franchise?

Played the majority of the heroes franchise myself. I could tell you all the basics in general of the heros franchise if you want to know I guess.....

Pre-ordered on steam as soon as it was available for pre-order,
found funny bug in beta
you know the island in middle of the map with 3 teleports? when i completely captured all the areas i went to that island, but AI didn't want to come on so i tried to attack the castle, but game didn't let me (thats the bug), so i just placed 3 overpowered heroes next to it, and every day AI kept reviving same hero and suiciding him into my army.

I've basically been playing the Heroes series since forever. Played each and every single one.

Heroes 3 is a bit like the gold standard for old school turn based strategy games. Me and my brother still hotseat it after all this time. Although there are major balance issues and the game is somewhat annoying in that the contact between players comes down to one climatic battle after each of you has twinked out. Depends a bit on the map though.

Heroes 4 was terribad.

Heroes 5 was actually good but the pacing is a little slowed down, making it not as good for multiplayer.

Heroes 6 has potential but honestly... I personally am sick after playing this game type for a decade plus.

The Age of Wonders series is great if you are looking for turn based strategy games on steam. It is really confusing at first but has so many options. A bit of random damage in combat but the battles are still awesome. There are also a lot more of them. A lot of small skirmishes and seiges rather than the 1 climatic battle that is typical of a Heroes game.

Well I'm a fan of long strategy games like total war, and tactics games like advance wars/ff tactics and this seems to blend the two kinda awesomely.

For someone who hasn't played it for over a decade, and what you see of 6, is it worth getting? Or should I go back and get an older version.

I'm currently playing in the beta. Theres quite a few bugs right now but they should be fixxed before the release. Animations are pretty damn awesome. Just wait intill you see a pit lord get lucky..... Elixir there is absolutely no reason to get the previous games over this one. The only complaint about this game really appears to be the lack of town screens, like the epic one back in heroes 5. Now this isn't a gameplay issue, it is perfectly fine not to have them. But alot people are complaining quite a bit over it.
heroes 5 town screen:
Heroes of Might and Magic 5 Fortress Town Music (HD Animation) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Eh22nIFZQU#)

heroes 6 town screen: http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/5861060878/m/7461096729
3rd post down.

Now for actually game play problems. The only one appears to be that the gameplay is slow as hell. Not alot they can do to fix this. Theres also the story. Hero's stories usually arent that interesting, guess we have to wait and see on this one.

All the races seem to have a common theme that all of their units fall under. No unit seems out of place in any way shape or form. It should provide some interesting game play in the future. There will also be bosses in the storyline. Should prove quite interesting, they haven't really done a boss before. Also lovin the lich "Makeover". No more fatasses in dresses.

lol, cant tell if serious?! go settings, find hero/unit movement speed slide it to the right side (max), again go settings, find and click on quick combat box to enable it, enjoy instant fights. dont blame game for your lack of intelligence, kthx.

I wasn't refering to slow movement, I was refering to SLOW gameplay. It takes a LONG time to finish a single match regardless of what you set speeds to. A single match can take 3 hours.

@AscendedOne

So how is the character building system? In HeroesV I wanted to smash my monitor several times when the game simply refused to give me the skill I want. You really can't take a game like that seriously.

I'd never heard of it before, but it looks kinda interesting. Is it turned-based stratagy?

What's your problem with steam? Unless your internet regularly disappears, there shouldn't be a problem if you are able to post here. Yes, you can force most games to not update.

No, it doesn't require steam.

Monster as far as your question goes. It's completely YOUR choice. You will NEVER have a problem getting a skill you want. The skill building system works in 3 tiers of might and magic abilitys/passives. All spells are gained through using a skill point on leveling up, no more magic guilds. Might heroes can go up to the third tier in might magic can go up to the third tier in magic. You may access the second tier apon reaching lvl 5, the 3rd by reaching lvl 15. Certain factions of heroes are limited to 5 certain spell types. Like sanctuary is limited to light water earth prime(think arcane) and another I dont remember.

Watch the vid I linked in the original post. It went through the hero building quite nicely at some point.

Such a buggy platform that, at least I find, crashes more often than any other program Ive ever used, including pirated versions of Adobe Premiere. I wouldn't even have it installed if it wasn't a requirement for L4D2

Well I ended up ordering it and getting a beta key for phase 2 which apparently starts August 17, so if your account still works cross phases Ascended we should do it up.

Addtionally monster each hero has access to 5 magic schools, and I believe about 6-7 might schools. The might schools are the same for all. The magic schools are limited based on faction.

I really hope games aren't six hours long as well.
My game with Rev took us two days. His parents complain to him like he's a six year old looking at porn all the time.

Yes, I actually bought it. It is good, I think even better than h5. Fractions are actually different to play and the free skill tree is really useful. Of course there are skills you have to pick (Healing, Enlightment), but else you can pick what fits your play style. There aren't OP heroes like Wyngaal (I think) and it is very balanced overall. Also, the story isn't as boring as in H5. You should get it.

5 wasn't so great. 3 or 4 were better, forget which though. Would 6 be on par with them?

3 was better, 4 sucked. It isn't as good as H3 (yet), but it is pretty close and will get even better with the expansions.
